Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

...turned 30 in a few days time. How many more seasons in the red and blue? He’s played 239 games and all being well will reach the milestone 250 and more this year. So, can he go on to the magic 300? That’s a further 2/3 years! I’d love it if he could, your thoughts folks.

So long as he is first choice midfield, he can keep going. When he is being shuffled out of defense and off the forward flank, we can have that conversation more seriously.

Injuries and form permitting he'll play till he's 35 he'll get to 300. He has been the heart and soul of the joint for the past decade, deserves every accolade that comes his way.

I certainly hope you’re correct. With Jack Viney suffering re occurring foot problems Jones’ leadership is more important than ever IMHO. His resilience has been outstanding but suffered a little last season. I hope he can make another 3 or 4 years and a few finals appearances ( inc. the big one).

I think he'll make it to 300.

He prepares diligently and professionally and, touch wood, he hasn't had any major injuries during his career so his body should still be in pretty good nick.  If he can add another string to his bow (eg. a half back flank role) then he can potentially prolong his career even further.

Jonesy has been a fantastic servant of the Melbourne Football Club. Certainly played many games where he was unsupported and swimming against the tide. And therein lies the challenge for him. I think he got into the habit (understandably) of trying to do it all. Perhaps needs to increasingly play smarter with the realization that the support in the middle is now much greater.

Other than a broken neck!

I reckon he'll fall short of Neita's 300, but should pass Robbie's record.

I can't imagine he'll be around in 4 years time. If he is, it'd be on the back of experience and playing a steadying role off half back.

Very true!  I'd forgotten about that.

He doesn't show any ill effects of it, though.  He hasn't had any other major injuries to my knowledge (unless it fails me again!) and I think that holds him in good stead.

The omens are good. Managed to get through many years of being the main hard body and also hardest worker in the midfield, and get through most of it playing almost every game.

Ultra-professional preparation and recovery works in his favour, too.

Has actually spent less time in the collision packs in the last year or two, which is presumably a pattern for the future and will add to his years in the game.

Also positive is that his game has never relied on speed, even when away from packs. Has definite nous and alertness that lets him get involved and be in the right places.

My tip is he'll get past 300 games, with a real chance the timing will be set by pulling a Crawford and announcing retirement while holding the premiership cup.

I think he’ll make it to 300.  His body has been amazingly resilient over the years so hopefully he can hold it together for three more.  The end does come quickly though, so hopefully this calf injury was just a blip along the way.

Nathan Jones will be around playing for a number of years yet. He had been around for the bad times and now he deserves better.

He is at the top of his game barring any serious injury. He deserves the good times coming. Go Champ!

Our Shane Crawford maybe?

Hope we don't have to wait  4 seasons to lift the cup though...

He's not in the legendary status for mine, but if he wins a flag and becomes our club games record holder, he then takes his place alongside the greats.

Particularly, if he retains his captaincy, but this isn't a necessity to ensure legendary status.

if he plays the majority of games he'll get to game 300 (maybe in a GF?!) when he is 32 yo

he will sht it in and finish on ~340 games with a Matt Boyd-type couple of seasons in the back half

I like to see him start in the middle all the time. He works well as a Bob Murphy type sweeper across the backline later in the game.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
