Not sure I agree that the precedent has been set. (I assume you mean by the Houli penalty.) Doesn't Mills have concussion and a broken jaw whereas Lamb only concussion?

I would not appeal anything. We already said we are not condoning his behaviour, and this is not how we want the club to be represented. Appealing it on the grounds that Houli got 4 because of some rubbish character references, is irrelevant semantics. We all know the AFL is a biased organisation, and we all know Houli and Bugg are put in difference baskets, although they both did the wrong thing and both deserve the same penalty. 

If he gets 5 or 6, we take it and we move on.

It comes across as a more deliberate act than Houlis - and if Mills has a fracture it will be 6 at least, as it should be. I have a son playing footy and I would be unhappy with anything less if it happened to him.

I haven't heard anything about a broken jaw, not to say it isn't. If it's not broken, I do think 4 weeks is fair.

There is no doubt that Bugg's strike was a stupid and reprehensible act.  He deserves a substantial sanction.  But what does annoy me is how the whole MRP and Tribunal process is almost certainly governed by media and their so-called experts.

Listening to 3AW on Saturday, they had Bugg hung, drawn and quartered within 15 minutes.  Add to that, Dr. Peter Larkins talking about possible brain haemorrhages from such strikes and the sad loss of his associate from the Box Hill hospital and then replaying Larkins' comments to Simon Lethlean during an interview with him, then you know Bugg will be held up as example of just how the AFL will want to be seen as the tough 'sheriff'.  Lethlean, given his AFL role, should have declined to go anywhere near the subject on live radio.

As I said, Bugg certainly deserves a substantial sanction, but having the media affect the outcome of the penalty is not reasonable.

Yep, the only thing I've seen is that the Swans will monitor his progress before making a decision on his availability for their game against GWS... but that was in relation to his concussion.  I still think he will cop more than 4 weeks simply because it comes immediately after the Houli case was all over the headlines.

I guess we will have to wait for the medical report as well. If Mills has a fractured jaw, and Lewis got 4 down to 3 for fracturing Cripps' jaw, I would think it would be 6.

LOL at appealing for Bugg, why would the club even consider it? He's no superstar anyway & has caused us more unnecessary limelight than we needed. He gets what he deserves and he can play the year out in the VFL & double his pre season KPIs so he lifts his attitude.

If I'm mistaken about Mills' jaw being broken, I apologise for my error (but am pleased for Mills). But I still wouldn't be uncomfortable with Bugg getting a 6 week penalty.

I would think that this is the exact thing that people should be saying.  Punching someone in the face is a potentially deadly action.  We are so brainwashed by Hollywood fist fights to realise just how dangerous and destructive these acts are.  

One punch can kill.  Bugg punched Mills.

How many people do we need to see, stricken in a hospital bed with tubes running out of their head, before we as a society accept the simple fact that punching someone in the head is a dangerous and potenetially deadly thing to do.

Bit hyperbolic. Whatever happens in the next few weeks, it won't be as hard as anything in 2012 and 2013.

It may be disappointing if we fail to reach finals from here, but I'll take this season and whatever the next few weeks throw up ahead of anything that we were forced to live through in 2012 and 2013 (with the single exception of the day Paul Roos was appointed as coach).

An elbow to the jaw is just as dangerous but that isn't worth any weeks.

 

Im not supporting or condoning Buggs actions but he was provoked by an off the ball elbow and retaliated. He eve looked surprised when he saw Mills down 2 seconds later. 

In the incident last week, a player elbowed another player in the jaw without provocation and during the half time break. Did it connect as well? No. But it had the same potential to do harm.

I don't disagree, I'm simply pointing out that the matter should not be played out in the media, to the extent where it effects the penalty handed down.  When you are interviewing a senior operative of the AFL, to me it is not appropriate to seek to influence that operative on such matters.

Again, I, in no way, seek to excuse Bugg for his actions.

If the MFC buckles under in the next 3-6 weeks both on and off the field, we may not get another chance to stand up. 

We have to win games against the hostile public.

Does amaze me that no one ever goes hard at Slobbo, he is the ultimate protected species of the AFL and as the Chief Writer (rolls eyes) of the footy paper, that is the last thing he should be. 

This Whitch Hunt has only just begun, Houli has been forgotten, the Demons are a much better target.
