The beauty of this now is the games against the crows and power are basically free hits as no one expects us to win without jones and Viney. If we win one or both we are a massive chance for top 4

As I said in the gameday thread, good teams find ways to win when they are playing poorly.  This was our game today.

Carlton beat us in many statistical areas today, but we constantly found ways to kick crucial goals and keep up the scoreboard pressure when we needed it the most.  That was the difference today.  Miss a few shots on goal and it halts our momentum and take away our confidence.  

We will have more scrappy games to come with some of our midfield generals out, and we are also going to play better sides in the next fortnight, but this shows the playing group that we can win under ANY circumstances.  It creates belief in the playing group and an understanding that we can beat ANYONE.

Wow.  Lewis, Vince and Stretch were all liabilities.

Severly missed Jones, Viney, Tyson and Watts.

Hogan - passenger for most if the day, but welcome back.

We need some poise - so we know when to play like crazy men, and when to set things up.  Lack of poise nearly cost us that game.

Happy with this result. With the outs this was a huge danger game. The blues were up for it because they knew they were a great chance.

A few there though on thin ice: Hannan, Stretch, Kent and Smith all fairly ineffective. It's all very well saying injuries give other players a chance to step up, but they need to (be able to) step up.

 

Harsh on Hannan and Kent.

Hannan is so creative and damaging, but perhaps you remember the occasional error more?

Kent has physical presence and was a bit inconsistent, but much better than earlier in the year

Melksham, Smith and Stretch will be sweating though...

Agree re Kent, and Stretch.

Hannan did OK, and cut Smith some slack as he hasn't played for a long time.  IMVHO he was rushed back.

Will be interesting as our top 22 come back.

I don't know whose idea it was but that sideways kick to Lewis at the end was pure genious.  A shot at goal and a miss gives them the chance to run down the other end and kick a goal.  Instead Lewis could take another 30 seconds off the clock.

Neal bullens best game for the club. Really stepped up with the outs we have. 

Harmes also stepped up.

It should also be mentioned that we needed some of our fringe players to step up today and fill the void that Tyson, Jones and Viney have left in our midfield.

I thought ANB did this pretty well today.  25 touches, 2 goals and he consistently got himself into the right positions all day.  He isn't the greatest kick of the footy but he knows how to find it and he was the one to step up for us today.

Lewis, Vince and Melksham all did their bit as well, with Melksham and Lewis showing great leadership and experience by kicking some very crucial goals for us in the last term when we really needed them.

I can't wait to see Watts & Tyson back in. Unfortunately Vince is starting to look like a serious liability with the ball in hand. His decision making and kicking were really questionable on a couple of occasions. Gifted them one goal and nearly a second when he kicked to a carlton player in the middle of the ground and opened us up.
