Matt Balmer of AFL Draft Central has done us Demon fans a favour with his Final AFL Draft Power Rankings Part 1.

The reason for that is he’s running down from 50 to 1 with this first lot therefore covering players ranked 26 to 50 which covers the range of all four MFC draft selections in 2017.

I will link the less important ? power rankings when they come out next week.

Pretty comprehensive stuff.

I think you always need to draft the best available rather than for need.  I think we, along with all other clubs, have fallen into that trap before.  It is good to see however that Spargo looks like being the best available and filling a need around our 1st-3rd picks.

I think in the range we will be looking, every recruiter will have a different perspective on who is best available.

So best fit will do me.

Great to have stats - from different leagues - and the combine results as well as the write ups. That's great work.

On the other hand, if we end up picking some players from the 1 to 25 list that comes out next week then could that not mean that we've done well in the draft?

It probably just means the media "experts" don't really know what they're talking about.

What is this power rankings garbage?  I notice the Twomey guy on afl.com does the same thing.

Doesn't anyone have the balls to predict the actual draft anymore (ie mock draft)?

Next week mate, they'll do it the morning of or day before to get it as accurate as possible.

It's about where they rank the draftees as a prospect, as opposed to where they'll be selected (which is affected by specific clubs needs).

Didn't think it was that complicated.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

We'll break down the Match SIM against North Melbourne and wrap up the preseason with insights into training and our latest recruits.
