Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 16

Looking at this team we have a good settled defence that has performed well over the season except last week when the midfield went missing and, with the addition of Hogan and Garlett, the forwards look well balanced and potent. good flexibility in the forward group with TMac and Pedo both able to relieve in the ruck or go back to bolster the defence.

Feeling much more confident now of being only one win less after this weeks round than all of last season.

Time to erase the memories of that game against Carlton last year.

Good teams win these games.

Cannot see the weed playing but by being named he is being sent the message that he is on track. Would not be surprised to see him play in Darwin.

Trenners will play.. what position he will play is the question. Go Jack.

This really is a season defining game

I agree, although with Tom Mac and Pedersen down there, both who are capable of clunking marks and kicking goals, it gives us more options than normal.  Their back line outside of Casboult is not particularly tall or strong so we can leave them both down there.

The big test will be making sure we get it down there often enough.  It's nice to see us playing a little taller now as we've missed it!

Jones has come in the last few weeks and is playing good footy for them down back...His real issue is no tank, I expect us to move around a bit down forward and exhaust him into submission..

You know what I am absolutely not looking forward to?

The absolute moronic few living under a rock Carlton supporters who will boo Jesse for his hit on Rowe earlier in the season.

Max might try to palm a few to JT to get him involved, get the crowd involved.Id love him to get a few touches early.

If the tackling efforts are back up we should be in it all day.

We have a bit more class off half back and up forward.

I don't rate Gibbs. Oliver will beat their best.

Max to pants Kruezer.

Garlett will cause Havoc.

Hogan back is huge and Hannan will bob up.

We should win,we should have too much class, even with our outs.

Need a whole team effort but I think we can win.

They have their injuries as well so no excuses from us if we lose.

JT has been emerg. the last couple of weeks.

I don't think anything will change.

I have been a supporter of Kent, but his last game in the ones was an absolute shocker.

JKH has always been hit and miss but his last 5 games in the 2's has been fantastic.

I'd like to see the Ins Hogan, Garlett,  JKH  Smith

They'll boo Lewis even louder...can't touch their golden boy "Crippa"!  A few of their fans reckon ours have become arrogant in recent weeks.  Pot Kettle Black!

It's a worry though I can remember pinning hopes and dreams on 19yr olds alot in the past 10 years

Yep - but this time it's only temporary. Normally he'd have Tyson, Viney and Jones sharing the heavy lifting.

Really time for Lewis to up his game here I think.

Joel Smith. This excites me.

Final bench preference -   Smith,  JKH, Trengove, Stretch

Play JKH on the ball where he has been dominating at Casey.

Dont think they will have Smith in with Hogan sneaking into the selection.

Liam Jones has been the best defender in the comp in the last 3 weeks, we'll need plenty of "lowering the eyes" this week to find someone. High and long and LJ will pick if off a first up Hogs.

I'm not coming into this game with thoughts x (our player) will smash y or anything like that. The blues have played some good games this year and deserve respect. We had a fairly close to full strength team the last time we played and it was far from a convincing win. In face Cripps was killing us before Lewis knocked him around, it cost him 3 weeks and cost us matches we should've won.

But having said that while our midfield is severely diminished, our defence has been improving and our forwards will welcome back two of our most prolific goal kickers. Gawn will be better after a couple of weeks match fitness as well.

I think we should play Vince in a shut down role on Cripps, and keep Lewis in the half back line. Those coming in are going to have to play like men possessed, and their no 1 mission (aside from good skills and such) should be to harass. That was the major difference between us and Sydney last week, they gave us zero opportunity to play our game because we had no time with the ball.

I'm one that is hoping to see Trenners given a chance this week. It really is the ideal opportunity for him, play him as an extractor in Tyson's role. Let's see what he's got.

I haven't seen Carlton play much lately. Has he actually been the best defender in the comp, or just the hyperbolic type "best in the comp" that people brand crud players with when they suddenly and unexpectedly become competent after a lot of years of duddery?

They force teams into kicking bombs into the forward line and it makes Jones look like Glen Jakovich.

If we do the same to Hogan and Pedersen - he will peel off and do what he has been doing really well.

So it's hyperbole but enough to [censored] us over.

Gawn and Hogan both in. Pedo in. Only one big forward in the opposition team. OMac in the starting 18.

End of conversation about Omac's place in the side and the last of the myths debunked.

The coaching staff making it crystal clear how highly they rate a player more than one Demonland poster said was not up to AFL standard.

I wouldn't mind some of the more trenchant  Omac knockers admitting they got it wrong. Wont hold my breath.

I agree 100% with this. we will need the rotations through the midfield to keep the pressure on the Carlton midfield. One of Smith or Wagner may be included to slot into the back 6 to release Lewis or Vince for a rotation into the midfield.

B: Michael Hibberd, Oscar McDonald, Neville Jetta

HB: Jordan Lewis, Sam Frost, Bernie Vince

C: Jayden Hunt, Christian Petracca, Mitch Hannan

HF: James Harmes, Cam Pedersen, Alex Neal-Bullen

F: Jeff Garlett, Jesse Hogan, Tom McDonald

Foll: Max Gawn, Clayton Oliver, Jake Melksham

I/C (from): Billy Stretch, Jack Trengove, Dean Kent, Jay Kennedy-Harris, Josh Wagner, Sam Weideman, Joel Smith

Midfield, with the IC above, will have the option of 14 players that could get a run in the midfield during the game. this does not include throwing a big body in there every now and then such as Tmac or Hogan.

Personally I love it when I see Hogan lining up at a center bounce.

Personally I think that whilst we have had a settled defence recently, last week v Swans we had an unsettled defence, with two inclusions instead of the mandatory one (for Salem).  This was probably more detrimental than our failure to win the midfield (though the loss of Viney at half time was the nail in the coffin)

Have we had an update from the Carlscum doc as to how this dreadful jaw fracture is healing?

So he has an easy role, which has suited him, in a well structured side. Got it.

The Liam Jones I knew was a complete flop - was having a hard time reconciling this best (anything) in the comp talk.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
