Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Covers ground, gets outside (averages most uncontested possies in the league), and kicks it 18 times a game.

Neat left foot too. He would complement our hard nosed midfield.

He really is the exact type of player we require short of a star of the game of course (which every couple 'needs').

I love how we get so picky when we've been banging on all year about our lack of outside run and distribution. Here is a guy that offers precisely that.

We were never going to get Kelly, so put that one in the bin. We know that Kelly would compliment any midfield perfectly and is just what we lack, blah, blah, blah. But he's not in the picture. So in turning our attention to a realistic alternative, Gaff really does fit the bill nicely (yes, I do believe Gaff is gettable now that the Eagles' ball winners are all retiring, they'll look to rebuild).

Let's really think about this. Gaff is a nice kick, he runs all day, he gets to good positions as a result and would suit our game style to a tee. You only have to look at how integral Hibberd and Hunt's run became to our play this year to know Gaff's strengths are perfect for our team. He's also a far better wing option than the aging and much slower Lewis.

And let me ask you this. Does Isaac Smith win his own ball? Does Lewis Jetta win his own ball? Does Brad Hill win his own ball? Gaff is in exactly the same category and would compliment Viney, Oliver, Tyson, Petracca and Salem beautifully.

Problem is, all 3 are among the first go missing when things get tough and Gaff is similar. And of the 5 of ours you've listed, i'd only have 2 as one's you could count on to at least try and do something to change the course of a match (2 guesses who!)

2 out of 5 ain't bad. How many in Hawthorn's dynasty did they have in the midfield that could change things? 2? 3 maybe? I fail to see how Gaff being this sort of player is ultimately bad. Smith, Jetta and Hill have all won multiple premierships between them...

If you're depending on your outside runners to keep you in the game "when the going gets tough", you're in big big trouble. Cos if you're down because you're getting smashed on the inside, even the best outside runners in the history of the game (whoever they were) ain't gonna save you.

In fact, this comment (and the many others like it) encapsulates my major reservation about getting Gaff or someone like him. Over the past 10 years we've burned any potential outside runners we've had, because we are incapable of using their biggest assets so we try to turn them into Jack Viney. If we got somebody with Gaff's combination of high-level aerobic running plus genuine speed, as well as good disposal, we'd only complain because he doesn't win contested ball at the same time.

We always seem happier with one-paced contested-ball mids than anybody with outside run or the ability to find space or great disposal skill. We really devalue uncontested-ball skills, then wonder why we keep turning it over.

Many on Demonland wouldn't have given Craig Bradley a game, because he didn't get contested ball.

Agreed.  Plus (career averages):

- Doesn't defend nor put pressure on the ball carrier:

  • 1% things (.86 per game).
  • tackles  (1.8 per game).
  • contested possessions ( 6 of 25 per game).

- Doesn't help the team score:

  • i50 (3.6 per game).
  • goals (.35 per game).
  • goal assists (.52 per game)
  • clearances (2 per game)

- Doesn't show signs of being able to defend up forward or in the mid.

- Hasn't impacted in finals.

In summary, he is not an impact player either offensively nor defensively.

Admittedly, he had a good year when he made AA in 2015 but hasn't shown a lot since.

I know stats aren't everything but over a long period they do tell a story.  Based on his stats and DL's penchant for aggressive, go in hard players, he would become the new DL whipping boy!

Being able to run and once a Dees supporter isn't enough to gain my vote.

I posted it a while back, but a lot of Eagles fans dont rate him, saying he is least damaging 30 posession player they have ever seen. Above stats confirms

I don't want an outside mid.

A player who can get his own ball, has a bit of leg speed & hits a target will do just fine.

We actually need outside running players with kicking .

Are there any articles/info out there saying he is actually interested in a trade back to Melbourne? They are losing Priddis and Mitchell this year, so I doubt they'd be keen to lose all of their midfield in one year...

Yeah, fair enough.

It's just that "outside mid" is a lot easier to say.

I hear Josh Kelly is keen on a move to the Dees

It's a back loaded contract, ie the club pays him 500k under Norfs offer because he so desperately wants to play with his draft mates. And his draft mates all pool together to pay him back 500k with their own money.

I don't know how to link a Facebook post but Brad Hardie has suggested in/via the WCE supporters page that the Eagles offload Gaff to St Kilda and expect pick 7 or 8 and Blake Acres in return.

Brad Hardie is trippin!

Gaff is not worth a top 10 pick in my book. More so late first round. If he kicked 25+ goals a season. He would be worthy of a pick around 10.

Tom Mitchell swap for Pick 14 is a guide. Tom is a much better player and has more influence on the outcome of a game.

If the Dees were to trade for Gaff.

OUT - Pick 17 (Lever trade) & Kent

IN - Gaff & Pick 46

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
