Not bad, not terrible. 

Just needed to slot the easy goal and hold a couple he got hands to. 

Searching for the body is a phase young forwards go through. I’d still love to play him down back for a while to get him some simple touches but he also gets that in the ruck. 

He isn’t as natural as we want but he has all the skills to be a good player. Stick with it

I honestly don't think he is more than a third best tall forward. However we would get nothing so might as well keep unless someone else is silly enough to make a decent offer.

The issue is his lack of mobility and he is so one dimensional. Nothing's changed, he has always been this way. If he is not marking it within range he offers little. My concerns have not changed and his season has gone as I expected (I did hope for a lot better after his finals, but this is about right).

If we are pinning our hopes on him we are in trouble. If he becomes an AFL standard player it will be a huge bonus as far as I'm concerned.

I don't understand the negative focus on Weidemann. If I were a forward playing for Melbourne the way it's currently playing I'd spend most of my time cursing the way the ball has come in. You don't reap silk from cows' ears...

The other thing I find interesting is why 'supporters' need to spend so much time denigrating a young player who is obviously dedicated to becoming a good player for the Melbourne Footy club. I still recall how long it took Tom Hawkins to come good. Ditto Darcy Moore, ditto the latest Daniher at Essendon.

Some of you may have read or heard he gets pretty low after becoming acquainted with the negativity displayed by some 'fans'. Fer crissake, get a grip and stop being so pessimistic and negative.

One might make the expectation of accuracy and assured, unhindered goal kicking part of a deep forward's repertoire. He is obviously not doing enough practice or alternatively, the wrong practice deficient of advice and expert mentoring. Goal-kicking is a form of assured reliability for one so nurtured.

I agree with your sentiment regarding the personal nature but there has to be an element of analysing a players ability to play football and the attributes they show. 

One of the issues I have with posts such as yours is that you use a good forward like Tom Hawkins to compare him to. You may be able to mount a case that they have had a comparable first 4 seasons in AFL, but you could easily choose another 10 players with this output that didn't make it.

Daniher kicked 43 goals in his 4th season and Darcy Moore always showed elite athleticism which is a weakness of Weideman, so not really the right comparasions. Because of comparasions that are over the top and out of context like this I feel the need to reply with relevant information. It is a forum after all.

Agree with the relativity of comparisons you make, Watts - but we must be aware of the sentiments as you suggest. Blind faith will drive some as a form of Club loyalty to be displayed; the balance is whether or not such displays are contraindicative of reality that, over time, is wearing thin on many. At the end of the day, we all have faith, expressed in varied outcomes. I'd slip the Weed to the Filth, myself, in a transfer arrangement that would provide us with a surplus to the transaction (such as Marty Hore). Grab a reliable forward elsewhere with the change.

You hit the nail on the head: he started to come good in his fourth season. 43 goals in a side which was always there or nearabouts is hardly great numbers. Darcy Moore's athleticism saw him run around mostly of the early days in the VFL...

As you say, it's a forum. I just like to keep things in perspective...

I'm not talking blind faith - look at his Finals games against Hawthorn and Geelong when he was playing in a confident and efficient side. Also, he looks pretty committed to the Melbourne Football Club by my reckoning. Who you gonna swap him for? Cam Macarthy????

Not one dimensional in my opinion - ready to handball, goal assist, bit of reasonable ruck work.

Not every young KPF can burst onto the scene like David Schwartz, Wayne Carey or Dermott Brereton.  I am happy to see him as a work in progress.
