Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I know its hindsight, but the Kelly and Lobbe deal for Tyson, Salem and Hunt, even though sensible at the time, is really starting to stink.

I know we might not have taken Lobbe but take it as it stands.

Fortunately though Salem and Hunt can improve their deficiencies, I have given up on Turnover Tyson, he is an absolute liability with the turnovers and goals he bleeds.

Im not here to start any trouble. Im also incredibly angry and upset. The thought of Melbourne playing finals made me feel like a little kid. I am giddy and excited. After yesterdays loss, I was pretty close to throwing the baby out with the bath water (Thank Chris Scott for my use of that saying). Realistically, the chances of us winning the premiership this year were never high, nor should they have been. But the fact we still are in with that chance should be a case for optimism.

I'm probably not making much sense to some of you. Im not making much sense to myself either. Im still trying to comprehend how I am currently feeling. But the key thing i think we should all remember is just how far we have come in 3 years. This is the first year we will finish with a positive W/L record for over a decade, the emergence (Not prospects) of some ripper young talent holds us in good stead.

Lets put this in a different light, we are sitting in finals contention and this year alone we have had:

Jesse Hogan's issues (His father, cancer, suspension, collar bone, hamstring)

Suspensions (Lewis, Vince, Bugg, Hogan etc)

Max Gawn missing approximately 3 months

Jack Viney's plantar fascia

Angus Brayshaw's concussions

I could keep listing thing after thing, but its not the point. The point is, we are a chance of playing week 1 of finals. That is bloody exciting. I know theres a chance we might miss out. Thats no different from the last 11 years then is it? The fact is we are actually able to re-load and have a real red hot go next year (Not the old "Next year will be our year line").

Things are never as bad or as good as they seem.

Team needed talent in 2014 ...All three have delivered, Both Salem & Tyson have been hit with injuries  & Hunt was a steal with still room to improve.. Hindsight  is one thing & who knows how Kelly would have developed in our club vs GWS which was far more advanced than us. Who knows we stil may get him LOL. Yesterdays performance is all about attitude & intensity!

Mate, we choked with our best team on the park and everything to play for.

I'm failing to see any positives from yesterday's debacle.

Like others, I felt even worse this morning than I did yesterday. It was the last thing I thought about before sleeping and the first thing I thought about when waking up, combined with a sick feeling in my stomach. The hangover combined with a restless sleep do wonders.

Not sure how I'll react when West Coast beat Adelaide. I'm trying to make peace with its inevitability.

I should scope out a dark corner somewhere in my house to crawl into.

Every team has injuries etc..... The games we lost Freo/Nth were winnable  & should have secured a top 8 spot  by now...

There is a lack of  mental toughness/high intensity which raises its ugly within our team, lets hope Goody can find the right players/leaders to erratic this or we will never be able to get to the standard of playing finals footy!

I was of similar thinking....you would need 13 wins. We needed 13 in all probability . We might sneak in on 12.

Both will only be making up the numbers.

So much discussion about making /not making finals when the truth of the matter was our first finals like test was today...and we lost.

I seriously doubt we have sufficient of the right stuff to go much further this year.

Goodwin failed dismally today imho. He had one job. Prepare a team to play to win. I saw no such thing in Red and Blue today.

The required intensity only showed itself around the 12 min mark of the final qtr. A switch flicked on, we lifted, we played good footy and then Collingwood flicked it back off.

Not good enough, not yet.

Cant play in the wind, cant lift to the occasion. Major shortcomings.

I think the publicity announcing our arrival has been a little premature.

Today, so Melbourne. The weekend waiting on others , so Melbourne.

We're doing a lot right, still doing a. lot wrong. Today was an epic fail all round.

Unfortunately I can't disagree with any of that BB.  I wish it were different all other matches pretty much going to script.  Then there was us....and West Coast??

But I still stand that to be a finals certainty we needed 13 wins.  That we did not....our fate now in the lap of the football gods...oh and those unbiased Umps out West ?

One thing I would do going forward, is to appoint a former rugby player to teach us how to tackle hard and effectively.

The failed one arm attempted tackles have to stop.

How can you teach them that, when they are ten steps back from their man?

All good mate, I meant Peter Wright. Can take a pack mark, reasonable shot on goal, can kick them from outside the arc.

Were not ready in 2016.....

I guess not ready in 2017!

Seriously 2017 will be very disappointing  if we don't play finals...

Whats concerning & needs addressing is lack of strong leaders to act on our lack if intensity very early on in the game...To go without a tackle for 11 mins in such an important game...Been the same theme against Nth & Freo games...Should have wrapt up a spot by now in the 8!

Yep, we're a top 4 quality side that has blown games against poor sides that will see us finish 9th. Disgraceful.

Dee you may have brought up a very important point.  Zone vs Man on Man when the opp gets a run on at any stage during a match.  This is one area Sydney thrives on and IMO does better than any other club right now.  Limiting their scoring opportunities through direct accountable one on one sustained pressure when the match is on the line and up for grabs.  Win the balance of these contests and you slowly take control of the match.

I feel like sometimes we play games trying not to lose; we rarely play to win. Examples of the latter are games against the teams nobody expects us to beat (Adelaide, West Coast, Hawthorn last year). Examples of the former? The last two weeks for starters.

That's a mental issue, IMO. Just one glance at the footy tonight -- only half time and Port Adelaide are up by 47 points against Gold Coast. They put away teams they're supposed to and they keep the foot down. We consistently blow these games or just barely crawl over the line. Is this because other clubs know we have a soft underbelly, or is this a mindset issue with players?

We should have a sports psychologist on the payroll because it's our biggest issue by a mile. Even against Port, Saints, Lions - we get up by 30-40 points then relax and let them back in the game. I just don't get it.

56yrs following the Dee's, I'm really [censored] off and angry, but I reckon I'm that ingrained with these kind of results. I really have come too expect this crap, all the effing defining moments, yeah right! Very frustrating to say the least. Im along way from convinced about our list, in saying that, there is some promising talent for sure. We can only hope for further improvement, which we seem too be doing, and keep on supporting the MFC. If we make the 8 "GO DEE'S", if not Goody can make the list watch the eagles v crows game every day of their break. Rant of frustration ova, sorry.

I just wish the club would understand it? Hope during the off season when they get back to training they practice it because it it cost us this year?

On a knife's edge DB!  If you look at the clearance numbers Adelaide should be 3 to 4 goals up (or more) so something is going horribly wrong for them in that first half on the outside.  Maybe the Umps.... the usual 10 to 5 frees in West Coast's favour.  Nothing knew there.  We are a dumb club relying on this result to go our way though.  Losing to Norf & Freo is coming back to haunt us.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
