At least it's now the big toe and his original injuries aren't causing him pain.  It does sound like he's a couple of months away.

As for Satyricon ? (...edit..)

Funnier still, some posters ask him questions as though he's the font of all knowledge when it comes to selection and training standards.  The year Viney won his B&F he didn't have him in his best 22 when it had been plain to anyone who'd seen a few training sessions how well he was going.  Lots of nuffies on here.

I think we have enough forwards to cover for TMac in Hogan, Pederson, Fritsch, Hannan , Garlett, Melksham and Harmes.

Weve also been training for players to play multiple positions so a few of these will also rotate through the midfield, it’s one of the strengths that will make us hard to play against this year.

I agree we have a number of quality mids to cover Viney, not as high quality as Viney, but we should be able to cover for him.

Im more worried if TMac is out long term. As far as I can see the only other player who had played the role of 2nd forward/Ruck well at AFL level on our list is Pedo. It’s a lot of pressure on him and we really desperately need no injuries to him and Hoges. I know smaller forwardlines are in vogue post Richmond 2017 but I’d worry about the pressure on Hoges and Max if TMac and Pedo were gone at the same time.

This is exactly why we have Pedo on the list, for his bulk & experience, and his willingness to do a job for the club, when required.

He's almost our best servant.

We all wanted him resigned last year because of his honesty and we wanted to repay that. We did, and now we need him already.

Seems a contract very worthwhile already.

As good as he is we can cover for him.    Salem may be the surprise packet here now the coaches want to use him as an inside mid.

Anyone with any info on his foot? Could he miss the rest of 2018 if he can’t get it right by round 3 or 4? Hope not I feel 2018 in jeopardy?

Is it worse than we think?

YES :goody:

Short answer:

No.

Long answer:

Noooooooooooooooo.

They are just being cautious after they (Viney, coaching staff, medical staff) rushed him back too soon.  No need to put his season in jeopardy by doing it again.  An almost certain starter for Casey this weekend.

Wise i know its easy for me to say in hindsight and i dont mean to be disrespectful but whoever your source is on this please shoot them!

My source was myself. I'll give myself a jolly good flogging, BBO style, later on for it.

Did these two great players hurt their toes before we "put the lid on it" or when we "took the lid off it", anyone?

If you're remotely familiar with Mike Sheahan you'd know he's as thick as a brick.  And I mean that sincerely.  How he survived in the footy industry as long as he did is one of life's great mysteries.

And it runs in the family.

That’s just not true. Mike is very bright.

And even if he wasn’t why would you be surprised that stupid thrives in the footy media industry? Mark Robinson is the Chief Footy writer for the biggest paper in the country...

My group of friends met today for the first time this season. Only heresay from a physio that Viney's foot is worse than the club are letting on and he is out indefinitely. Only repeating what another stated.

I assume from Canberra you didn't listen to his weekly morning segment on a Monday morning on SEN in 2017 ?  He's an idiot.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
