How about we strip it all back, put picks and cost to one side for a moment and consider this in simple terms:

IN: Lever

OUT: Watts

Happy?

I am.

And OUT - 2 first round draft picks.

Jeezus, now Jack Watts is a Robbie Flower incarnate. With all that gut running you'd think he'd average more than 15 possessions a game.

So he is a second Robbie Flower because he is running up and down the wing? Where did he mention Flower?

*See first sentance

Watts wasn't part of that trade.

It was a trade between the Crows and the Demons involving Lever and draft picks.

That we ultimately secured Lever may now influence what we seek to do with Watts but he wasn't part of the Lever deal. Fact.

I think he thinks Petracca is part T-Rex.

Haha Petracca is my 4yo's fave too, I think he just loves saying the name "Petraccaaaaa"

Sigh. The point was an overall look at trade period so far.

Just forget it.

Easy to answer that one Skuit. We more senior members ( I speak for myself) have seen many great Melbourne players over the years and Jack Watts is one of them. Goodwin is a paid servant who just hasn't got real MFC credentials. He's an Adelaide FC man born and bred. Gee, I wish we had someone like Todd Viney in charge. Someone with a Melbourne connection.

Off the top of my head. Clarkson to Hawks 2005. No HFC connection. No HFC credentials. (He replaced Peter Schwab who had lots of HFC credentials.)

Sheedy 1981. No EFC connection. No EFC credentials. (He replaced Barry Davis who has lots of EFC credentials.)

Those clubs must be spewing.

but it is plain to see that Goodwin doesn’t want him anywhere near the place.

I just wonder what REALLY happened.

I don’t believe any of the media.  Something we haven’t been privy to has happened.

Goodwin has kicked him out of Victoria for picks in the 30’s!!!

Next season is going to be very different.

Simple to work out. Goodwin and Watts had a serious disagreement and Mr Goodwin just wants to show who is the boss. Letting personal feelings override his judgement.

I get what you're saying.

BUT we spent two first round draft picks on landing Lever (which I'm personally comfortable with). That simply can't be overlooked though.

Throwing Watts into the mix as well seems gratuitous.

Goody asked for a pair of free board shorts. Watts said he had to pay retail like everyone else. Goody asked what about a discount. Watts said only volume discounts and you have pre order for 5000 units. Goody said that isn't fair and Watts laughed and kicked sand in his face and tried to crack on to his missus.

Yes Jack thats right, our gameplan is handball ferociously forward until we cough it up, your tendency to kick the ball doesn't fit in to our future plans. All predominant kickers of the ball will be gone at all costs!

Bomber Thompson to the Cats

Leigh Matthews to the Lions

History is abundant with these examples. It's just an absolute [censored] comment and completely disrespectful to our coach.

I guess he'd prefer Garry Lyon was pulling the strings, maybe he could land us another Neeld

but it is plain to see that Goodwin doesn’t want him anywhere near the place. He's not alone, though possibly not the main / nor only protagonist :o

I just wonder what REALLY happened. As might all

I don’t believe any of the media.  Something we haven’t been privy to has happened. Almost nothing of this is as it seems. Someone's sold the story well ;)

Goodwin has kicked him out of Victoria for picks in the 30’s!!!  Well...for not much certainly...and maybe not even unloaded all the debt !!

Next season is going to be very different. Hopefully..we still get on with some better footy...always a possibility....but then it's always been ..and not always happened.  Let's hope for change  :roos:

No he wouldn’t be that stupid. Disagreements can be sorted out. This one cuts a lot deeper

as i said when this all started

Goodwin has put both his balls on the line, if this backfires badly, his coaching career is over.

I will back him in.

I am just happy Jack didn’t go to Jeelong.

At Port it’s out of mind out of sight...

Im torn. Should we get rid of Tyson who cant dispose of it or jack Watts who can cleanly deliver but only gets it in single figures.

Would both together get a 1st rounder?

Franky,  you posted the following in the Jack Watts (again) thread on August 5th.

He is playing like someone who believes he will be traded.

Was that your opinion purely on observation or did you catch wind of something more behind the scenes?

You don't need to watch the game again. Richmond put the ball inside forward 50 at the earliest opportunity in the first half. There was very little precision delivery.

They played to their strengths never kicking to a one on one unless a bad match up was identified (Dusty vs Brown). The balls in were kicked to space or to large packs where Richmonds small forwards swarmed to the grounded contest.

On all occasions Townsend did whatever it took to prevent Lever intercept marking.

It was an obvious game plan and with the corridor being cut off and Rance rebounding everything the Crows back half were under seige.

Dusty spent most of the first half drawing pressure from 2 to 3 players before feeding off to outside runners.

The second half when the Crows were dead and Richmond had all the run is when the skills improved in terms of delivery but that was down to lack of pressure.

We don't have the players in our forward 50 to play this way and Watts would be obsolete in this set up

Brilliant summary PSD .. it was the kind of discussion I was trying to initiate when I opened the thread about where the Tigers would end up next year.

Both against GWS and Adelaide, Richmond denied them the corridor. Will be interesting to see how the classic clubs restructure to try and regain dominance.

Why not come over to this thread to continue the discussion.

OMG, is there such a place?

I don’t think a nice APS schoolboy like Jack will thrive in such a $h1thole with, presumably, rough types abounding in every alleyway. The poor chap will soil his undies.

I have, I used to drive ships in and out of there. It's where you'll see dolphins in the river which have two heads, defects & stumpy tails. Place is a sh1thole.

A relative who knows one or 2 of the boys socially, said that when Jack returned from injury late in the year he started having some big nights out. People note nightclub behavior. I saw Jacks lack of endevour and dispirited application around the same time. I dont know any more than that. It was a throwaway line2 months ago.

Yes my father spent a lot of time working there many years ago, as were his stories of what he saw

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
