Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What’s your opinion on the thread topic please?

Pros: Deadeye Infront of goal, can pinch hit in the ruck.

Cons: If he doesn't get a free kick or lace out delivery he is a liability, neither of which come in abundance at MFC. Would cost us the farm, the kitchen sink and perhaps some magic beans. If anyone thinks we overpaid for May or Lever then they'd probably have a brain aneurysm looking at any realistic trade for Brown

Ben Brown at 26yo is worth more than  pick 3 in fact  l couldn't see the Roos parting with a multiple of 1st rounds.

Maybe when Ben is 32yo and on his way out.

Moonshadow  suggested  J Patton as GWS have a habit of giving  bargains away.  He is worth a shot as a last minute special.

This would be a diabolical decision by our club. This bloke is one poor landing away from having a career ending knee injury. This is one of the main reasons he wasn't drafted until he was 21 and until pick 47 in that draft.

Also as some have mentioned already in this thread, better delivery into the forward line would need to be looked at before we go hunting for more key forwards for our midfield to miss.

North are in an interesting position. They just sacked their coach, have an average list at best with some ageing leaders and are again going to finish in no-man’s land on the ladder. They face a similar prospect next year if they don’t make a few radical list management decisions. Getting in a new coach (Rhys Shaw or whoever) buys them some time to bottom out a bit to get the gun youngsters in necessary to do a proper rebuild and make their club relevant again.

If we offer them pick 3 and our 2020 first rounder for Brown with say a second rounder coming back the other way, they will definitely look at it. We need to back ourselves in to rise up into the top 8 next season.

Its radical and it will frighten the naysayers and the conservatives, but both clubs - us and North - need to get on the front foot in the off season or face more years in the wilderness. Can we really have Dees supporters heading to the G in 2020 with NOTHING to get excited about in the forward 50? It doesn’t bear thinking about.

A deal can be done if we have the cojones to do it. I think a lot of our supporters are in denial about our situation. It’s dire. We’ve simply got to roll the dice.

It's not going to happen. I'd rather get Roughhead from Hawthorn on a one year playing  deal with a coaching gig tied in. He can spend the year teaching TMAC  and Weed proper forward craft. You can laugh and scoff at the idea., but it makes a lot of sense

that's definitely worth thinking about

So we head to the G in 2020 to watch a geriatric Roughead trying to teach Weid how to mark a footy? How exciting.

Top eight here we come ?

We can't trade both this year's first rounder and next year's. We have to use one of them.

That’s true. Pick 3 and a player then. Or pick 3 & 21. Where there’s a will there’s a way.

So to clarify then, in another thread you're bemoaning our under 23 talent, but you want to now trade both our first round and second round picks for a player who will soon be 27? Doesn't add up mate.

Not a bad idea at all

when did we last have a real Key Forward?

12 years

It’s time

Hogan in his first 2 years was our genuine key forward. Then after that he stopped crashing into packs and almost turned himself into a roaming 3rd tall in the Luke Bruest type..

Frustrated me that we changed his game style from a power forward to someone who wanted cheap joe the gooses.

In saying that I'd still take him back..

Hoges was a mobile forward played in the key position

he was never comfortable there.

I miss him too, but i would love a true key forward.

Priorities. Without a proper avenue to goal we will be a basket case in 2020.

Recruiting of youth is therefore going to have to be very sharp over the next three seasons. Not just from early picks but right throughout rounds 3 and 4 of drafts and into the rookie and preseason drafts as well. Taylor’s track record over five seasons is horrendous in this area.

He will be gone by October. Pert is no dummy.

That's unfair, a few people have similarly said this will happen

That would be typical. We finish the season to qualify for pick 2 & end up facing a compromised draft to prop up the AFL's love child up north.

This is unlikely to happen. We have to get past that "this guy will fix our problem" mentality. If North are willing to trade him I would suspect there is something wrong. Brown has not had a great season and is getting older. I believe he is on a long term contract. I do not believe we are able to trade our first round this season nor is it in our best interest. Matsuo seems to be just seeking attention and has too much time on his hands.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
