Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Our skills were excellent today.  Really liked how a player stayed back from the packs to take the exit pass and run forward.

This game boosts our percentage a bit!

We need a few HUGE wins in the next few weeks.  Carlton and Bulldogs are sitting up there with a % of over 200%.  Carlton have almost guaranteed themselves a finals berth by winning big over the lesser teams.  Sure its early days but sometimes big % leads are hard to peg back in a 7 game season.

This is a cut-throat game.  Each week is like sudden death - drop more than one game and no Grand Final.  Have too many close games and no Grand Final.

Only teams 1 and 2 on the ladder after round 7 play off in the Grand Final.  Last year we missed it by %.  We were playing the best footy of the comp so could easily have won had we go there.

Winning isn't enough in AFLW - % is what really counts in this game.

How’s that for a % boost? ?

Great step up in standard, with good skills on display compared to last year.  Eminently "watchable', and the score-line was pretty damn good too!  Go Dees!

Holy crap I just saw Newman’s goal. I’d like to see any of the guys try that goal, that is as good as you’re going to see from anybody!

As an aside I think it would actually be awesome if the MFC social media department set up a video this week of getting the likes of Petracca, Garlett, Oliver etc to try to emulate that goal at training and post the video on the club website. For one thing it would be a great way to tie the teams together, and I think it’d be hilarious to see the reactions. Even better if she’s there watching it!

Newmans goal happened right in front of me. It was special. Cunningham and Humphries look special players to me. Our midfield of Paxman, Pearce and O'Dea play well together. Jakobssen from Carlton played really well.

That passage of play where our stars were just shrugging legit tackles left, right and centre and side-stepping through was awesome.

But as much as 'the big 3' led the way, this was a real team effort. I don't think there was a player out there who didn't put in at least one crucial second effort at some stage. Whereas the Crows seemed really flat and disinterested in the hard stuff, contrary to their rep last season.

Hoare stood out to me this week. At the moment she's not making her mark on the scoreboard but I have a feeling that's not far away. Interesting that our forward line is very WNBL/basketball centric.

And I thought Hickey really stepped it up after a less than impressive game last week, which is all you can ask. Lowered the eyes and hit some targets. Looked like she enjoyed that goal too, and who wouldn't?

The Dees were very impressive today in both offensive and defensive aspects of the game. Considering the windy conditions the skill level was actually above average for most part.

Outnumbered the Crows in just about every contest and there were some very exciting passages of play.

I thought Bianca Jakobsson was brilliant at intercepting today, nice skills too.

That was a damn good win against quality opposition.  Our midfield and HB line absolutely spanked them and the skills were way better than last week.  Mifsud had a big impact up forward as well, even though she didn't show up so much in the stats.  She'll only be more dangerous in the next few weeks once she knocks the rust off.  I think we have a really dangerous forward line starting to take shape which is a bit of a surprise to me.  There really isn't any area where we are lacking provided we can keep this team on the park.

... and getting a highly-skilled intercept-marking defender seems to have really added so much to the team structure and performance. :D :D

As I said in a post earlier in the week, this Dees womens’ team is a classy outfit. I watch them with great satisfaction partly because I rarely have that sinking feeling that I have watching the men that their game all of a sudden will fall in a heap.

i think more more than anything else they have some outstanding leaders in Pearce,  Paxman and Hickey as well as some class in Hoare, Cunningham, O’Dea, Cranston and Newman. Mithen is pretty good as well. I look forward to watching them for the remainder of the season. They are a step above the rest of the competition at the moment, and play a great brand of football. I hope I will not be proved wrong for the remaining hopefully six weeks. I don’t think so!! The Dogs will be the crunch game IMHO.

BACK TO BACK by Ruby Tuesday

Despite a slow start that saw it lead by a solitary point at quarter time even though it had first use of a strong breeze at Casey Fields, Melbourne thrashed reigning premier Adelaide by 32 points to retain their unbeaten record in the 2018 AFLW competition.

The AFL hierarchy had made clear its edict for higher scoring and the adoption of a a 5-6-5 structure and the Demons responded with four goals against the wind in the second quarter to well and truly stitch up the game. With the lead out to 20 points at the main break, the home side continued to control proceedings and coasted home in the last for back to back victories.

In just two matches, they have passed 100 points for the season and gained recognition for their attractive play. The highlight was no doubt the Buddyesque goal from Aliesha Newman who carried the ball from the wing with three bounces evading two opponents and curved the ball through the big sticks  to record the early contender for goal of the year.

But the adage about a dominant midfield was no more pronounced than in this game with Melbourne’s Karen Paxman, Daisy Pearce and Elise O'Dea setting the tone from the very start with Paxman dictating terms after her injury scare in the opening game when she left the ground before quarter time with back spasms. This week she was leading possession gatherer with 21 disposals despite being afforded the luxury of a rest in the final term with the game well and truly done and dusted. O’Dea and Pearce worked hard all game and were not far behind her in the possession count.

The Demons worked harder than the Crows and were well rewarded with the four points for a game in which they held sway across the ground. Lily Mithen continued her impressive start to the season and Bianca Jakobsson again showed that she will be a vaualable addition to the ranks.

The team travels interstate for its next clash against the Dockers at Fremantle Oval.

And there's the thing D2014.  It would be so perfect for the 2 founding teams to be meeting at the business end of the season.

Does anyone else feel bemused by the complete lack of respect shown to the Dees and the Dogs in the first 2 years of AFLW.  I am gobsmacked that they are passed over for the big games and as always the League focusses on the so called power clubs who have yet to provide any evidence of competitiveness.

(Fair go to Adelaide and Lions for making the grand final last year by the way) BUT Melbourne and Footscray are the originators of this form of the game.  Surely they should be opening the season at the very least. All this is off topic but it does get my goat!

Go Dees!

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
