Just heard on the news that James Hird has been invited by the AFL to hand over Norms medal at this years grand final.

What a disgrace

When u consider the afl and commentators treated the dons like a team of returning champions after their ban its no surprise that this has happened.

I amazed they haven't asked him to present the cup and sing at half time.

Bunch of tosses.

What a bloody disgrace - Gil, you have really lost the plot.  What in the world does Hird know about you that would have you brown-nosing him like that?

Like goofy, I thought that he was being asked to return his one.

Is today April 1st somewhere in the world?

If I didn't love the Dees so much I wouldn't follow the game. The AFL are trying to keep ESS fans involved until they can get them playing finals again, they are fkd.

Wow. Can't wait. A packed stadium of dyed-in-the-wool footy fans many of whom will have been on the turps all day. Do you reckon they will boo him?

"Since 2004, the AFL has been inviting previous medallists to present the medal, starting with Wayne Harmes, who had not had the opportunity to present the Norm Smith Medal. Working through them in year order, James is the next eligible medallist," he said.

In recent years Adelaide Crows star Andrew McLeod, who won the medal in 1997-98, presented the medal to Hawthorn's Cyril Rioli in 2015.

Last year, 1999 winner Shannon Grant handed it to Western Bulldogs runner Jason Johannisen.

The AFL has not yet been notified if Hird will take up the opportunity."

They had Wayne Carey present Majak Daw with an award minutes after acknowledging Jimmy Bartel's work with domestic violence on Brownlow night. So this comes as no surprise to me.

But equally as stomach churning.

Disgusting. The AFL have a tin ear with this sort of stuff. The public will take out their vengeance and I feel sorry for the recipient who will have perhaps his greatest momengt tarnished.

Haha, saw this on the AFL site and laughed at the storm it would create here. Personally I don't have a problem with it given he did win the medal and is next in line to present. It would be different if the AFL singled him out to award the medal.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
