Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Umpiring of MFC games very questionable

Deserves a good old chat.

Personally I think the whole AFL are corrupt and try to even up games to protect their image of an even competition, but...

Why are we so slaughtered with blatant frees?

Are we not playing to the rules?

Are we undisciplined?

I seriously question some umpiring decisions in recent seasons, Razor and Matt Nicholls are by far the worst against us. It's very bad and disappointing that one of the games best ruckmen, Gawn, gives up trying when he doesn't know whats happening. We always seem to be on the wrong end of the stick... It's not about totals, its about blatant frees not paid

2017 numbers: 382 frees for, 384 frees against.

Do you honestly think there's a deliberate biased against the club, or that umpiring is inconsistent and, as supporters, we remember the ones that go against us...

I think both tbh, umpiring this year across the board has been terrible but we have had some shocking ones, today and North x 2 off top of my head. Which is why I asked the questions, are we undisciplined etc.. It's not about totals, its about blatant frees not paid. Up until mid season, from memory we were 17-18 in league for frees for.

No agenda against any club    but pretty poor decisions today..  I usually do not even worry about umpiring but some Barry Crockers  today

I think they favor a team who is behind at different stages of a game to swing momentum and today it worked a treat, frees ended up 20/20 so as to not make it obvious, goody said in his presser they will be asking the afl what gawn did wrong today

I absolutely agree with you SFebey.  I have never been one to be critical of umpiring in all of my 50+ years of watching and playing footy.  My philosophy has always been to cop it on the chin and play on. BUT...I feel that there is a blatant bias against us with umpiring.  I tend to watch up to 6 games each weekend and there is no doubt that we are copping the sharp end of the stick compared to other teams.  Big Max really copped it today.  Generally, I am fairly subdued but my wife had to come into the TV room and tell me to "keep it down" when Billy Longer got a free kick after Max (apparently) pushed him out of the contest at a centre square bounce despite Longer's hand being in Maxy's face!

It is probably a ridiculous thing to even contemplate, but it seemed the umpires were playing St Kilda back into the game this afternoon.  Maybe I'm too one-eyed but surely I am not alone with these thoughts?

Funny you say this, all of my friends will say the same of me, I always used to tell them to stop blaming the umpires but this year has raised some questions IMO.

The numbers are irrelevant when they pay questionable frees at centre clearance during the pivotal points of the game opposed to dinky last quarter ones in junk time after we have taken a mark anyway or already played on to advantage.

they do this to just even up the numbers time and time again.

Knowing our luck we'll reach the grand final and have Razor and Nicholls officiate proceedings.

See that's my point, why is it so obvious with those two?! Blatant cheats. Nicholls is the worst, before the Port game he waved and winked to two Port fans in the crowd, I felt like vomiting. I asked the two supporters if they knew him and laughed and said no.

At one stage today it was 18-11 their way,  finished up 20 apiece .

I reckon we were gifted a few in the last qtr  to make up for some of the shockers earlier on.

See, that shouldn't bloody happen. Pay the frees for what they are stop the corruption. I tell ya, it exists!

8-0 in the third when the game was on the line.

Bunch of dinky ones in junk time to us after we had already taken a mark or taken advantage to even up the numbers.

If it's true that there is an umpiring bias then who pulls the strings? Gill, the umpires themselves or other factions within the AFL ? And for what reasons? Is there communications before and during the games to the umpires to direct the outcome?

I would love to see a conspiracy documentary about it.

P.S. Razor has no soul.

No but the standard is woeful.

There has to be something behind the scenes that makes the free kick count roughly even at the end of the match and the team falling behind gets some soft calls. You never ever hear or see umpire performance reviews, in the NBA all games have them

I think this is it. Kind of like in Mario cart where you get better items in the ?'s. Today rather than it being subtly paying a soft free, which they did a number of times, they also threw in a few random ruck infringements in a row to halt our centre clearance dominance.

One my friends that sits with us has one of those umpire radios, and she heard razor ray saying to Trac I'm watching you.

Once was bad enough but he said it again to Trac, would be the last player to any thing nasty to any one, so it came as a shock to all of us who were there.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
