Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

So with TMac out until rounds 6-8 (at best given no match fitness) it means there is an opportunity for someone to step up into the forward line.

Weideman showed a lot of promise at the end of 2016 but 2017 proved to be difficult for him and was arguably played when he shouldn’t have.

I’ve heard a lot about plenty of other players but I’ve heard next to nothing about Weids. He was a high draft pick and showed some promise in his debut, I hope the coaches are telling him to work his ass off to aim to force himself into the side.

Took the nice guy instead of the mongrel player as per usual. Curnow kicked more goals tonight then probably Weed has in his whole career.

Amazing that a top 10 pick with 3 years on the list isn’t pushing for selection despite injuries and first year players like Fritch can stroll right into seniors.

Yeah Weideman at 9, 4 picks before Curnow was a shocker. You get that one right and we are on our way. You'd just love to know how keen we were before the drink driving thing, which was probably setup by Carlton.

Can you train to improve lateral movement/agility?  Thats his biggest problem for mine.   Not saying he has to be Ablett Jnr, but he seems to only be able to run in sraight lines.

Huh???

Fritsch may be a first year player but don't forget he is older then Weid, medium sized fwd instead of key position too. Weid was drafted injured, and has had an interrupted few years with little injuries too. I'm happy to give Weid another year or two before I'll expect to see him pushing for the 1's.

He’ll get there, just going to take some (more) time. The club knew at the time of drafting him that he would need a few years of development – hopefully we start to see a few more signs this year.

After seeing him at training this preseason he is looking physically more ready.

I'll also point out that on draft night the commentators on Foxtel all agreed that Weideman would be the steal of the draft at No.9 if he could stay injury free. I don't see this as a mistake by our recruiting team. Hindsight picks are a load of BS and an easy shot at recruiting, how did Fyfe go at 20odd etc? ?

Tim Smith.

Has either player had a full pre-season McQueen?  Tim Smith missed I think yes?  How about Weids?  My vague memory tells me he has I think.  Should be better prepared.  I would take Tim every time if he had the pre-season behind him.  Starting to get a tad long in the tooth now though if we have to wait till 2019 for a full pre-season look at Smithy.

Weid was doing agility work today and a bit of ruck work with King and Filipovic

Obviously adding another string as he gets to full fitness

Not worried about him, he will be ok for us. To me his area of improvement needs to be in reading the play.

Has had significant ankle surgery twice already in his career and spent most of this pre-season in rehab.  I wouldn’t be wanting to see him in the seniors for the first half of the year as, I’d rather see him developing and building confidence in the VFL.

Pederson is definitely ahead of him in the pecking order at this stage at any rate.  Weideman need match fitness and a run of good form.

Not concerned... yet.

He's has an operation on his ankle, so has not long started back into Pre-Season work?

He will be at Casey for a while, but by mid-season, It's then time to start with some expectations of this young man.  Not before mid season as he works his new body onto some sort of form.

He is just at the start of filling out his frame, so give him some time.

Latter half of the year, we should be expecting him to take some control at VFL level.

Also, I'm hopeful of Keilty to start some good form by mid season the new breed of young fellas.

The thing I would really like to see/hear, is young King. I'd like to hear of him taking some strides along in the VFL, this year.

Weide will be a great player for us.

He just needs time to grow into his frame, as most big men do.

Be patient, he will excite.

Not every player comes on like a Judd or Daniel Talia, not even Hodge or Mitchell did.   But I would have either of those 2, over Judd.

The fact they've been IN demand at the end of their careers, says a lot really.  about Culture/Leadership.

Weideman  played his best game against Hawthorn.  That was his first senior game late in the season 2016. kicked 2 goal and was involved early in that game. Finished the game off well. He has the potential has time on his side, however he will have to make a move on .  Lets hope he turns it around very soon and showcases ability in 2018.

Weeds - born June 97 - 196cm
Fritsch - born Dec 96 - 186cm

Not really a fair comparison.

Curnow had never kicked more than 2 goals in a game before tonight. So no different to Weeds.

This is a year for Sam to develop a healthy, strong AFL body. Apparently with ankle surgery and a long preseason in rehab and not rushed in to AFL games that has hopefully been achieved. At VFL he has to find consistency with getting to and winning contests. If he's body is right he'll be able to rotate in as back up ruck and that will do him wonders.

Agreed, I am not worried about him at all.  Hes probably still a season away, but wouldn't surprise me if he forced his way into the team in the 2nd half of this season.

His game for Casey vs Box Hill last season was an epic performance.

this

i also think it has to be factored in that he and curnow are very different sorts of players

for us, hogan plays the curnow role

weideman will ideally be able to pinch hit in the ruck as well as be a tall marking option

it would be fab to have curnow, but it'd also be fab to have martin, fyfe, sloane etc. etc - we have to work with what we've got not worry about what we didn't

i'm still convinced weid will be a very good player for us

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
