It's also true of this site that players are written off and then surprise, ANB Jetta and Hunt being 3 in recent times

JKH has a preseason to impress and get into the AFL side and stay there

Valid point, but despite him being one of my favorites, I am becoming a big doubter of JKH’s ability physically to make the grade. I would just love to be proven wrong.

Unfortunately his has played for bad games than good and appears to be showing to many weaknesses ATM. ANB and Jetta still showed more at the same stage to warrant progression.

It would take one big turnaround for him to be still on the list after 2018.

I seriously think you need to take blinkers off .

I'm really surprised they kept JKH over Kennedy. Both play very similar roles. I just think Kennedy seemed to have more pace and intensity then Jay. I know Ben's disposal was poor and an issue for him playing VFL this year which may have impacted his chances of staying.

JKH just hasn't shown any key attributes that he can bring to the top level. He started to find a lot more of the football in the VFL but in the games I watched, his possessions did not amount to much.

I think ANB showed really consistent contested football at VFL and obviously worked on his disposal and decision making to lift himself into the seniors and carve a roll at HF. and Hunt showed terrific competitiveness around the contest in the air and at ground level early on to go along with elite speed. He was breaking the lines early on which is a skill we don't have much of at Melbourne. Jay is sort of stuck in between these two types of players IMO,

JKH has ability and needs to be  consistent. That will give him confidence with a big preseason.

He has a point though. JKH was retained when others have been reminded of the nearest exit. That he has one more year to prove himself is a fact.

I'd love to hear from the Casey watchers because mid season he seemed to go up a gear and strung together a number of 40 possession games. If he can translate that in to a regular 25 in the seniors then there's a spot for him.

Like many here I'm sceptical, but the FD who know a lot more about footy than I do have backed him. I am prepared to remain open minded.

What blinkers      just don't disparage players on the list     I am not the List Manager   nobody on here  is       so no reall idea on decisions

Don't think he was disparaging, just voicing his opinion on a player, in fact he even said a couple of positive things about him.

Doesn't matter how much he/she 'knows'.

Forums and all that...

Try reading Saty.. Disparaging I dont think. Calling a spade a spade that is all.

A 3ft ruler is not a Metre.  Both will help you , but only one is a metre.

Ill leave you to ponder that.

I understand all of that. He still has a year to run on contract , some others don't. Easy to let loose of them. That's another view perhaps.

I'm still stuffed to know where he could play  meaningfully at AFL level and who would be pushed aside. What he does well at VFL  level we can cover at AFL level. I dont see his way in. He'd have to lift enormously  to be able to bash doors down.

I just dont see that happening.

Me too bb I just don't see him as an AFL talent. In the few games I saw at Casey he had plenty of possessions but does bugger all with them.

It's a forum, so I don't agree with some 'opinions' on players, whether JKH can do what is asked of him, and I know what that is, coz I have talked to him, only time will tell, but obviously the FD think he is worth giving a year to, to try

I never stopped wearing 39 on my jumper coz I knew Nev would make it, think, like a couple of coaches, there is something with in JKH, we'll see

I am not sure what you and some others on here don't get, it is 2017 going into 2018

Goody will each week pick a 22 who are in form and fit, and able to play a role to a high standard

Yes there may be one or two that may get picked on reputation and past performance, but if you don't play your role, you won't get picked, surely the Watts' situation tells you that much

The challenge for JKH and every other player is to be one of those 22 picked on a consistent basis

We had the situation last year where ANB and Harmes hardly appeared in a 'best 22' listing on here pre season, remind me how many games they played again?

I don’t disbelieve you fwiw Saty

But what role is it that has been outlined for him?

I don’t think he’s ‘best option’ for any position yet, but no doubt that he’s on the list there will be an opportunity for him at stage

I ultimately don’t think there’s enough about his ‘brand’ of football to make it at afl level - not massively quick, can get a lot of it in vfl but doesn’t seem to do much with it based on the scant # of games i’ve seen, doesn’t appear to have any brilliant skills, not a big tackler, not a ‘smart’ player

but we shall see

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
