I've come across an interesting article which harnesses some raw data to allow a more detailed analysis. Essentially, it's created some new metrics using data that's publicly available (although, as the article says, not always in AFL-approved sources). It attempts to drill down in more detail into what raw statistics on their own don't say. For example, the data includes the following (which I won't explain, because it's all in the article) and then identifies those players who score the best (and worst). A few Melbourne players get mentioned, mostly on the good side:

• Giveaway Rate (clangers less free kicks against, divided by disposals)
• Around the Ground Work
• Tackle Rate (tackles divided by disposals)
• Metres Gained per Disposal
• Score Facilitation Score (total score involvements per game that were not goals, behinds or direct goal assists)

Pedo high and Hunt low in the Giveaway count is fair.

Love Jayden's run and carry but his disposal is often like an after thought. 

Given Hunt also is high for meters gained at least he moves the ball well upfield before giving it away...

Great article. Have to admit though the only ones I'd find myself applying are the Tackle rate and Metres gained ones. The Tackle rate one could really show who the ultimate two-way players are.

Giveaway rate is a good one but the description of it is how 'clean' a player's disposal is. I'd say its just how often they turn possession over.

I do wish Metres gained was included in MFC Stats sheet.

One of the first stats I look at are 1% ( Defenders ijnvolvement) and Effective disposal %.

I bet there is a Cyril Stat (which Mitch Hannan is working on) in taps to players ,not hanballs.

SHepherds seem to hjave gone out, but commentators aften remark on a player making it easier for another to take mark, clear the area etc.

Positive metres gained would be valuable. Kick it 50 metres to your player, positive 50. Versus kicking it 50 metres and turning it over.

Champion data already has that  (kick long) but only clubs can view these stats. Unsure why supporters cannot.

I'll take a wild guess and say "money". Champion Data's business model requires monetising the information collected. The more they give away for free, the less they can sell.
