Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

If and when Gaff plays AFL again, he will be a marked man. Players and Coaches now know that he has a breaking point.

Like Jim O’dea 46 years ago this will not be forgotten. What Tom Bugg did was bad, but nowhere near as bad as what happened yesterday.

Gaff knew exactly where his fist was going to land.

He may need a new career

Gaff was a marked man yesterday after the hit and he took it all on the chin and still walked off the ground with his head down.

How can Adam Simpson come out and say he’s not sure that was an intentional hit?

David King interviewed Gaff in the rooms and asked if it was a brain fade or an accident. Gaff didn’t make any excuses in reply, said he will be dealt with during the week.

What is the umpire signalling in the video? Surely not play on. Has he got tunnel vision?

Lots of talk about criminal charges for Gaff. It reinforces to me we can all have a moment of madness and what the consequences could be if you do.

To this point, after the game yesterday on the 2nd deck of the Southern Stand there were 2 Melbourne supporters involved in a push and shove and throwing verbal abuse at each other. They would have been in their 50’s.

Not sure how it started but you’d think they would both be asking themselves later how did they get into that situation?  How could they make such fools of themselves?  What if things had gotten out of hand?

There’s a few ‘moments of madness’ that I’ve been involved in that I’m not proud of, but luckily no lasting impact on anyone else.

Passion, emotion, excitement, bravado and a whole bunch of other human foibles can result in situations that we regret and wish we could take back.

It wasn't Gaff that took it on the chin. Many posters here are almost condoning Gaff's thuggery. My real symphathy goes to the entire Brayshaw family. Hope this incident doesn't stop Angus from showing us his real talent.

Why would Angus be affected or do you mean Andrew?

I'm not saying what Gaff did isn't serious or he should get off. I'm just not prepared to call someone who has been a nice level headed guy for his entire career a thug or question his character because of a brain snap. It's how he reacts to this and by all accounts so far you see the remorse.

I also share symphathy for the Brayshaw family.

I am sure Brayshaw felt a lot worse

I don't think Brayshaw and Gaff shared the same emotions.

I don't think AFL teams are going to go after Gaff who only has ever snapped once in 200 games. Nor by the time he plays again anyone will remember/care.

I think you are wrong. Players will remember and they will care. Many a tagging job has been given out, and Gaff cracked in a big way.

The next Derby will be very heavy if Gaff lines up for Meth Coke

That's fine, but what happens when Gaff doesn't react like he has done every other game of his career. Waste of time and energy.

He doesn’t have to react. The verbals will remind him

He doesn’t have to lash out again. Footsteps from behind could well play on his mind

I got king hit once on the footy field in my short career.  Suffered a broken nose and a cracked wrist when I fell. The culprit later apologised and we got on fine after that. Everyone’s different but who knows how this will pan out.

I don't know if it's been mentioned earlier in this thread but in my opinion it's pretty clear that the swinging arm was directed at Brayshaws chest but right at that moment when Gaff started the swing, Brayshaw dipped enough that he weared it flush in the mouth. I expect this to be argued in his defence.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the knuckle on the index finger that did the damage either as the fist would've struck more from that side of the hand.

one of the options discussed a week or so ago is that the penalty includes at least one week against the team whom the incident happened against.

i.e 6 weeks and a week when the Derby rolls around again.

Doubt there will be a defence. With Gaff's record and the past incident being similar in weeks he will plead guilty and apologise and take 6-7 weeks. I agreed with Bartel and Lloyd, i don't think the AFL would want him to potentially play in a GF after this incident so 8 weeks down to 7 with a good record is my guess.

I am sure they didn’t.

Brayshaw will recover in time, but he will know the inside of a dental surgery intimately.

Gaff will be haunted and reminded of what he did, in his own mind and by others regularly

Not a defence as such but a view that he didn't mean to knock his teeth out should be put forward.

So, given all of that, do we still want him?

He's an elite footballer.

We're in the business of winning premierships.

He will help that cause.

I still want him.

The fact that he ran away from Brayshaw after the hit, won’t look good in any hearing.

You think he missed, i don’t

So I guess a couple of questions remain unanswered which are of more interest to us:

1. Has Gaffs price tag just gone down?

2. Will the club keep pursuing him considering the image it will have on the club?

I still want him.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
