Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Tommy Bugg on report

Not defending his action but this is a reactionary punishment based on the media outrage drummed up this weekend. If this happened a month ago? 4 weeks.

Just think of how many ludicrous punches ended up being fines or, worse, overlooked. How many elbows to the heads were even cited? Nothing to see when Selwood elbows Mitchell in the head as he's lying defenceless on the ground. Nothing against Schofield because the media decided Oliver was staging. Nothing against Cotchin's jumper punch because he plays for Richmond and he's a great bloke with lots of mates in the media.

The problem was that Mills got concussion. If it was just the punch and nothing else it might have been say three weeks.

The concussion meant poor Buggy had his penalty doubled!

Didn't Barry Hall get 7 weeks for his KO on Staker?

By my reasoning Buggs incident was (IMO) about 1/2 as bad as that was. Should have been given 4 - incident was no worse than Houli.

we have had many instances of players hitting players behind play, in play, in melees etc over the years.  buggs penalty seems excessive given the norm. I agree with others that this is a political thing to prove the afl is tough on violence at least for one match this week.  Still remember tingay getting his jaw broken and the eagle player did not get any sort of penalty. Oliver gets hit in the face nothing for his attacker, even though it ticked many of the same boxes as buggs.

Yet Houli got 4 for KOing a guy. Didn't resident AFL-thug-but-member-of-golden-club-GWS Toby Greene get 2 for a clearly late punch to the head?

We are consistently treated with a different set of rules to other clubs with suspensions, both in how our players are treated (Hogan, Lewis, Bugg) and how those are treated who instigate acts against our players (Schofield).

Trial by media. Six weeks is a joke when Houli received four.

Did anyone think there would be some consistency with the tribunal???????

We always pay the price.

The conventional wisdom, otherwise known as the media, said 6 weeks. So in light of recent events he was always going to get 6.

This passed week will be the making of us as a footy club. Time to learn the lessons and take them forward.

I have a real problem with this, because on one hand it makes sense, if Brayshaw was concussed by a punch and was forced to retire then he'd have every right.  But can we really expect assault cases from a sporting field?

So is it ok to assault someone on a football field?

Not in my book.

The only consistency is they never miss an opportunity to hit us with the fullest extent of their punishment scale.

They also never miss an opportunity to protect players on their protected species list (and we all know which players are on that one) with ludicrously inadequate punishments that border on farce.

Lewis broke Cripp's jaw and only got three weeks, the Friday night lights didn't help this penalty!!!

Mills Le will play this week... he walked off the ground under his own esteem

Now some guy named Nathan Jones is unfairly maligning Bugg for his innocuous act of self-defense!

Nathan Jones says Tom Bugg has burnt trust with the Demons following Callum Mills hit

Melbourne midfielder Tom Bugg has "burnt a fair bit of trust" within the club following his crude off-the-ball hit on Sydney defender Callum Mills, according to Demons co-captain Nathan Jones.

did you read the article? or just the bit the editor picked out... FFS  the headline could have just as easily been the bit about how they are going to help and work with Bugg...

For the record I am happy with anything up to 6 weeks and do not think the team Bugg plays for will make the slightest difference

Seems genuinely remorseful. Glad he and the club didn't defend the action or try to reduce the sentence. Cop it and move on.

Has a long road back now.

It is hard to see him back before the end of the season.

His suspension ends with two games to go, he is not a good enough player to walk back in So needs a couple of games at Casey and that is the end.

He is lucky he has a contract for next year or it might have been sad.

Calm down there tiger... and, yes I did.  Here's a few more snippets for you:

"I didn't find it funny at all, I initially thought that he's in a lot of strife," Jones told RSN radio on Tuesday.

"Obviously it's not something we stand for as a footy club, it's a really terrible look for the game."

"I know Tommy is really remorseful and he's probably burnt a fair bit of trust with the playing group and the coaching group, but in saying that we'll help him through and give him all the support he needs and educate him as much we can and he'll be looking at a fair stint on sidelines and he's got a lot of work to do in that regard."

"There is no defending what he did," Jones said.

Is there something I've misrepresented..?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
