I reckon that's another reason the AFL cracking down on off ball hits to the head.

Tbh Im not 100% over the hows and whens.  AFL Victoria in 2008 brought in an edict that should anyone accumulate a 16 games suspension aggregate  would automatically be deregistered.

He's now got 21. That means hes had 7 games tally prior ( since this recent was 14 games )

He was suspended for 3 games earlier in the year . I'm not au fait with the  other 4 to be truthful but you would have to start asking some questions

When was he first employed by the AFL?  I thought I heard he had been there for 10 years?

If it is 10, that means that by the time you take away the 14 week suspension from this week, as well as the 3 games from earlier this year, that since 2008, he'd been suspended for a total of 4 weeks.

Is 4 weeks suspension over a 10 year period enough to ask questions at a job interview?  Wouldn't have thought.

Gill mentions 10 years work in his presser.

So, going back to his original job interview (approx 2007), I doubt after the asked about his strengths, that they would've asked how many weeks he has been rubbed out for in his career.  Further to that, since he started at the AFL (2007), up until the end of the 2016 season, he's been rubbed out for a total of 4 weeks.  4 weeks is 9 years.

I would've started asking questions about his onfield behaviour about Monday of this week, and not a moment earlier (that's if you want to be realistic about it).

Thought that you may have been suggesting a sentence...are you Mr Justice Chazz, by any chance?

As I understand it for the police to be involved someone has to make a complaint and it would seem that the other player involved has done just that.

Pretty extreme action but it, on the face of it, was a pretty extreme assault.

Ali's Linkedin describes his tenure in that 'previous'  position as 4-10

Not aware of what he was doing prior (npi)

He's obviously occurred the wrath of the tribunal before this season.

Maybe a question as to suitability to role might have been entertained long before now.

Over to you Magistrates

So we now discuss in generalisations about non specific people ? ;)

I'm presuming the first question from the defence to the plaintiff would be about his involvement in the melee.  I hope for his (the plaintiff) and his family's sake that he has had some top notch legal advice.

This is ALL going to come full circle and bite the AFL on the bum..( or elsewhere )

All due respect, I'd take Dill's comments about 10 years of service, as well as Fahour's statement of 10 years, over a LinkedIn profile.

Even if he was in the role for just under 5 years, you're talking about 4 weeks suspension over that period.  It's possible he hadn't had any suspensions prior to that, and equally, if he had 4 weeks "accrued" prior to starting, it means he has been "clean" for 4 years.

Either way you look at it Bub, you're trying to stitch up an individual (or two if you include Dill), as well as an entire organisation, with a wet tissue strength argument.  I'm all for this bloke getting his just deserts, but get it right before you starting tying the noose.

I dont need to stitch up anyone. They're managing fine all by themselves.

Seems Ali was suspended for the other 4 games in 2010.

Thats before this recent position then.

Gil suggests he was unaware of any of Ali's priors ( to this career ending transgression )

AFL dilligence at it's best.

Must have been Demetrious fault then

Not so sure about that. Any lawyers, or cops here?

I don't believe a complaint must be made to instigate an investigation.

Yes, you're right - no complaint needs to be made for a police investigation to commence. Police, in effect, make the complaint on behalf of the victim if they so choose.

I'm surprised anyone's ever been investigated for murder in that case :P

So Bub, if he had 4 weeks suspension prior to his appointment, does that mean he should automatically be barred from working for the AFL?

Dipper had a far worse record and was employed at the AFL. He was involved in both Ozkick and some diversity program which included the International cup.

What about Leigh Mathews coaching Collingwood just a few years after his de-registration for the assault of Bruns?

There may be many more AFL employees who have suspensions at various levels and we don't know about them.

And what on earth does this mean? Can you spell out what is going to happen to the AFL?

As far as I am concerned, Farhour's actions reflect on himself not the AFL. I really have no idea where you are going with these statements.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
