Man I wish I could be as calm as you.

The really frustrating thing for me was this was a chance to make a real stand.

We did nothing but.

I know its early days but I cant help be concerned if not angry.

i tell myself its just a game but a flag or a flag like team wouldn't hurt. Today points to no flag this year despite the hype. Maybe therein lies the problem. We were favorites and I think this team can drink its own bath water. Many supporters have........especially me.

Tigers game will determine our season.

My wife would argue I'm not calm at all.  I can go from jubilation to downright anger in a matter of seconds when the game is on.

I just feel as though going over the top, making outlandish statements etc. is a waste of time.  The game is done and dusted so I'll look ahead.  It puts my mind at ease at any rate.

And yes, the Tigers game will go someway to defining where our season is headed.  We'll be serious underdogs but we generally match up against Richmond quite well.  Our response will be very intriguing.

So you know how I keep pointing out how we play like little kids, and everyone always tries to win the ball instead of one person getting the ball while the others create room for them, and how we get torn apart when we bomb the ball to the hot spot, and how in marking contests everyone tries to mark the ball and nobody stays down for the crumb?

All of that.  Again.  Can we admit that there's a problem with the coaching panel now?

What an absolute disgrace. I left half way through last quarter and sulked on the train to Belgrave. Bugg, Harmes and Lewis have to go and Melksham as well. As soon as the ball got greasy our lack of skills showed. I am trying to think when was the last time we played as poor as that.

I thought these days were over. after 1/4 time it was terrible and sitting there at that game, during the final quarter it was boring.

We should have been further in front in that first quarter. But once the rain came we didn't seem to cope. The hawks tightened up on us afterwards and we just couldn't get free.

Once again easy goals were missed and our backline just leaked. The busiest man in the next 9 days has to be Troy Chaplin. When roos came in the first thing he wanted to fix was our defense. It seemed to be fixed but this season it has been leaking goals like anything.

Jones did a great job on mitchell and nice to see Angus back but no one else really helped out in the midfield.

I look forward to see how we respond against the premiers.

That loss against Collingwood in the final  round last year had nothing to do with our mental application ,Collingwood are simply better than us, so are Geelong, even with out Danger, and Hawthorn.

We have done nothing to prove we are a good side, beside beat mediocre teams.

Our coach is as wooden as they come, and for some reason ditched our backline coach in Rawlings, for a rookie in Chaplin.

Really? So you think Goodwin told them not to lay a tackle in the first 15mins of the Coll game? It was 100% mental application. You are so wide of the mark it ain't funny/

This is the big one for me.  I won't go over the top with it like your last line, but the above needs to be addressed by the club.

Goodwin said in his press conference this evening that we need to get back to playing to our 'strengths' and that today we didn't play our sort of football.  That's all well and good, but what you mentioned above has happened in pretty much every game we've played in this season.  We have 6-7 repeat entries for maybe 1 goal, then they'll run it off half back and score.  It's hard to watch and must be deflating for the players.

Something needs to be done about this as we won't get anywhere near finals if this continues.

WB .. it is so obviously the game plan ...we press too high and when it comes out bingo .. off to the races

And as one astute poster pointed out on the game thread the affect of pressing so high is that we crowd our own forward line making it harder for us to score

So.   Yes we are all incredibly disappointed about today.  Sh..s me to tears.    But WE ARE MELBOURNE.  Neve forget.    Sometimes the darkest hour is right before the dawn.  Just please make Anzac eve the real dawn !!!!   Love this club.  Always will

There's no team absolutely flying at the moment. In the first 6-8 rounds it's all about getting wins to setup the rest of the season and top 4 or 8 finishes. The worst thing to me is we should be 4-0 or at the worst 3-1. We have already [censored] away one win and really need to in 4 or the next 5 to set things up post-bye.

The main issues I see are the defensive press is way too high - if we are going to press that high there has to be an anchor 20 metres goal side of the last opposition player; not having a second tall in the forward line - either Pedo or Weid will do the job; and we are too slow leg speed wise. Hunt must come back in next week. We were 2-3 last year and recovered well enough. Beat the Tigers and 3-2 could easily be 7-2 or 6-3.

