Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Thank god most people here are not buying into this pc rubbish.

If he/she wants to identify as a women thats fine but to say we all have to change facts and warp reality to make her feewings better is rubbish.

I guarantee if the aflw had an anonymous survey to the women if they are comfortable with a bloke playing a vast majority would say no.

I do find it interesting that none of the aflw players have made any sort of statement about this.

Exactly right. Pc rubbish is what it is. You are what you born with and not with the calamity going on in ones head.

I'm in the awkward position of having no problem at all with transgender people, but also recognising the basic practicality of biological sex being a factor in body size and 'upper ceilings' of physical size, density and the like.

It is unfortunate for Hannah that she is right at the top end of the range of physical size, and I do think it is appropriate to exclude her from the top, professional level where incomes and greater glory are at stake.

I'm ok with the AFL's decision to prevent Hannah from entering the professional level AFLW while also not making any obstruction to her participation at amateur level.

Spot on and one of the few sensible and respectful posts.

For many of the posts on this thread, poor effort.

If you knew any transgender people you would understand their pain, anguish and at times, difficulty in living.

They deserve respect and understanding for their courageous decision.

But physically it is not appropriate she plays and the photos tell you why.

In track and field, Semenya has made a mockery of the womens 800m.

Ok then, tell us EXACTLY where you draw the line then hemingway.

You clearly understand what a joke it is that a male called Caster runs in womens sport, and why a bloke calling himself Hannah cannot play Womens sport.

What would be the cutoff point for you to "respectfully" tell your trans mate that he should not be able to participate in womens sport?

I say its when he has a set of dangleberries at birth. Whats yours?

While i respect that you have an opinion what i will point out is that in the states in a pro mma circuit a trans "women" has been doing the rounds for a while and has been MANhandling (yes pun is intended) women not beating them by any skill just pure strength.

I am not denying their humanity by stating that sort of thing should not be taking place they are suffering from a mental health issue which i do sympathise this.

As a matter of fact i wish all trans and gender fluid people god speed in whatever it is that they choose to do to hopefully live a happy life.

A big survey was done in the states of 1000 men and women throwing a baseball just average joes no athletes and only 2 women threw faster than the slowest men this is why we have mens leagues and womens league it is a simple biological fact that men are stronger.

A transgender woman with the physiology of a man, chromosome and hormone levels of a man should not play women's football. As much as anything its a health and safety issue for the other players.

In the case of Semenya, her physical profile gives her enormous physical advantages over the speed/strength endurance distance of 800m and 1500m.  A little like the advantages provided by doping. I think it is sad for the athlete, but for me her championship races and records are meaningless.

Jack Viney had to be cautioned and then moved to higher levels of junior football because his natural biological advantages (being a Viney) made him too hard for the other kids to deal with.

But I'm not going to call being a Viney a mental disorder.

Now give us your reasons as to why this is relevant to a man playing against women.

I look forward to your compelling argument.

If Emily wants to play womens footy I have no objection. Would not ry to stop her.I would even consider using the correct pronoun for her.

Emily can do whatever she wants.

What would the AFL do if a couple of really big sheilas wanted to play footy? There are some big girls playing basketball. Liz Cambage comes to mind. She is bigger than Mouncey and I'd imagine bloody strong.

I see no logic in the AFL's decision.

Men are bathed in testosterone from conception.

A man of short stature and only say 70 kgs is far stronger than Cambage.

As i put above put into youtube fallon fox mma fight even the opponent said that it was the hardest punch she ever got.

Another point one of the williams girls played a man that was barely inside the top 200 tennis players they played a few sets and he won absolutely no contest i rest my case

Quite right Ernest.

I smashed the womens record in both the 800M and 1500M back in the day. I'm still very proud of that.

Semenya is more of a Hermaphrodite I believe.

The East German girls were a bit like the Chinese swimmers-faster Cheatahs.

Sometimes, but not always, true.

In any case, Mouncey's testosterone levels are well below IOC guidelines.

And finally, she will apparently still be allowed to play in more junior comps where I imagine opposition players would be less skilled in protecting themselves.

My point stands, there is no logic in the AFL's decision.

Yes but the hormonal levels in an 8 year old boy exceed that of a teenager. It is a whole life biological fact the AfL has for once ,wisely ,taken into account.

And that's the problem.  The IOC set levels way, way above what a "normal" women would have, in order to accomodate Semenya and the  South Africans.  If the IOC had any  guts neither Semenya nor Mouncey nor former East Germans would have an argument to compete with women.

The AFL was lucky to call on aspects of the Discrimination act to allow them to discriminate.  I don't know how this would hold up in a challenge in court.

Upset?

Try answering instead of the usual polly speak.

The AFL was correct, and such there is zero to be upset about unless you are a bleeding heart lefty who is happy to see the new women's comp undermined by a dude competing against girls.

My partner has played on the same team as a trans woman who was also much bigger than her teammates and opposition. She was just someone who wanted the chance to play again after 20 years away from footy and had to play in the women's league due to legally being female, if females were allowed to play with blokes she would have.

To her credit she never used her size to her advantage, never smashed packs, never tackled hard, never wanted to hurt anyone. Just wanted to play the game she loved like everyone else.

I think Hannah might be a tad more competitive than her though and not pull out of contests to protect players. I would worry if my partner were playing against her and she said said wouldn't want to play against her either.

Tragically, women have been getting faster and you're getting slower!

Difference between men's and women's 1500m record is now 24 seconds, about 11%.

Pretty good value for money, I'd say.

So Hannah 'The Package' Mouncey can't play in the major league but, oddly, can line up for Ainslie in the suburbs of Canberra. That should be fun for the public servants having a run around just to keep fit.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
