Stretch has been poor for two weeks, as others have stated.

Kent was pretty average last week but has clearly been given one more week like Stretch was given.

Goody won't unsettle the team too much by taking out a player that performs poorly after only one week. White was an exception perhaps because positionally, he's not very versatile and Wagner is virtually the same player. Smith on the other hand has a different mix of attributes.

I like that JKH has come in for Stretch, I certainly rate him higher than Billy. I reckon supporters have jumped off the JKH-train far too early given the fact he has been playing VFL and has been injury-savaged prior but his form has been super solid and he's a very smart player who offers more than Stretch does imo

For an outside player, Billy is fairly average. His disposal isn't damaging but rather neat and he's not a line breaker in terms of pace. I don't really know what the future holds for him.

I'm choosing to ignore how much Stretch has reminded me of Toumpas the last couple of weeks.

Have never jumped off JKH completely, although he'd want to perform almost immeasurably better than he has in his AFL appearances so far this year. I do like that Goodwin has some degree of faith in him.

Viral meningitis,  and his first game back is in the Darwin conditions.

They will be playing a man down.

It put me in hospital for a couple of weeks in an isolated room. I bet he can't play.

I wouldn't be surprised if Trengove has already told the club he's retired and just wants to play out the year and help the younger players coming through in the vfl, similar to Cross a few years back

More like the club told him that he won't be needed for next year and therefore no need to give him a game in front of a listed player.

Sounds like mind games. Will force us to play an extra tall as backup and then pull him from the side last minute.

I don't know that Trengove will retire. He does well at this level, both as a player but especially in terms of leadership. Going forward, dropping down to something like SANFL would give him a career and a decent income as a footballer. If he dropped down a further level, he'd be a Rolls Royce as a playing coach ... which is eventually where his future probably lies. Time to start the long-term Goodwin succession plan?

If Lynch got on the plane (which he did) then he'll be playing.

No way would they fly him all the way up there and not play him.

Well I'll be very interested to see how he goes, predicting a terrible 2nd half.

Interesting comments 'steve'.

I think Stretch has gone backwards this year but he's a young player and will be given time.

JKH has had injury problems to date but he hasn't shown much to inspire at AFL level.

It's a big couple of week coming up for him. He will need to be a lot cleaner with his ball handling and smarter with his decision making.

The interesting part for me is that as you really value disposal.

JKH has been poor in this area of his game.

Always rated JKH's draft highlights - looked like a polished mid. We've always played him as a forward in the AFL side. Keen to see him get a run as more of a midfielder

Look I think everyone can agree the JKH was very underwhelming when he came in earlier this year, he has since had to work VERY hard to win his spot back in the team. Sometimes that kind of thing can really make a player because the hard work is paid back to them.

He will play in the middle which is his natural position not in the forward line and let's see how he does.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
