Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

2017 Player Reviews: # 33 Jake Spencer

UNDERSTUDY

When Max Gawn was forced onto the sidelines with a torn hamstring, the perfect opportunity for a breakthrough presented itself to the man regarded as the perpetual ruck understudy. Unfortunately, it was not to be as Spencer suffered an AC joint injury. Weeks later and not long after his return, Spencer received a one match club suspension and by then Gawn was back. Jake spent the rest of the season going through the motions at Casey and was delisted after they went out of the VFL finals in straight sets.

I know a little bit more about this, it appears he was offered another one year contract just before the "night out" and rejected it because he " was getting offers from other clubs" .

Club evidently suggested he proceed in that direction and night out followed.

Me thinks he shot himself in the foot.

his first game back and first half against tigers were really strong

then we found a way to play essentially without a ruckman

his form in the vfl would have appeared to have not been compelling enough to get back into the senior side, and it's amazing really that he got nine years on a senior list

i can't really see him getting picked up by another club to be honest

Its astonishing that you can get 9 years on a senior list and never once be your club's number one ruckman.

I thought Jake was okay depth for a while there, but he really fell away over the last year or two. His inability to put pressure on a flailing Gawn late this season really hurt us.

I would be gobsmacked if he was at another club next season, and he really only has himself to blame if old dee's post above is accurate.

A few smart clubs saw how WCE performed during the finals.  We were one of them and zeroed in on Preuss.  The media (and some clubs) didn't get it at first.  It finally dawned on them that the game is changing.

Some have been scrambling to find a second ruckman so a few have been thrown lifelines:  Mumford, Roughead, Clarke and perhaps Spencer.

A few clubs will be found wanting with just one recognised ruckman or two average ruckman.  Ironically, they seem to be the clubs that ended the year at the bottom of the ladder.

Including smart, Gold Coast and Spencil is very impressive...

Really hope they do.

Has good news story written all over it:

*  Queensland boy;

*  Hard luck story who never quite cracked it in his previous attempt;

I personally think this could work for Gold Coast.  Liked Spencer.  Big tough guy that alway gave 100% effort within the somewhat average ability he had.  Was just starting to find a bit of a place within the MFC team when Max went down at the start of 2017, only to then get injured himself.

I'm not sure that Spencer offers quite the same impact as Mumford, but I think he could have a similar influence by being that big bodied mature player that clears a path and looks after a young group of team mates comming through.

Very little mobility or skill but had the strength and endurance. Every time he was starting to look a little better he got injured.

Paul Roos always rated him and said earlier this year he should still be on an AFL list. I guess there's only 50 or so rucks in the country that have the right size, strength and endurance and whilst Spencil might be the worst of those 50 he's still one of them.

There's been rumours of Roos consulting with the Suns as he has a relationship with Dew as well as George Stone and like we did the Suns are also trying to build from defensive work and around the contest. Having ruck depth so you can do that at AFL and NEAFL level is important.

I've never thought of it this way. There would be hundreds or thousands of wannabee ruckmen who have some of those traits (or all of them but with no football ability) which just goes to show how tough it is to find a decent one, let alone the best. And we have him.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
