Is Goodwin the right guy....

There is a one word answer to this whole thread, ‘No’. He has lost me. I am considering cancelling my membership until Goodwin is gone!

Good.  I'll buy an extra one next year to make up for it.

Why even post that Wise?

The whole world knows you wont actually buy more memberships to replace all those who choose not to re-sign.

How many extra are you prepared to buy? If its only 1 then your promise will have zero meaningful impact.

If its hundreds, or even thousands i want to nominate you for a life membership with the MFC.

Rawlings may end up as caretaker by end of 2020 if Goody doesn't bring in a tempo possession game/plus a more viable offensive overlap game a la the Cats and scrap this chaos rubbish as the "Melb Way" main game style.

The elephant in the room as well.... fix the dysfunctional forward list over the off season so we can kick more accurately and kick winning scores more often.

Skills need addressing as well (training and list management).  Been well below AFL standard from the opening game and have regressed back to the pre-Roos Neeld era.

Yes. I still believe him in. Have a good pre season get everyone back injury free, not hampered by off season surgery, May will be fit and ready to go. Maybe even make a few assistant coaching moves.

However if we begin 2020 with losses all the media heat will come onto him. Im putting this season away and start afresh next year.

Correct. Sadly most on here think close enough is good enough....

We were far from ready last year and even further away now...

What a clown you are, you thought we were going to have a great year this season based on how we finished last year.

Nobody thinks close enough is good enough but it shows what we can achieve.

Even if this side wins a flag you will never be happy, you'll talk about them failing to go back to back and being happy with achieving something and suffering hangovers, god help any person needing support or trying to get out of a mental mire who bumps into you

There have too many disappointments as a Melbourne supporter to be giving people second chances. The whole club will implode if we don’t win a Premiership very soon!

Clown i am not. As soon as Goodwin said the PF was not the Melbourne brand i was worried. Very worried....

I was right.

If my posts bother you so much hit ignore.

Changes I want to see are in the Assistant role with some fresh ideas and plenty of experience

Mcartney, Matthews, Plapp, Chaplin, Rooke all replaced. The final makeup looking something like

Alan Richardson in as Senior Assistant

Rawlings as defensive coach

Ratten/Knights as midfield coach

Lewis as stoppage coach

Tudor as forward coach

That would be a dream coaching panel!   Not sure Mahoney and Goodwin are up for it tho.

How nice would it be to have people who excelled in the roles you have assigned to them rather than our line coaches with little experience in what they do.

The most glaring weakness is that not one of our coaches played as a forward!  In the last 3 years our fwd coaches have been Chaplin, Matthews and now Rawlings - all backmen.  And we wonder why our fwd line breaks down and we can't kick goals.

A new fwd coach has to be at the top of our coaching priorities.

Even Roughie whilst Raw as a coach would be worth a look

Mahoney  is as much part of the problem as Goodwin...as McCartney

We pretty well need a complete clean out. Thats how you excise a cancer btw ;)

I know my view isnt popular.  I couldn't  care less. I would like to see Melbourne  successful.  If its a popularity  event some seek...go invest in the logies.

Our FD is dysfunctional.  Its as plain as day.

LH...i too would like personel who not only knew their jobs but excelled.

On a more positive note, a really good article on May in the Age. He was very honest and open and gave a lot of insight into his background and struggles. He mentioned how Goodwin gave him a slap then supported him every step on his way to recovery  by joining him in all the extra training sessions. It gave me new found respect for them both.

I think this , for me, highlights the difference  between  my thinking  of Goodwin  and that of many others.

Simon is obviously  very good in areas of coaching.  He seems to have an empathy for the players and they him.

I just dont rate him as a particularly  good Senior coach, esp for us.

He makes a better foreman than he does a builder.Nothing wrong with beinf a foreman at all.  A good build needs a good foreman.

A good build also needs someone who has a good plan.

One of the biggest topics missed in this discussion on our decline is relation to the new rules is the afl wanted less congestion.

Well thats what we were good at last year. Congestion stoppages and clearness.

Guess what 666 has less of... stoppages. So our best players Gawn, Clarry and Brayshaw have to completely chamge their games and be more running.

Turns out our mids are terrible at it. The game got quicker with less stoppages even though its still contested.

I dont have the numbers from this year to last year but imo that is the reason for our decline in 2019.

Which puts the light directly on Goodwin and co, we will find out if he's any good because we  now have to completely rebuild our style.

Goodwin looked like everything was starting to get to him in his Round 18 Press Conference. Would not be surprised to see a blow up on game day in the next few weeks.

We are the circling story now. Nought and Carlscum have redeemed themselves for now...

Goodwin is the right senior coach for the job.  But he needs better assistants. If you look at Clarkson, he has a clear plan but has the Assistants to develop it with the group.  Normally a coach picks his assistants, which I think Goodwin did, but I think the club needs to find some high quality to replace our current crop.  It made a massive difference at the tigers in one preseason.

