Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The biggest slap in the face is that this year we broke the membership and attendance record. We as supporters are doing our bit, and no doubt in a weeks time they'll email us and ask us to renew our memberships. They'll keep asking us to come to games and donate to the club

Melbourne supporters have always pulled their weight even in the hardest times. It would be nice to just once be rewarded for all that effort and dedication, instead of being let down over and over and over again.

I love this club, and always will, but with each passing year I find myself pulling away just a little. It's just too exhausting and too time consuming to invest so much of your emotional energy in such an unstable relationship. If the MFC was a guy, they would be the worst boyfriend ever.

Me too Dazzle, actually, I've been getting worse as the day's gone on, disbelief from morning to lunch, depressed from lunch till heading home and now I'm just bloody angry!

And someone just yelled go eagles out the front of my place, probably saw the MFC sticker on the back of my car.............awesome.

The reality bus has just hit me. I was unable to attend the game as I was sitting in ICU with a very sick relative all weekend. I was only occasionally checking my phone but my thoughts were elsewhere. When a few people mentioned it to me, my response was "its only a game".

The enormity of it just hit me today and I'm very, very sad about how our season has ended. To make matters worse I just got a text from the relative (by marriage not blood) who I despise the most in this world rubbing my nose in it. I just want to try and put this season behind me but it really hurts.

I'll keep this short. The Melbourne Football Club need to learn how to become RUTHLESS!!

They had numerous chances to run up big scoring margins but decided to ease up.

This really cost us.

Where have I heard this before..........

I'm not worried at all. Not even a little bit. I was shattered after the second Roos loss cos that was the proof we're on a hiding to nothing this year. I would have preferred to get a final into the kids, but that's negligible.

The big picture here is the core list. We need a KP defender in the off season, and we're getting one. Or at least doing everything we can to get one. Aside from that, the core is well and truly there. Our only pressing concerns in coming years will be replacing Vince, Jones and Jordie who will all age out. Aside from that we can only improve.

It'll fall on deaf ears, but we can't possibly go backwards next year. We were smashed by injury all year. And we were never going to win one in 2017 anyway, so this sad time on demonland would have come at some point in the next few weeks anyway.

All's well folks. We/re looking good.

Our two weaknesses for mine are contested marking and outside skill. Hopefully we address these in the off season. Not sure Lever is the answer down back, he looks like a better version of OMac but he won't help us figure out how to deal with Grundy, Cox, Daniher, Brown, Franklin etc We need a gorilla minder down there.

As far as the year goes it's one of mixed emotions. Fantastic and memorable wins against the Crows, WCE and Pies but frustrating displays against Northx2, Freo and Pies.

Personally it was a great year as it was the first year my 4yo really started watching games and understanding what's going on. He's completely indoctrinated and full of hope for the future, he even said last night "doesn't matter maybe we can win 2 premierships next year" poor kid haha. Got his 2yo brother to join him next year as well.

All in all a very frustrating and disappointing end to an "almost" season. We are trending up though and have a young innovative coach with some experience under his belt now who will also learn over the off season. I'm still bullish about the future if this playing group especially guys like Oliver, Petracca, Viney and Hogan.

Yeah I certainly got worse as they day went on. Culminating in a terrible evening. I don't want to have to avoid football shows or any talk of football, how are you supposed to do that when you live in Melbourne?

I got asked by a Geelong friend to go to their game with them next Fri. THE MCG and its surroundings feel like Ground Zero right now and I want to be anywhere but there at the minute.

Very interesting. Great post. I don't necessarily agree, but still...

Contested marking I think we're in good shape. From Hogan and Tmac to lesser lights like Petracca, Hunt. Obviously a lot hinges on Weed but it's early days. I'm not saying we're in amazing shape or that we couldn't use a Benny Brown... but I certainly think there's more pressing concerns. For me it's outside skill (or skill in general) and pace.

I reckon Lever will be a great addition. Looking at him on the weekend he's really good man on man for a young kid. And having him and Hibberd floating in front of packs means TMac can go back to Gorilla slaying. He's being asked ot do way too much.

And yeah I agree... The year overall has been MASSIVELY positive. Noone seems to talk about it or realise we won 12 games and unearthed some absolute guns. Some of them were known entities that we didn't even know could be that good, like track and Oliver. We're in great shape.

Maybe it was the injuries to Hogan and Gawn but we got slaughtered time and again in contested marking in 2017. Interesting to see what moves the FD make or try and make in the off season. Pace and skill I agree with, seems those we have who do have pace are prone to turnovers or not the most skilled by foot, we need a player with that combo.

They are very very hard to get a hold of, of course. And they're also dead useless without the ball getters.

And yeah... I think we still could use a guy or two... A McGovern for example... But really, there are a lot of lists worse off than us. Take your point though.

Up early this morning, the dust has settled and I'm ready to move on.

Well, I thought I was until I saw this article https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-confidential-melbournes-early-email-to-members-about-finals-tickets-backfires-spectacularly/news-story/fcbc24b7907cd845bf747d2f7143e915

I struggle with the ridicule in this article.  I think every club that was in the running for finals were sent the 'Finals Ticket' email.  The 'cheese platter' taunt will go down as folklore along with 'snowfields'.  Taunts to be thrown at us at every opportunity by media, friends and family.

Perhaps what we lost more than the game on Saturday was Respect.  We lost the Respect a hard fought season had earnt.

From the @Older demonpost in the Nathan Jones thread, unsurprisingly it is taking a toll on players.  Its sad that one of our 'prominent players' wants to leave town and be alone.  Not even wanting the solace team mates can bring.

While I want the lost opportunity to motivate I certainly don't want it to scar.  Players must hear the 'mentally weak' accusations, especially when a club great leads the charge (which is his right and his job).  They must also hear the ridicule.

It is a small step to go from 'mentally weak' to 'mentally scarred'. I just hope the last few games of 2016 and 2017 don't cause a new round of 'mental scars' for players.  Hopefully, there is good support around the players, especially the young ones.

The idiot that took the cheese platter to the footy should be banned for life from all Demon games.

Utterly embarrassing. I've never eaten a cheese platter in my life, and this loser was eating one at the footy.

And who the hell eats cheese on its own anyway? Is this some weird Brighton thing?

A ban is a bit dramatic...

Anyway, the 'damage' is done.

For what it is worth the platter also had avocado, prosciutto etc.

Brighton?  Now you are buying into the silvertail myth about Melbourne supporters...

I hope all the other teams do lose there respect for the mfc,  so they dont see as coming,so many stupid poster's judging the season and whether the team improves or not on 1 game, 1 game never defines a season, end of last year Geelong belted us by 110 points, Richmond got belted by 115 points did both teams improve yes, our core group of player are all under 23 hogan, oliver, trac, brayshaw, hunt, etc. most are looking at 1 game far too much, once the dust settles and the clouds disappear we can all see clearly, if Adelaide won most of these post  would not exist, and  based on what, Adelaide winning and as making the finals on percentage, knee  jerkers is the lot of you

How many times did we kick 5 goals in the first quarter this year?

One (St Kilda, the second time).

How many times did we kick 4 goals in the first quarter?

Five (including the St Kilda game).

So that's 17 games this year where we kicked 3 goals or fewer in the first quarter.

For an interesting comparison, Carlton kicked 4+ goals in the first quarter 8 times.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
