It makes sense given he's FA next year and the Dogs may be looking for better compo now. But didn't Roost it or whoever the rumour starter was say it wasn't him?

I doubt that we'll trade next years first.

With Stringer, Smith & Saad all wanting to be Bummers!

Surely, the Bummers will have too trade out players for draft picks or get involved in 3-way trades.

Is there any players the Dees will target from the Bummers?

Goodwin, McCartney and Egan have all been part of Bummers recently.

Zaharakis just signed but could be a player Essendon might trade turning 28 before the start of the season. Has value.

Cale Hooker is another one they could trade out turning 29 next week who has some value. I can see him going back to the backline though.

I would think defintely Myers, Colyer & Francis and to a lesser extent Laverde & Langford.

I think Laverde is an option for the Dees. But in saying that I think we get Balic.

How is it that the Bombers have managed to get 3 players to nominate them in Stringer, Smith and Saad?

Do they not have a salary cap, or are a number of Bombers about to be put up for trade or delisted.

As I said elsewhere, we should try a 3 way deal with the Bombers to get Francis to the Crows as part of the Lever deal.

Laverde and Balic are different types of player.

Bombers are going to be lightning moving the ball. I expect them to be a very high scoring team. Stringer, Smith & Saad are all burst players and will open the opposition up.

Oh yeah? Wait till we concuss them and break their jaws. Let's see how "lightning" they are then!

Dees need too get some quickness into the side asap.

All B grade players

Dodoro will offer up next to nothing for all 3 and throw his hands up in disgust when they all laugh at him.

It'll be interesting to see how they fit all 3 players in over the trade period.

Don't forget they have the salary cap as well as the compensation cap.

If they want those 3 players I hope we don't help them by trading for their rejects, in fact I hope no team does. Let them delist what they have to first and go from there.

Colyer has the speed we're looking for. In fact, I recall last year that any talk of losing him was met with 'we're [censored] if he goes' comments.

I read somewhere that Ess may try and trade their pick 11 to GCS  for their #19 and #22.  Use one for Stringer another for Smith.

GCS have:  2, 19, 22, 24, 34.

On the AFL points system Ess would come out way in front on that deal equivalent to a late 2nd round pick.  I doubt GCS would fall for it and they ask for something back should they want to do that deal.

There's talk of Aaron Francis (pick 5/6) two years ago going back to SA so they would get a good pick back.  So it sounds like he has a few things up his sleeve, which is no surprise...

There are several clubs trying to shuffle picks to get trades done.

You really think.. just laughable ? Interesting.

Personally i think theres a bit to this.

Jacks been setup ( partly with his own doings ) to be scapegoated out the door.

Looks like club had all but spent its il gotten gains on getting other players.

Shame Jack never got that memo.

Good bad or indifferent he just wants to play football for the Dees...and he can...up to club whether 1sts or magoos granted.

Little oversight there at AAMI

A lot of bullshlt emanating from MFC at the moment.

Hope they pay more attention to the rest of this summers dealing.

All Jack had to do was buy in, try and play contested football pretty basic really

Jack is where Jack decided to go

Please dont apply lipsick to the pig ok Jack is the problem here

Unless it's been shot down elsewhere I'm going with Libba as being the rumoured player. We'd wanna do our due diligence though.

I just can't see Sidebottom leaving the Pies.

It will be interesting to see how the Bombers pull it off.  As you say, trading down for a couple of picks may help them complete the deal, but you also hope the Suns don't just fall for it easily and actually push them to include something else.

I'll also be interested to see if they can fit all 3 within their salary cap and if they need to trade other players to do it.

I noticed you didn't actually say there was none at MFC ;)

Less BS than Demonland still leaves a lot of scope ... there is even a thread with "No BS..." in the title, but it is far more honoured in the breech than the observance in my experience ...

Bliclavs is more of a relief ruckman/wing though, would he qualify as a midfielder? More the hybrid type? I seriously hope it's someone like Dylan Shiel with the outside pace we desperately need. Him leaving also fits in the narrative of GWS not playing as a team all year because the place is a shambles with everyone wanting out.

Bliclavs had a stand out year but a poor one this season. My Geelong friend says that he lost a lot of mobility when he bulked up. He was previously a talented middle distance and steeplechase athlete. My friend feels his natural athleticism was sacrificed for bulk with a negative result on his game.

If we are getting rid of Watts for behaviour and cultural issues then there is no chance of Libba.

Macrae is my bet

Bombers are going to have to give up a bit this year and next year for that bunch.  Suspect if they think they are close to a tilt at the flag that they might take this option, and trade out players and picks.  Stringer is worth 15 first round picks (according to someone in Adelaide) - in reality probably at least a first rounder plus a schoolgirl and a TAB account, Smith and Saad second rounders.  I think they could get it all done, but they may need to move a few players out to allow them to do so.

Will they do #whateverittakes?

Move out all  players under twenty five with girlfriends.....

Essendon's young midfield is seriously impressive. They probably lack a bit of depth like we do, but I reckon they'll be pushing top 4 next year.

Yeah that's a scary and indigestible thought. If there is one  totally unpalatable position it is the possibility that EFC will be leapfrog the Demons next year.  It stirs up all the worst possible feelings.

No way. We wouldn't get Macrae, and if we did we would be buying high. He was close to their best player this year. It makes no sense for us to chase Macrae. We could not even nearly afford him now. Our best bet is to look for the next Macrae (before he had a break out this year).

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
