Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This is a TV sport. At the actual game it is the most boring sports game.

what i meant was that the game is nominally 4 x 15min (=1hr) but a good part of that clock time is the clock running down with no action. Hence the real action is less than an hour. It's certainly not boring.....the cheer-leading girls are certainly entertaining....lol

yep, been to a game at the now demolished metrodome.....funny thing is all i remember is the cheer-leaders, the food and that the vikings lost and the funny feeling of sitting  in a stadium where it was -30 outside and stifling hot under their membrane roof held up by air pressure

To me SEN is on the skids.  Hutchy may be shrewd when it comes to the figures ($), but I am not sure his identification of so-called 'talent' is that good.  While I know much of the programming still relies on the summer sports calendar, personally I find most of the programming to be exceptionally boring.  The previous cameo by Dr Turf on KB's morning program was OK, but I just don't believe the chemistry can last for an entire program.  Andy Maher, to me, is extremely tedious, particularly his incessant preambles into inane questions.  Why SEN went back to the future with Maher beggars believe really.  While Finey could rankle, I at least found him entertaining  and particularly enjoyed his segment with Geoff Poulter, interviewing past VFL/AFL stars.

As for Whately, time will tell I guess.  Not that I think Whately is not an excellent sports broadcaster, but the fit with SEN just doesn't seem to me to be the right synergy.

I agree with much of this 'iva'...

I would add that to call Watson and Lyon personalities would be an affront to the English language, worse than Maher in my opinion.

However, the station has been on the skids for a while now and Hutchy has to try something.

Seems a bit scattergun at the moment but my guess is that Bartlett is on the way out, Hutch was contractually stuck with his morning crew and he will push for a younger demographic hence the US sport and younger evening hosts.

Whately is the one he is pinning a lot on and he will rise of fall on the level of his guests...they will need some real personality here to balance with Gerrard and I don't think Quatermain is the man for Monday mornings. He needs a loose canon, now if he could get Bomber then that would make things interesting.

So far, so bland...

Listened on the way into work 9.30 - 10.00, Whately had no one in the studio to bounce off, at no stage did he invite listeners to call in. I was going to say boring but bland will do.

I used to listen to KB regularly and liked his show. Occasionally  I would hear the 4- 6pm show and listen to other slots if I was in the car.

I will not tune in for the breakfast lot or Radar as they annoy me intensely.

At this point it looks like they will loose me in the 9-12 slot for a net loss.

So far I have not heard  anything that would increase my listening however I will give them a little more time.

there is more philosophical depth in one of my most erratic bowel movements , more profundity, and more wisdom, than their entire year of economic output. And that's being generous.

Gerard whately is going to call the Superbowl for SEN. US football is easily the second the best sport in the world running a very close second to Australian football and that's probably just down to my own biases. It is the most strategic game bar none and there is an infinite number of things to dissect and talk about.

Not sure the average Australian audience/SEN listener will care though.

Love the NFL. No idea what Whateley's knowledge of the game is but the calling is easier than the special comments, it is usually an ex player/coach doing that and they talk through what happened and how. If they have some one decent with him it could work, if not it will fail massively.

Who will listen to radio coverage of the Super Bowl? Bizarre decision.

GW is a proven performer, way better for generating advertising revenues.

Anybody has to be better than that idiot Bartlett he is from a different era and has no concept of modern day football. Bartlett appeals to the dumb-ass, bolted on "fanboys" that just dont understand AFL footy circa 2018.

However, saying that he does have a good dynamic with DR Turf who does belittle him well.

I gave up consistently listening to SEN 3-4 years ago, it has so many traits similar to footy forums - Would I listen again 50/50 but not at this stage.

Better than listen to talk about tennis, golf etc etc

I don't think it will be a ratings winner and agree it's a bit bizarre but he needs to try new things to get people listening.

Just returned from a trip to the states and went to 2 NFL games. One was the Oakland Raiders last home game, and the other the New Orleans Saints for wildcard weekend. Both games were awesome and the atmospheres were far better than any other sporting event I’ve been to.

Definitely not just a TV game for mine and like most USA sports they keep you entertained during the downtime.

Wow How'd you score tickets to the wildcard game? That would've been a great game to be at, divisional rivals and went down to the wire.

Yes, agree. Tennis has to be the worst sport in the world for radio. Just behind motor sports.

I have actually listened to golf on an internet radio stream (majors where i haven't been able to watch on TV) and found it actually works quite well. Sort of like test cricket, but with the hushed tones of green side commentators.

can't agree, binman. I grew up in the australian tennis glory days listening to davis cup and grand slams on my tranny. Of course it helped that we had so many winners and there was no tv or it was in its infancy wrt ob broadcasting

cricket football and tennis were the big sports items back in the radio halcyon days. you shouldn't compare it to radio nowadays.

btw i have little interest in professional tennis these days

It was surprisingly easy. They have a huge resale market in the USA so got tickets through Ticketmaster resale a couple of hours before the game. Pretty cheap all things considered too.

These two guys worked there for 12 and 14 years and were basically told to p-ss off, hand in your pass now and get out of the station immediately. Surely after that long a little more respect is due.

I only just tuned in to SEN for the first time yesterday and was wondering why KB was on in the usual Ox / Marko slot.  I found the afternoon session just turned in to a constant "in house" plug for the greyhound industry after the live rabbit debacle, seemingly being pushed by Marko on behalf of his Dad's interests in the sport.  There were constant advertorials being run every 20 minutes or so.  I switched off after i heard about a weeks worth of that rubbish.

Having said that i can't agree more Mr Leg.  But unfortunately this tends to be the way of the corporate world and has been since the 80s really.  It takes no prisoners once it decides you are no longer worthy of investing in and more often than not will speak with a forked tongue.

I still recall to this day, siting in the boardroom of the CEO of a very well known English insurance Company (Australian HQ) a few decades ago having lunch.   The topic of conversation, raised by the hosting CEO himself (an ex ANZ CEO also), was that if he could have his way he would list human workers on a version of the stock exchange for buying / selling / trading.  Just like a commodity.  When he was quizzed about this he didn't flinch or indicate he was joking in any manner whatsoever.  He was quite serious about the concept!

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