One of them needs to be a kicking coach, fix that and a lot of improvement will follow.

Goodwin owns the gameplan which has to rank as the worst or at least the worst executed in the league.

Well whoever sent the team out not knowing that the breeze goes left to right at the end we chose to kick to should be sacked. There, I said it. Unprofessional and the players are too and also just plain dumb. Viney and Lewis twice from the same spot and then Petty 20 out straight in front. No other words but disgraceful.

The umpiring 9-1 and worse than our goal kicking. Great home ground advantage.

If Goodwin wants any chance of seeing out his contract then his number one priority this summer is improving skills.

That’s it, it’s that simple.

I blame fitness, all players have skills, it’s skills after hard running when it comes into question. I blame Misson for all this, our 4th Quarter fade outs all year is evidence of this.

THANKS BUT NO THANKS by George on the Outer

Thanks, but no thanks! In a round where the club was supposed to thank their fans for the support during the year, the Melbourne Football Club chose to do otherwise with a 53 point loss to a team that sat 15th on the ladder.  Don’t give us cheap jumpers that can’t be sold in the Demon shop.  Don’t give us vouchers to shop there, give us something on the field, which is why we come to the football in the first place. It was a disgraceful performance, which started with a disgracefu

SLEEP OUT AT THE MCG by The Oracle

Around about 12 months ago Melbourne and Sydney fought out an epic battle between two top eight teams fighting for the best possible ladder position in the lead up to the finals. The Swans triumphed by 9 points at the MCG after the Demons came back from five goals down at three quarter time. But for its poor kicking for goal, Melbourne might well have won the game and finished in the top four. Who knows what might then have happened for the club in September? A LITTLE RAY OF SUNSHINE by KC from Casey

Two clubs that have been hard hit by injury recently took part in a dour battle under dark clouds and, with intermittent showers falling, it wasn’t a pretty game at Victoria Park on Sunday. Despite all that, the Casey Demons added a little ray of sunshine to their day to get the job done over a "traditional" rival with a 15 point victory over Collingwood VFL that breathed life back into their season. THE RETRO ROUND by George on the Outer

We have seen it all before… Yes, a wonderful idea to showcase what used to be in football.  Big crowds, umpires who knew how to apply the rules and not opinions, high marks, skilful players. But for the Melbourne supporters their retro is what it has been like for the past 10 years. Losing games, end on end, year after year.  Opportunities squandered in front of goal. VFL standard players running around at the MCG. Just more of the same, and the game against Collingwood was no ex

Thanks to Demonlanders for their input into this week’s preview. Ralphius Maximus is short and bittersweet: We'll crack in at the bounce to create a contest, win our share of the ball, butcher the forward movement and get scored on easily from the intercepts. Not that hard to predict. Big Demon says: Unfortunately Collingwood will win because they have a lot more to play for. WHAT, NO BLOOD? by George on the Outer

The feeling when turning up to the MCG on a Saturday night to play a top four side in Richmond, while the Melbourne sits cemented in close proximity to the bottom of the table is like attending the Colosseum in Ancient Roman times. The expectation is that a bloodbath is about to occur. There are 100,000 Richmond members and 50,000 Melbourne members, and despite the fact that it turned out to be a wet night after half-time, a crowd of only 37K bothered to turn up. That should never have happ

A MAN’S ERRAND by KC from Casey

A young and undermanned Casey Demons were sent out on Saturday to the Swinburne Centre in the shadows of the MCG on a man’s errand against a very experienced Richmond VFL combination which is the clear ladder leader and fielded no less than 18 AFL listed players. It was expected to be a rout and the Tigers made easy work of it in the early stages when they held a 26 point lead by quarter time. To their credit however, the Demons weathered the storm and kept their opponents within the range

    THAT’S FOOTBALL by Whispering Jack

As the season rolls on towards the finals and the football world witnesses the aftermath of the sacking of the league’s unsuccessful coaches, it’s almost  inevitable that the spotlight will turn firmly upon the complete and utter failure of season 2019 - the Melbourne Football Club.  For a team that finished in fourth place last year and was heavily touted as a premiership contender, the fall from grace has been dramatic. As things stand, the Demons look certain to finish 13 places down on

THE MOMENT OF TRUTH IS COMING by KC from Casey

At half time in Sunday’s game at Trevor Barker Beach Oval, things weren’t looking too flash for the flailing finals prospects of the Casey Demons. Key forward Sam Weideman had suffered a concussion in his first contest and, with a few exceptions, the team was playing like a rabble rather than a finals contender. The Demons were 23 points in arrears to the Zebras and their season was headed towards oblivion. It was the skipper Mitch White who spurred his team on by word and by deed - he fini

The rusty red of the McDonnell Ranges and the blue skies above them provided the perfect backdrop that summed up everything about the Melbourne Football Club’s 2019 season. It set out the perfect red and blueprint for the club’s horror year.