Tthe tigers have lost those cheap stripes. And are a real carnivore's these days.

They will gladly harass our arzes in next weeks game, so we had better be ready for it.  Because they are a real pressure side nowadays.

We have to match and supersede the pressure they bring.

This is what we did not do today to the hawks.  we did not continue with relent-less pressure on the Hawks ball carrier.

We had to bring the pressure today to the Hawks,,, and be the Hunters.

Instead, today,  we played like gazelles in the spotlight...  ready for the tasting and basting.

Premiers ? FMD twice and slowly!

You may now mark our report card as "Perennial [censored] ups, failures and cellar dwellers"

What a shameful effort that was.

Sorry but I told you so!

I felt for Jones today - given the job on Mitchell and covered him fairly well but was therefore limited from having some impact at times. This meant others were required to step and didn't

What happened to play tight tackling footy in the wet?

They should not have had space and time to score heavily after half time?

Where is the team defence?

And that about sums it up folks.   If you aren't willing to close your opponent down and play close man on man footy when they start winning the ball more than you and getting a run on, then you are doomed to lose more often than not against the better clubs.  You might get away with it against the likes of Norf but not against Geelong, Hawks, Weagles, Swans AND the Tigers (next week!).

The tackle differential was a disgrace today, both in general play and in our forward 50.   Tackles 74 v 113 (-39)  Inside fifty 8 vs 20 (-12).

Lost the war in the middle and at stoppages also on the clearance count.

DE % was horrific at 58% vs Hawks 67%.  Can't believe how fumbly and unclean we were and we refused to try and stretch them on the switch across HB instead just continually kicking down the line or through congestion.  In front of goal abysmal with no structure or method.  Where were the crumbers front and square (other than Hawthorn!!) most of the marking contests!  Why were the Hawks understanding that in the wet the ball is mostly going to be grubbed a little and fall short and made sure they played in front but we continued to play (mostly) from behind??? (Hulk one of the main offenders here).

We are STILL a long way off the top 6 clubs and will need a huge improvement across the board from here, mainly defensively and with clean one touch ball use, if we are to make finals.  One or two quarters of very good footy only is going to result in a whole lot more pain against the top 6.

And lastly what the hec was Goody doing playing Harmes in the ruck for much of the 2nd quarter!  Surely we needed to bring Weid/Pedders in for Melk and at least give Maxy a chop out and try and retain our structure at the contest.   This left us short in the ruck and one mid fielder short at the drop of the ball.

Back to the drawing board Mr Goodwin!

About the only things i got out of today was the return of Gus, the efforts of Kent / Salem / Fritsch (albeit Fritsch was relatively ineffective and out muscled)  and that the jam donuts at the G are still sweeter than anything we dish up against the better rated clubs.

Yep, I mentioned this in one of my earlier posts in this thread as well.  We crowd the forward line to ensure we keep it in there, or we are ready to pick off the quick kick and get it back in there, but as we've seen it leaves us wide open to the slingshot off half back that we are generally powerless to stop.  It needs to be fixed, quickly.

Bugg was awesome last week.

Melkshams selection surprised me.

Garlett frustrates me the most. It seems if he cant score goals hes  interested.

Lewis was on absent .

Jetta a shadow of himself and Lever still struggling.

So Soft and we should have seen it coming after the cancellation of "THE CAMP". The Hawks would have been getting in to us about that and we didn't have any comeback just turned up our toes and let them run all over us. I am expecting to see the players go to the PA  on Monday and ask not to play against Hawthorn ever again as its to tough on them!!!!!!  At least we now know that the secret training session on Thursday  waste of F*#cking time.

The Hawks had two or three player's injured but they still "tore us apart" in the second half. Soft, dumb footballers who have taken over the Football Department. I feel so sorry for PJ and the Admin team that have done such a wonderful job to get the off field side of the club running so well and in a very good position, but sponsors & members aren't going to stay around if you put that sort of performance on. Next week now becomes a true "CRUNCH GAME" for both players and the coaching panel. Its about time the coaches "grow a pair" and [censored] this bunch of soft want- a- be  AFL footballers into line.
