saad goes for 2018 second rounder - great get for the peptides alongside smith and (potentially) stringer

Seems a pretty good get, if the bombers stay in the same position as this year that's only pick 28 for Saad.

Goes back to the point of draft picks being over-rated due to the uncertainty. Would the odds only be 50/50 that pick 28 would end up being a regular 22 player?

Is Kyle Langford worth a look? haven't seen much of EFC but showed a bit when I have.

Maybe opportunity drying up a bit with the influx of new players.

lachie weller has just asked for a trade from freo to gc17

That's weird given his brother left GC for the Saints.

His brother got delisted from GC. Saints gave him a life-line. Big difference.

You'd think the family would still be dirty on the Suns but they've been through a few different staff members since that was done.

What's interesting is the Weller's came from Tasmania and Lachie was never eligible as a GC academy player, then the family moved to Melbourne when Mav moved to the Saints. So there's not really a strong go home factor.

I think Lachie is saying move me to where I've got some high school mates - and give me a handsome pay rise to make it happen.

The AFL article mentions his girlfriend as a factor. Given that he’s only 21 and making career decisions around a girlfriend it may we’ll be that he’s a lunatic.

right, so west coast are (allegedly, according to kim hagdorn) looking to ship pick 13 out for two picks in the 20-30 range

pick 27 and 30 (for watts) for 13?

Been waiting for something like this.

Richmond will do the same kind of thing too.

They'd say anything to move to their club of choice, Don't read too much into it.

Would be smart to consider it, of course we have no idea who the club thinks they can pick up with the picks we already have.

Might be a way to delay the "must use a round 1 pick every x years" thing if the AFL actually decide to enforce it, and would then bring up the possibility of forward trading our 2019 first round pick next year.

Good idea in theory. If highly placed clubs are considering it, shouldn't that be telling us something about the supposedly shallow draft this year? Might be deeper than we keep getting told.

Kim trying to stay relevant.  This was mention this morning on SEN as a way Essendon can get a first round pick for the Bulldogs.  The point was West Coast need to inject youth If West Coast trade first Round pick their List Management team should be sacked.  Brisbane and Gold Coast that have academy picks are the clubs you target.

They might be after an additional pick to help with the Ah Chee trade, wouldn't be surprised if they were looking at getting Essendon's picks in the 20's to facilitate Stringer trade. Happy for us to jump in and trade our second rounders for pick 13, might get a decent outside mid with that pick.

I heard that Richmond knocked back an offer from Essendon for one of their first round picks.

Not a rumour, just a thought, but if West Coast happy to trade two 2nd round picks for pick 13, would this work:

Melbourne: Out Watts, 29 & 36 - In Pick 13 & 49

Port: Out Ah Chee, Pick 31, pick 49 - In Watts and Pick 36

West Coast: Out: Pick 13 - In Ah Chee, Pick 29 & Pick 31

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
