Rookie mistake. You should never bury a body, it will just preserve it.

. I wish him the best but will be very surprised if we see a transformed performance from him next season.

Whatever his mis-match and failings at MFC, he doesn't have to have a transformed performance to do well at Port.  Whatever your view of the benefits of trading him, don't forget where is was in the B&F 2016 and where is was in the count before he was injured this year.

Watched Lever closely in the crucial game against the Weagles and also the GF

He did little to impress on these two occasions. Also his average disposals were almost the same as Watts. Time will tell.

If that is honestly what you think, then I'm sorry but there is no point discussing this further.

Lever is already a better player than Watts ever was, at 6 years his junior. His bravery, his contested marking and his reading of the ball is elite. Those are things we've been crying out for, not just from Watts, but from our team. We got absolutely destroyed in contested marking this year, and Lever fixes that almost immediately. He also allows Tom McDonald to play forward/ruck.

Watts is a nice player with very high kicking skills, but poor defensive skills and extremely poor contested marking for someone of his height. I've always liked him, and I truly wish him nothing but the best and I truly hope he flourishes at Port. But for god's sake, lets not go crazy here. Lever is already a better player, and his ceiling is twice as high and twice as long as Watts'.

What were Dean Terlich and Matt Jones best finish in a b and f?

I just broke the news to my little fella, he's gone all quiet reflecting on his favourite player, 'carn' Wattsy!' he'd call out in his loudest voice every week. Really lamenting the fact I just got a number 4 pressed into his footy jumper  Xmas present now.

How does that in any way a knock on Watts' recent performance?  Or are you saying the FD are a bunch of idiots when they vote on the B&F?    He's gone, give it a rest.

I think we can all relate to a similar experience from our own childhood - it hurts.

Fingers crossed they give the 4 to Lever...

Couldn't agree more.

But you should  acknowledge that bagging the footy dept who let a a player go who finished 6th once in 9 years. It's a silly argument that actually supports a decision to move him on.

Jones and Terlich finished 3rd and 4th in their 2nd years from memory.

So how many number 1s and top 25 draft pics have we [censored] up now???

Quite obviously the FD didn't want him.

He had no option but to go.

If he stayed he would have been doing a Trengove and spending the next 2 years in the VFL

Mahoney just said it’s a possibility that we will PAY some of his salary.

FMD THAT IS PATHETIC.

 The MFC is absolutely useless.

Bye Jack , it’s ok mate, we all know that your flawed genius was left un nurtured by the rabble that manged this club early on and you were (and still are) simply misunderstood by the football masses.

all the best at port , however do try to get yourself omitted or out of form so you we don’t have to agonise over you proving a point that we shouldn’t have traded you     (let alone for pick 31 .... FMD if you going to shoot bambi at least get [censored] better than pick 31 in return .... geeez !!!)

Buy a 1 and press that on. Hibberd's a better footy role model

Mahoney pretty much confirmed that we're also paying part of Watts' salary

Yep, 31 is an absolute stinker if we are still paying half his salary.

The only way 31 was justifiable was if Port were taking on all the $500k.

Would really love to know what these standards were that he didn't meet.

Until then it's hard to judge, but from the outside looking in, 31 feels like too little.

Listen to the simpletons boo him next year, when in fact he loved the club and wanted to stay.

Club has no right to play the loyalty card when Trac and Co are offered big coin in 2019/20.

Like his old man said, we stuffed him and later stoned him.

Pick 31 or Watts?  Give me Watts.

You can bet your bottom dollar the booing will come from the Watts haters like Dr Gonzo, Petracca and Dr d. to name a few

Nobody will boo Watts next year, in fact all will probably cheer for him, me included.

Fair deal, said all along a late second rounder, inconsistent and dropped to the VFL as a senior player did him no good.

This is also the best thing for Jack, fresh start to try and achieve what he set out to do.

Happy he's gone, we now as a club can move on too without the black cloud judging us on Jacks output.

Pressure on Goodwin now to deliver, all the best Jack, I hope you find happiness and consistency to be the best you can be.

Lets cheer the bloke on next year, it just didn't work out in the end.

I assume you are not referring to me, but in case so, I've not bagged the footy dept.  If anything I've said they know more than we do.  But I have bagged those whose negative remarks about Watts have been totally over the top.

I was arguing that Watts' recent performance may well be sufficient for Port. He doesn't have to have a dramatic improvement to have an impact.  I think his recent B&F performances (and don't give me that 21st post-injury rubbish) would be seen as acceptable to Port though of course they'd hope for more.  They did take him it seems.  So where is the silly argument?

I love Jack but I love the club and the jumper a hell of a lot more.

Remember that they know more about list management and running a football club than all of us.

Pick 31 is unders, but how have we been robbed this trade period we got lever?

The melts on here will be epic once pick 31 becomes pick 35+ due to FA compo, father son and academy selections.

Confirmed as a likelihood by Mahoney on SEN.

Feel like he wouldn't have mentioned it unless Ox asked the question

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
