Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

No, it's not.  Someone who is laconic is one who says very little.  A man of few words if you like.

'Laconic' is one of those words that most, including journalists, consistently get wrong.  They (and you) seem to think it means the same as laid-back, low-key or lackadaisical.

of course you are correct ds, but i suspect that not too far in the future laconic will become a recognised synonym for lackadaisical due purely to the pressures of common usage. happens to many english words that take on new meanings

I would be rendered nearly speechless if that occurred Daisy

Jeff is a man of few words

All sorts of good news for those of us going to watch the JLT game in Kingston on Saturday, 20k+ wind and 90% chance of rain from 11 am to 5 pm is the cheery forecast.

Expect a small crowd as there is very limited shelter  from either wind or rain at the twin ovals.

Better select the team most likely to play on a heavy track.

Hunt is the same, but did whole session today

It's because of the cancelled pre season camp. We are screwed. No one would be looking LACONIC if they'd just gone to the camp. We'll finish last this year.

Think he might win a flag before us

Old Bear, on the basis of the respective current lists and experience, it would be quite difficult to objectively argue against Port having a crack at a flag before our much younger boys do. Ken Hinkley is no fool nor a novice coach. Many won't like that view, but that may be because with their one eye, they believe themselves to be all seeing and all knowing and objectivity has no part in it.

That is not to say we can't gazump Port, but rather to suggest that deep into the year, our still immature bodies demonstrably have dropped off very quickly in the last month of the home and away season. Port Adelaide have added a lot of talent with far more mature bodies.

After 55 over years of enjoying VFL/AFL footy, nothing is certain, but some things are more likely than others. Watts may well follow the tradition of Steven Armstrong, Jolly and Chip Frawley to hold the AFL Cup in the year after they leave the Dees. That gives me no joy to say but they are undeniable facts.

I wish Watts no ill will, after all we moved him on and we are still paying a chunk of his salary, but a Port v anyone but us GF would be painful to watch. More so, if they were to win.

As fo the Smiths both with main group now, complimented Misso for his team getting the players back in great shape from rehab, both didn't miss a beat whole session same with Weid

In one of the contested forward drills where the ball was lobbed in high to T Smith and Weid vs Keilty, Hibberd and OMac with smalls running in for the crumbs and snap on goal, Tim took a blinder, chest mark on top of the pack, contender for mark of the season, except it hasn’t started yet! Both Tim and Keilty took a couple of clean marks in packs under pressure. I watched Weid closely and he doesn’t seem to be able to work his way into position in that type of situation, didn’t take a mark, got one defensive fist in from behind and kneeing Hibberd in the head in the process.

They did a number of tackling drills, very entertaining where a player has to pick up a rolling ball and get past the tackler who was instructed on how to wrap the ball carrier up. Very physical stuff. A later drill focused on how not to get wrapped up and we saw a lot of Dusty don’t argues being dished out to ward off the tackler. I think it was Bugg who putJones flat on his back with a straight arm to the chest much to everyone’s amusement. If we tackle with the intent like I saw today in these drills we will break open a lot games.

Re injuries - Harley Balic who is looking much fitter than when I first saw him train seemed to strain something at one stage, got some treatment on upper thigh and retired from the drills to do laps. Nothing serious. Nev running laps, everyone else present was involved in the drills.

I think you will find that”laconic”

is an adjective describing person..speech ..style of writing so quite correct to use it as Saty did...didn’t see the point of raising the issue really ...”nitpicking “ come to mind ??

That is where I was coming from CB now all a contract guarantees is you will be paid nothing else. Too bad if a player actually wants to stay at the club.

I just think this is nonsense, especially coming one of the first here to consign players to the scrap heap and want them pushed out the door.

Watts was moved on because he was seen as a negative influence. "Loyalty" isn't some kind of carte blanche to behave like a dick. You only have to look at how we've treated players like Daniel Cross or Col Garland to see that it goes beyond signatures on bits of paper. Even bringing in in-house players like Fritsch and co. from Casey smack of decisions that are driven by more than just cold calculation.

All I am suggesting is that if either party  wants out the contract means very little.

I wouldn't say "very" little, but apart from that, this is true of pretty well all contracts, especially employment contracts.

Exactly so to say that either part is big on locality in 2018 is stretching the truth.

Taken out of context - see preceding post -  I was referring to having respect for other party's P.O.V./needs, even when there's a contract in place, i.e. being grown-up and reasonable.

The picture you're trying to paint of heartless clubs and merciless players, all stabbing each other in the back on a whim, just doesn't hold up.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
