Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Can someone please give a summary

The article is primarily about the Bombers heavily considering Peter Wright from the Suns.

There are 2 lines about their interest in Brown which do not in any way provide any new information or cause for concern.

“Essendon is considering North Melbourne key forward Ben Brown, who is also in discussions with the Demons about a fresh start.

”The Demons are the frontrunners to land Brown in exchange for a mid-round pick.”

A mid (first) round pick as opposed to a 2nd rounder?

You attract an intelligent crowd, with your comedy. The guy who laughed at your comment can’t even spell his screen name correctly (literally).

It was trying to allude to the common perception that Jon Ralph hardly has anything ground-breaking and it would probably be a nothing article.

I'm glad it gave a few a laugh.

We clearly don't share the same sense of humour but I didn't set out to offend you.

It amazes me that Ben Brown who's stats are as good or better than Jeremy Camerons over a period of time could somehow be an option for pick 23.

Would love him at the Dees but it does feel like there is something there that isn't common knowledge

North pushing out the door is just confusing everyone.  They've really shot themselves in the foot with how they've devalued Brown this year.

The view that Brown is limited in how he wins the ball (well documented in this thread) is reasonably wide spread, but the stats don't lie either. It may mean we have to adjust how we play in order to capitalise on those strengths.

I think the view is that players who win the ball in the air, but aren't that good on the ground and/or apply great tackling pressure, can be a liability. Cameron's athleticism and ability on the ground means he can fit in a forward line alongside almost any player. Brown is more of a focal point and needs players around him to win ground balls and apply pressure.

Also Brown's injury and form are a concern.

In saying all this, #23 for Brown would be a great value trade given he is one of the best goal scorers in the AFL.

All good moon, just a little gag to pass the time..

In all seriousness though, I am a little excited of having Brown potentially playing for us in 2020.

If Brown has made up his mind up to come to us is there any reason why he cant nominate us now like other players have?

I know our Pick 23 has been widely mooted as the potential or probable pick to be used for the for Brown, just wanted to get peoples thoughts on here if they'd be happy if we gave over next year's first round pick for Brown?

There's no question that North have lost a lot of their bargaining power given they've publicly told Brown he's not a required player and if all reports are true and that Brown will likely nominate us it also puts more of the onus on them to get it done. A lot of the recent talk is that everyone is in disbelief that North could let him go for anything less than a 1st round given he's kicked 60+ goals 3 out of the last 4 years.

Obviously we'd all be hoping 23 gets it done, but if another club say Essendon or Collingwood came circling offering a better draft hand and more money for Brown, I think I'd be comfortable letting next year's 1st pick going with maybe some other later picks coming back to ensure we got this guy coming to our club.

That's absolutely true, DOX, and might happen very soon, but personally I'm very happy with a club that gets things done quietly than foghorns it out clumsily. eg. Collingwood with Adams.

Of course, i'm assuming Brown has chosen MFC

Personally i wouldn't. I think next year we could slide anywhere from 11th to 15th so a first round pick would be overs.

But thats because we will surely get more injuries next year than we did this year and Simon running the show again doesn't instill any confidence.

Brown will nominate his club and a deal will be done. Other clubs sniffing around won't really change the negotiation, as no club will want to pay much more than #23 anyway.

Next years first round pick should be on the table, but we would want to get something back in a deal for Brown.

What about mfc 2021 first round pick (say, 7-10) for Brown and 2020 pick we traded to North (currently 9, but likely to end up around 15 or 16 with academy, f/s and fa compo picks). We could throw in a 3rd rounder (tmac?) as well to sweeten the deal.

Then trade this pick from North plus something else (Preuss or future selection?) for a pick high enough to land McCrae, if the North pick isn't considered high enough

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
