Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I sympathise with your sentiments here, but I think if the women’s game is to fulfill its commercial potential (which is growing every day) we do have to face commercial reality: media coverage determines media behaviour i.e. eyeballs, so you will expect traditional media to support traditionally powerful clubs.

I think the exciting thing about this demon women’s side, is that it plays such an attractive game style, comes from a traditional club with a substantial supporter base, it could well develop into a media hit in a similar way to the US Women’s soccer team did when they became about 10 years ago the premium world team and a media star.

We clearly are not the US,  but in the local context we do have the opportunity through the women to be more of a premium brand than we are at the moment. Consistency from the men would certainly help, but I have no confidence that is coming soon.

As I have said in recent posts, as someone who has supported the Demons from boyhood (including sitting in a mezzanine stand as a 12 yo in 1964), I believe I am much more likey to see  (maybe multiple) flags from our women than from our men. They are very classy.

It may also be a very limited window, with North and Geelong coming in next year and another four clubs coming in the year after. They will surely rape our very talented playing list - unfortunately!

Feeling sorry for Carlton Captain Brianna Davey with a confirmed ACL injury in their game vs GWS. “she’s in the best medical hands” according to Carlton football manager Andrew Mackay.

True to form, I’m sure those medicos are looking for a way to pin this on Jesse Hogan to give him weeks.

Have only seen the highlights package, but i must say we played some very skilled  football, so much better than what Ch 7 have dished up

15 goals in 2 weeks

some of these other clubs won’t kick 15 goals for the entire season

Wake up 7

They have been playing well together for years with Darebin Falcons

And there's the thing D2014.  It would be so perfect for the 2 founding teams to be meeting at the business end of the season

Does anyone else feel bemused by the complete lack of respect shown to the Dees and the Dogs in the first 2 years of AFLW.  I am gobsmacked that they are passed over for the big games and as always the League focusses on the so called power clubs who have yet to provide any evidence of competitiveness.

(Fair go to Adelaide and Lions for making the grand final last year by the way) BUT Melbourne and Footscray are the originators of this form of the game.  Surely they should be opening the season at the very least. All this is off topic but it does get my goat!

Couldn't agree with you more. You get the feeling that Dees vs Dogs GF would not be the AFL's preferred outcome.

I reckon a lot of the gripes this year about AFLW are because of all the hype about the Blues vs Pies season opener. The worst game of AFLW between the worst two teams, whose AFL clubs both give the impression of being ho-hum about it.

Yes, we have a good list with one of the best mid-fields (the first year ruck is a beauty BTW).

And yes we seem well coached (nice ball movement patterns when they stick)

But the big thing for me that seems lost on everyone (especially the commentators) is how well prepared physically the team is. To a player they look really fit & healthy and they can run all day. Brilliant conditioning.

A quick comment on the "standard". It's a second year comp being played in non-optimal weather conditions. The standard is already vastly better than last year and improving on the fly. I'd guess it will evolve into it's own spectacle (which I hope is more attacking and rewarding of flare).

Cunningham has certainly caught my attention.  Am I recalling correctly that this is her first season of AFL?  Huge upside.  Height, athleticism and can play footy.

Her marking skill is what stood out for me. She was clunking everything, even the heavily contested stuff. Also like Jacobbson (spelling?) in the last quarter.

Go Dees!

I am more than bemused - I am seriously peeved.  All the AFL love seems to be going to Carlton.

They get the opening marquis game each year and have more FTA telecasts than any other team ie 4 - more than half their season.   And 5 of their 7 games are in the cool of night.

To top it off they have been gifted another marquis game:  The 'Pride' game to be played vs Bulldogs.  Atm it isn't a FTA game but I wouldn't be surprised if that changes in the next few weeks.  You can bet it will be a marquis FTA game on the fixture next year.  To be fair the Bulldogs approached the Blues.  (To me it is a joke Carlton play in the 'Pride' game when they wouldn't even endorse the 'Yes' vote to change marriage laws).

What really irks me is that Carlton have done absolutely nothing to earn those privileges.   These privileges are on top of the equally irksome 6/7 FTA Friday night games their AFL team gets in the men's season.

I'm pleased the Bulldogs get the 'Pride' game but for Carlton to get the best of fixtures is just plain wrong - I mean they don't even have that many members!

Meanwhile we play on Feb 18 in Perth at 3.35 pm, then a 6 day break to play in NT at 5.40pm, then another 6 day break to play at home.  That is 3 games in 13 days in scorching heat, criss crossing the country with 4 long-haul flights!!  Did no-one tell the AFL how hot it is in WA and NT during the day!!  Without checking all the clubs, I reckon we get the wooden spoon of the fixture.  3 games in 13 days could easily bring our season undone.  I sincerely hope not.

As a founding team and having played very well last year we deserve a bit more respect.

...Rant over

Yep that was her second game of footy. While I'm sure we'd all like to see more 'pure' footballers players like her show the benefits of ex-professional cross-coders in these early years.

Others have noticed that Carlton is getting all the love and FTA exposure:

Quite rightly they argue that FTA telecast on Friday nights of Carlton's dour game style sets the tone for media coverage all weekend.  This does not do justice to the very good games that follow.

I'm baffled as to why Carlton get such benefits:  They are not a big club.  They are not successful.  Both their teams play a rubbish brand of football.  Baffling.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
