Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

If we've got 22 blokes giving a red hot crack, then we're in with a strong chance. I'm pleased Goodwin is not just picking names, but looking at blokes who are busting a gut at the moment. I'm also delighted he's not scared to back himself in. If we think this is the biggest game we've had in the last 10 years (as I think it is), and Goody's making changes dropping talent now; then we've got somebody who will do the same thing in a prelim and not just hope that selecting talent that is not in form prevails.

FYI - goody is on the SEN "coaches box" extended interview segment tonight at 6pm Melbourne time. For those interstate, you'd be able to pick this up on the SEN app, or probably (not sure) will be podcast tomorrow.

Exactly.

And it sends a strong consistent message to the entire team that there are no favorites, no 'names', and we are not going to carry any passengers.

You can't have guys busting their gut not being given a chance ahead of guys who are not.

No idea if Watts is injured or just off, shold be dropped or not. But I do note that he was responsible for 20% of our admittedly few goals last week.  One he kicked himself and one he passed to Melksham while under serious pressure on the goal line.

Goodwin is more inclined to base player selection on effort & pressure acts. Watts' tackle tally over the last 3 weeks has been 3, 3 & 2 respectively. Tom McDonald who has also been playing in the forward line had 8 tackles alone just last week.

Also the 2nd and 3rd efforts are totally non-existent from Watts. (Unless you count flinging an arm out to tickle the oppositions knackers as a 2nd effort?)

I'm not a Watts basher.. I love the guy and I know he is an extremely talented player. But has not brought the intensity and pressure Goodwin expects from his players. He needs to be made an example out of.

Julian de Stoop just tweeted that there was no sign of Watts at training...

I guess that provides confirmation that he's carrying an injury??

Nah, he's still out clubbing.....

The club looks at a few metrics more than that Sue.

And another where he drew a free kick in the square and ANB took the advantage

Just on Watts, He has had a bulging disc in his back the last few weeks, which has severely hampered him (as it would anyone).

Hence why he isn't covering the ground as well and therefore playing like shizen.

If that's the case then why the hell play him ffs.

Let him rest he is too important to the club to risk him.

No Watts and Stretch at training. If Casey players for this week end are not there, Interchange is out of Maynard, Weideman, Brayshaw, Wagner and Harmes

So based on that the emergency should be out of Wagner, Weideman and Brayshaw and the others will be playing. My guess would be Brayshaw and Weideman in and Wagner emergency. Based on a like for like in out

I can't believe what I am reading here. We need to win the next three games to play finals, and people would rather have Weideman in the side than Watts?

Have any of you seen Weideman play, or are just looking at his draft number? The guy is an irregular contributor at VFL level, and is probably two years off being able to have an impact at AFL level. He doesn't chase, doesn't tackle, doesn't contest on the ground. His one trick is marking, and the chance of him receiving decent delivery, based on the past two weeks, is negligible.

Watts, on the other hand, is the best kick at the club, and has the best football brain at the club. He is about the only player in that forward line I have any confidence in with ball in hand.

Frost & Salem have both been bitterly disappointing in the past month, and it is hard to argue with their demotion. That said, we haven't replaced Frost which leads to yet another highly unbalanced team. Goodwin's selection and coaching has gotten worse as the season has progressed, and is probably our biggest issue at the moment.

I hope Brayshaw plays, because at least you know he can kick properly. Not sure why Wagner is anywhere near this team - he is not AFL standard. Maynard probably gets a second game, but I don't see the point of difference that he offers in a midfield full of plodders who would rather handball than kick.

Watts is definitely playing injured! The club would be managing his injury and if he gets through training today and is Ok I would expect him to play. Weeds in also to stretch the St Kilda Forward line.

Final bench if Watts Plays  Weeds, Watts, Gus, Maynard

Outside of Hannan, surely they cant be serious about any of the other ins.  If so the Saints will be licking their chops.

While i'm happy to see Brayshaw named and on the recovery trail and Ben Ken pushing for his first selection for the year, the others named have shown nothing at senior level when given a chance this year and are just too far off it to worry any decent opposition.  All their selection will do will give the opposition more confidence.

A pitty Vanders was unable to get back.  Miss his hardness and pressure up forward and provides another occasional avenue to goal.

And if Spencil wasn't picked in the last 4 weeks or so, with Maxy terribly out of form and especially as an ideal crash/bash foil for Mummy last week IMO, then he basically has no chance of ever getting selected unless Maxy goes down again.  Should be on the trade table at years end as he is just clogging the list going forward.  Should have been played for Maxy's first two matches back also.  Maxy was far from ready and severely under done and needed at least a game and a half at Casey to find some form and match fitness prior to returning.

Just came back from training. Good to see the boys work on ball movement from stoppages and coming out of the backline.

I don't think I saw garlett...? Can anyone else confirm if he was there. I am hoping that was just an injury prevention thing as he is incredibly important to our forwardline mix.

TMac trained as a backline player on Weids in the main session which tells me he will go back with Pederson playing forward. Pedo was doing some ruck drills with Gawn, which seems to confirm that. Doesn't say they won't mix that around depending on how we are going.

Brayshaw was getting some pointers from Lewis on positioning in the backline, so see him playing half back with some time in the midfield.

My guess would be that Wagner is the emergency at this stage.

Also interested to see Melksham in the centre of he ground positioning himself in a tagging role on Oliver in some of the drills...could he be preparing for a Jack Stevens role this weekend. Fox Footy preview suggested we have a tagger on Jack Stevens who was well held for 3 quarters against WCE until he had 11 touches in the last and helped the saints get home.

I will be interested to get some thoughts from the others who were there at training. I wasn't there the whole time so could have missed a bit.

If we win it will be a terrific decision by Goodwin.

If we lose it'll be the worst decision ever by Goodwin

Sometimes you just can't win whether you're the player or the coach.

150 games in and we are still having this conversation.

I felt that last year was a good start for Jack. But really? A 150 game player being dropped to the two's for non performance? This is getting tiresome.

Something must have happened in the last 24 hours to get Goody's nose out of joint. If not, why was he not included in the initial set of omissions?

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
