OUR LIKELY FIXTURE FOR NEXT SEASON?

What do fans expect for next season? Now that we have bombed spectacularly at the last hurdle will we get a better draw or more of the same like games at Darwin, Alice, Hobart, Canberra and home games at Etihad? And of course premium time slots. I think more of the same despite PJ's plea.

Too many five day breaks means we will play too many Friday night games for the AFL's comfort. Bad for ratings to get thrashed on that night. Channel 7 will have a fit.

Unless the players grow up and put in effort the fixture is irrelevant.

We had a really good draw this year. With the exception of a few 6 day our arounds mid year, we had a dream run. We didn't have to leave Melbourne for nearly two months and we were handed multiple games against bottom teams to kick off and end our year. We had the easiest run home of any potential finalist and still managed to stuff it up. We have wasted a year, blown a great fixture and a chance to get finals experience into some young core players. Next year our fixture will be harder due to finishing higher, so the players had better improve drastically or we will linger around the middle of the table and fail yet again.

Actually we had a horrid run this year, not who we played, given the evenness of the competition.

In the table below (as long as it works), I've tried to show us against the top 8 teams and who had the most 6 day breaks (us!); who played against teams coming off a 6 day break (we played the least) and the amount of games against teams coming off a shorter break (we had the least games as well!).

Given this takes who we actually played out of it, just the "luck of the draw" it shows we had a pretty ordinary run, especially considering as a younger team you'd think longer breaks would be more beneficial.

Probably an advantage if we have less games starting as favourite. We just can't handle that expectation. I doubt next year will change. We played our BEST footy this year starting as underdogs.

• easy start with lots of games at the G
• horrendous middle section - all top teams, 6 day breaks and NT travel

[wheels fall off our season]

• lots of sunday games to finish
