Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

AFLW: Rd 3 Vs Fremantle in Perth

For all those whinging about umpiring ffs cop on.

Bad kicking cost us that game. The failure to convert in the 1st and the continous long bombs into the forward pocket in the 3rd instead of the dangerzone at the top of the square.

You make your own luck in footy blaming the umpires is a convenient excuse

We only have ourselves to blame. In the first quarter we had 15 inside 50's to their zero.  Our conversion of those i50's was abysmal.

We should have put them away in the first quarter when we had 6 shots at goal for 1.5.  Freo had 6 shots for goal for the whole game and kicked 6.0.  Our final tally of 4.7 isn't good enough.

On the ladder, we are now 2nd, back with the pack on 2 wins and a %age roughly equal to Bulldogs and Lions.

Last year we missed the GF by % after a horror game vs GWS when we kicked 1.9 to their 3.2.

Let's hope the terrible kicking today does not cost a top two spot and a GF berth again.

1. The Umpiring was below average. (Not what cost us the game though)

2. Melbourne cannot kick straight, plenty of goal kicking training needed. (Cost us the game)

3. A few Melbourne players are extremely soft, do not like halving any contest.

4. Congested game will beat us.

Just got home from the match.

1. Kicking goals or lack there of cost us the game.  Ladies didn't allow for the wind when having set shots.  Lots of wasted opportunities.

2. Our ruckman doesn't tap to players but tot he same spot, Free clued on and just started sharking every tap, esp. that blonde free midfielder.

3.Umpiring was shocking and always at the worst time.  They early paid a kicking in danger or head high contact and there was lots with demon's lying ing the ground after the ball departed holding their heads.

4. Overall we were a far better side over the field in terms of skill, but goals is where it counts.

Basically if we kicked straight we would have won, but we didn't.

Otherwise it was a good day out with my kids to see a demon team play live.

Don't believe your own publicity girls. Get that out of the system early and make sure yesterday hurt enough...........

Freo was obviously in for the tough one, but all the same the rule interpretations are bazaar, on pushing, jumping on head, neck holds and staying anywhere near the mark lines...............sometimes closely resembled mud wrestling without the mud....sorry, unkind....

Argh that was so frustrating but you couldn't say we really deserved to win. Would have been handy to steal it though and be a game clear. Luckily the other results went our way so at least we stay with the pack.

The umpiring wasn't great at times but that's never an excuse, especially after missing so many shots at goal. We had to do better against the flood, cut out those repeat kicks to the pocket. Needed to switch more or be more patient for a lead.

Overall the 'Big 4' were a bit lacklustre and couldn't find the same synergy as last week (especially in the second quarter). O'Dea would be ruing that on the full kick near the end, but you can't single out one without looking at everything that went before.

I liked Downie's game again though and thought Humphries did some good things late. McGuire for Freo was amazing (just wish it wasn't against us!).

One positive is that even though we went missing at times, we fought back and stuck with it to the end. Didn't get the result but a lesson in taking your chances never goes astray.

Injuries to Phillips and Hore might make way for some fresh legs - to put a positive spin on it. Can't say I know enough about the other players to guess at replacements. Probably not both of Mifsud and Cordner?

Kara Donnellan the best player by far in this competition. Good to see her creating a name for herself!:D Must have been listening to her former coach!!

And to think she started with the Dees many years ago.

THE POOR HOUSE by Ruby Tuesday

How could they possibly have lost this one?

At quarter time, they held a lead of 1.5.11 to their opponent’s score of nothing. The Dockers had barely gone into attack and certainly not once had they gone inside 50 to the Demons’ 15 entries. It had all of the hallmarks of a rout except for a litany of wasted opportunities that saw Tegan Cunningham as the only goal kicker, scored at the seven-minute mark. It was not only the five behinds but a few other potential goals missed the sticks altogether or failed to make the distance.

The game should have been sewn up, such was Melbourne’s dominance. They were playing like careless millionaires who had no regard for their money and when you take such a course, you need to watch out because you could well end up in the poor house.

So despite Daisy Pearce’s complete dominance (she had 15 disposals by the half time break), the Dees lapsed a couple of times in the second quarter to let the home side in for two goals to hold a slender one point lead at the halfway mark.

Things got worse after the break when Fremantle opened up with another two goals to lead by 13 points less than four minutes into the second half.

Just when we thought it was all over, the Demons hit back hard with goals to Aliesha Newman, Cunningham (who kicked her second) and Karen Paxman. The lead at the last change was a single goal but Melbourne had all of the momentum. Surely they would get up and win to take top spot on the AFLW ladder?

No.

The Dockers kicked the only two goals for the final quarter and the last roll of the dice for the Demons, yielded yet another minor score and poverty for the frustrated Demons who missed out on their quest for top place.

A lot of rough stuff was dished out by Freo in this game and 4 Freo players have been given reprimands http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-02-19/aflw-bans-for-star-blue-crow-and-magpie

Freo targetted us after quarter time to upset our rhythm and it worked.  At the weekend I noticed that Carlton and especially Collingwood also played rough.  They will follow Freo's example and come after us in the coming weeks.  Umpires need to start paying frees for all the head strikes, jumping on top of players on the ground and other acts designed to injure.

But we also need to return fire when roughed up.  We can't continue to 'play nice'.   vs Freo we tried to keep up our fast, skillful game and it didn't work against a fairly constant physical barrage.   They knocked us around then ran off with the ball.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
