Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

T mac is a better forward than Watts.  Has Watts ever kicked 5 goals in a  game?  T Mad did just a few games after shifting forward,  and hes a career backman.

Adios, Jackie boy.

Tmac's leading patterns were woeful in half of the games he was forward. It's why Roos didn't have him in there for long stints when he experimented it in 2015/16.

He's a better contested marker than Jack, but to claim that he's a better forward than Jack just because he has had a 5 goal game is laughable.

It's like saying Scott Cummings was a better forward than David Neitz because he kicked 10 in a game once.

T Mac has far superior endurance than Watts, which is imperative for a key forward, which Watts is not.

I don't understand why anyone at the club had to make public statements about Jack leaving, well before any deal had been done.  They should have repeated over and over "Jack is a contracted player", and then kept all the real conversations behind closed doors.

What happens now if he ends up staying cos a deal doesn't get over the line?  The club has basically announced that we don't want him at the club.  That sort of talk can even further damage the bloke, and further hurt his chances of bouncing back and finding some fresh motivation in 2018.  All that might be OK, except for the fact that we are still paying him a fortune, and that he can still be a top 5 player for the club.

This is true, but they also went on to make comment as to why they want him to explore their options. That gets out in the media, rumors fly around other clubs and that is why things can sour.  The suggestion he didn't prepare well, or hasn't got the most out of his ability etc. There is generally only one way to perceive that.... and if everything is rosy you wouldn't have asked him to explore his options in the first place.

Goodwin stated they have encouraged Jack to explore other opportunities....when he is not even half way through his current contract.  I would say that's sending a very clear message that the club is happy for him to move on.

My question is, how are these public comments helpful?  Surely these conversations could remain private until a deal is actually inked?

Very easily Junior.  The only plausible and reasonable argument for running down a player whilst in a draft window with 2 years remaining on his contract would be to send him a huge message, hope that his draft value then drops considerably so that you then say any (post public trashing) deals are just too unacceptable and then attempt to mend any rift and get try to get Jack to improve as you see fit.

Anything else was purely suicidal for both Jack and the club in terms of upside surely.  Whether it started off as a soft kick and got out of hand with some unfortunate but amateurish comments that weren't planned...

Because if they didn't say anything then you'd complain about not being informed.

UH since when has the public / members / supporters at AFL / VFL (pre AFL) level ever been fully informed and aware of what truly goes on within the four walls of a club or the commission itself?

As KB has always said, lying is the second language of the AFL (and I would add many of those who are directly involved with it and who rely on it as their major or sole source of income).

....a few fine examples of it on an 'en masse' scale.

- The 'well planned' extraction by the AFL Commision of the imminent bargain basement sale of what was left of the Fitzroy  FC to Norf in 1996, instead handing it to Brisbane; and

- The Essendrug saga

..... No one saw either of these coming (even Norf officials who believed they were on the cusp of securing many of the FFC contracted players) outside of a few select parties within the AFL & Essendrug (following the "alleged" tip off to Essendrug officials, supposedly by the then head of the AFL).  The Essendrug officials (and most of the players involved) then went on to deny anything untoward had happened and apparently had absolutely no knowledge, records or recollection of whatever the substance was that was being injected multiple times into each player in an off site location, and then expected the public to believe that as well.

I have absolutely no expectation whatsoever, and never have had, that anyone at the MFC or AFL level will ever tell us the complete and full story on any important internal AFL/Club/player related matter UH.

221 pages of emotive posts. No Range Rover nor snow skiers on Demonland. We are a resilient tribe.

Jack Watts remains on the Demonland banner for a few more hours.

Maybe it has been our version of the Truman Show !! We gotta laugh or we would all go mad.

So the media have a scoop about a media magnet player but they're not reporting it.

That sounds exactly like something the media would do.

the only way I can see that happening is if Watts is screwing both Rupert Murdoch and Bill Shorten.

What about Jerry?

Say it again.

There is far more to this than the club or the media are letting on...

I disagree.

I think there is far less than is being made of this by the media.

A serial under performer for the 9 seasons he has been on the list and the club has said, best you have a look at other options. If we can get value in a trade that you agree to, we will take it. Since that time I think the club has been mainly very disciplined and consistent  in all that it has said.

Jack will either stay or go. Whichever it is, it is up to jack as to how he responds.

I think that the AFL media has made a mountain out of a molehill.

In my opinion, if you strip away the media hype, the football club has handled it well whatever the outcome. I back the football department to make the right decisions.

I think that the change of the head coach position since that contract was signed explains that. I think it is clear that Goodwin would not have supported that contract. As I understand it, not all on the coaching panel agree with giving jack the option of looking for other options at this stage. With something like this, within any group, you will get a range of opinions.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
