There's several CBD car parks you can use then either catch a tram up Flinders st or walk to the G.

Yep I get that lots of cars is a security risk. But so is standing outside the stupid overcramped Richmond station because everyone has to tap their dumb Myki to get inside. If they don’t let people flow through the entrance to the station, the security risk is just as great as letting people drive and park near the stadium. I hope this gets rectified going forward.

Agreed. This may sound like it is a good idea at first, but it doesn't appear to have been thought through (why am I not surprised?). The real issue for me is that this will put even more pressure on the mad bottleneck that is the entrance to Richmond station. If this is truly the sporting district, then the station that serves the MCG, Flinders Park and AAMI Park needs to be rebuilt to suit current and future demands. Now it is an old-fashioned crush from Brunton Avenue through the gates and tunnel up onto the platforms, where you can wait for up to 30 minutes or more (easily), especially after a big game like QB or Anzac Eve. These days I am often tempted to walk from the MCG to Flinders Street, only to get a train back to Richmond and beyond, because it is far less hassle than the direct route.

More like bigger vehicles mazer.  Big 4x4's, or larger again, trucks etc.

Lets find the positives in this.

Its now time to build bridge and to get across it.  Across the rail yards to the Tennis Centre, & along to the Richmond Station.

This is where some said a few years back, that they wanted to have a Melbourne Social Club above the Station on the Concourse/Promenade built over the Richmond Rail Yards.

A Concourse/Promenade giving Direct access to the Richmond station, the MCG at entry level above road level,  and to and fro games, or even training if it also crossed Olympic Boulevard overlooking Gosch's.

Time to shut down Moomba, the Grand Final parade, the car park at Flemington or even Punt road most mornings since there are too many cars parked on it.

It's not about bollards and speed it's about cars packed with explosives. Last year they banned motorcycles parking on the concourse outside the members for that reason....

I don't drive to the MCG, and really don't care whether parking is available or not.

But to cite terrorist concerns as the reason behind removing parking is just absurd. Queues to get in and out of Richmond station, to get in and out of the ground itself, and the totally inept and disinterested security staff are far bigger concerns than the car access.

asked a security guard who was frisking me at the members entrance "have you guys ever found anything and what would you do if you did"  No, nothing ever other than contraband drinks. Call the super visor.

I agree. As I said above the queues at Richmond station are the most concerning. I remember after Queens Birthday last year standing in a line for 20 minutes, and Dad (ex- army) and I were both talking about all the possible ways that a terrorist could just about kill the 20,000 people cramped in this spot in under a minute. It's a massive security concern.

I am sure x-ray machines will be next for bag inspections outside. The amount of 'checking' that is done by the security is a joke. I understand it is a time issue, but the safety of patrons is so important. If heaven forbid there is ever an attack at a footy game, the damage to the game and attendance will be irreparable.

i've always suspected this. i've had metal objects in my pockets and it's never found them (unlike airline scanners)

The sensitivity may be set very low on the wands to only detect bigger metallic weapons. Otherwise they’re going to go off for pretty much everyone.

You can also turn the volume off on them and go by the LED indicator bar, which you wouldn’t see being the subject.
