Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN

How many years would he want?

Would imagine he and management would push for 4, or 3 with a 4th year trigger. Seemed to be the sticking point at North so no doubt we'd be offering him 4 years.

This time last year he would be a mid 1st round pick.  Not sure the injury downgrades his trade value much lower than #23.  Also there may be 'steak knives''/later pick swaps involved.

I don't know but I would think more. What's Kennedy worth, age forgiving, or Cameron?

Agreed which is why I don't get people thinking #23 is 'overs'.

Pick 23 is a bargain.

If that's all we have to pay to get a proven ready-made KPF who has performed better than any forward we've had since Neitz, then it's a [censored] bargain.

This one must be getting close now!

If the medical checks out then I see no reason why he can’t get back to his best.

Pick 23 is a steal for a 28 year old Coleman medalist. If North want a bit more to get the trade done then give it to them. They badly need players so why not throw in OMac or another of our fringe players

I hope he nominates us. I genuinely feel this could be a transformative trade. I’ll be absolutely stoked if it happens.

Don’t stuff around with this MFC. Just get it done.

The last 2 years our leading goal kickers have barely slotted 20 for the year.

If Brown plays at 50% capacity he still kicks 30.

How people don't get that, I will never know.

Regarding the injury, if he was in dispute with North about how he was being treated, there is no way he would be rushing back from surgery. I think it's likely just two parties coming to the end of a relationship midway through the year and both acting accordingly

Can easily be fine in draft selective recruiting of B+ players ie day a Lyons or similar but outside runner Narkle ?
whu nit Stephenson as a mid? Although a bit timid perhaps!

We have limited picks and limited salary cap space, I don’t think we can’t just use them on marginal upgrades.

Bringing Brown in will cost us Weideman’s spot in the side, a 2nd round pick and I’d imagine 600k or so.

If we avoid Brown we could keep Weid, draft a 10 year player to add to the team and have salary cap space to make a serious play at Merrett or Kelly - the missing pieces of the midfield puzzle.

I think if we bring Brown in we’ll stuff around trying to play 3 talls and then eventually settle on one of Brown or Weid and won’t be significantly better.

There’s so many other positions to improve and if we invest in hard running skillful players the goals will come.

I love Weid and think he is developing nicely but I would take Brown over him every day of the week for 2021. That said I think they will play well in the same forwardline together with LJ playing a roaming role pushing up across half forward/wing

If anyone's position is in danger in the forwardline it would be Fritsch for mine. I would prefer a Brown/Weid/LJ forwardline over Weid/LJ/Fritsch.

Why can't D/L ers Get it through their thi.k skulls that Fritsch position is NOT in danger! We do  not have to not recruit a TALL forward to suddenly have to eliminate Fritta  our best forward  by far in 2019 and 2020 ( Ahead of even Trac) as he is an A grader IF he develops to his full potential as he has indicated he wants to on our website when resigned. Recognising flaws etc and improvements needed is the start that Trac and May made and Bayley is now on that train snd look out. 40 goals 25 behind is a realistic target fir 2021.

Please tell me Who else other than Weid Ben Brown Tmac in 2018 form and fitness and Trac playing 75% forward are capable of that!

Brown Weid  with Jacko given free reign plus Fritta  and 3 small / mediums are fine if in good form and supply as has been with greater skill Are fine fir 2021.

Allowing Max Trac Clarry Angus snd Jack plus Harmes and Sparrow a resting role this seems fine In most conditions and flexible in style and  for wet and windy conditions ( Cairns or Hobart ) also.

Adding a Coleman medalist is not a marginal gain. He'll be replacing TMac. Big upgrade imv.

Move TMac on to free up some cap (easier said than done i know)

Brown and Weid can absolutely play in the same forward line. I'm struggling to understand the logic for thinking they won;t

we've drafted a 10 year player already. Luke Jackson. As a KP player in his second year i don;t want to see him overplayed and run into the ground. Which is another reason to bring in Brown. Leave LJ to play in the VFL and manage his games in the senior side. Let him develop in his own time.

Our midfield can improve with better coaching which i hope will be addressed in the review. Kelly and Merrett are very good players but not game changers for us in the same way i think Brown can be.

As others have noted, assuming all is fine with the medical, then Brown at this price is a steal!

Will be interesting how our forwardline would look in 2021.  I'd have fritsch playing further up in Melksham's role (who on form this year is no longer best 22).  Fritsch would still kick a few but could be one of the important link men with the final kick inside 50.

But if we are going to have Brown and Weid playing forward, then I think we will need another speedy pressure forward to help kozzie - can bedform / hunt play this role?  Or is there someone else we can bring in.

I'd suggest we would be pushing GWS or whomever for a 2nd rounder for Pruess and I think we should get it given he is contracted and clubs some clubs are in need of a senior ready to go ruckman. Pruess for Brown would be a huge win IMHO

Corr to North

2nd road pick compo to GWS

GWS compo pick to Melb - Pruess to GWS

Compo pick to North - Brown to Mleb

The thing is, even if Brown has an okay year, and kicks say 30 it means Weid gets the second defender, so his output should improve. and Jackson/Fritsch on the 3rd/4th defenders is dangerous as well. we just need to make sure we can get enough forward 50 tackles with that setup

There's not another successful side in the comp that plays 2 big key forwards who don't defend and don't get up the ground. Every coach worth their salt values defensive pressure in the forward line, it's the only way to stop other teams ball movement and create forward half scoring chances.

Jackson shouldn't be overplayed but he's ready to play. He's not a skinny kid (he's already 95kg) and he already has a great tank. With longer quarters he'll have to ruck more next year too. Neither Brown or Weid ruck, nor would we want them too. I wasn't talking about key forwards either, let's draft another Rivers.

There's only so far any coaching can take a midfield full of thumpers. We need variety. Geelong have Mitch Duncan. Richmond have Edwards or Bolton. We need a guy to get the handballs from our inside mids.

Want to bet? Jackson's going to play, he'll back up ruck and he's too talented not to contribute forward.

Goodwin's been talking for years about trying 3 big forwards and every time he tries it for a week or two he goes straight back to playing smaller and even at times this year just playing the 1 tall target.

I don't think Fritsch can play forward with the other three unfortunately, we'll need small crumbers who can lock the pill in

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
