I don't usually watch "Talking Footy" on 7mate, but thought I'd tune in tonight on the back of a great victory.

Without exaggeration, with 8 minutes to go (after ad break) they haven't complimented Melbourne.  The first part of their program was all about what's wrong with the Dogs.  I wasted an hour.

Im ok with flying under the radar. Beat the Weagles in Perth to go potential top 4 and no-one will ignore us.

Terrible show. I simply cannot stand pink lips McClure. Smarmy gossip hound who Watson, Darcy and Carey must hate having to work with. Apple does not fall far from the tree. Can't stand his old man either

Steady on!  Paul Roos is totally biased to the Dees when commentating on Fox and Ox is unashamedly a Dees tragic on SEN.

But Roos and the Ox are measured and acknowledge the other teams positives.

There is a difference in the way they commentate.

I don't have strong memories of Geoff (or Jeff).

McClure is an old Xav and friend of my Nephew.

He's constantly ragged on SEN mornings by Lyon and I sense they see him as a kid with not much clue.

Some sort of issue between JJ and Stringer, one of them apparently won't be at the Bulldogs next season (from the top..)

Stringer is a golf spelled backwards (see if that beats the auto-censor)

Old Xav, all falls into place. I should have picked you at once.

I might be totally off but I know for a fact that Stringer left his partner of 10 years, a month after she had their second baby, in rather unpleasant circumstances. His ex partner and the kids are very close to JJ and still hang out. Might be some anger there between the two?

Stringer is only about 23.

The must get hitched young in Bendigo.

So I take it Jake will not be nominated for Father of the year?

Buckley on Footy Classifieds is so bitter about us... said "they played a good 4 quarter game last week. They had to". Then went on to say "they are only a game ahead of the Dogs"

Bitter Buckley. Bitter. I love it!

They're at least spending time discussing Melbourne on Classified (after dissecting the problems at the Dogs).

All positive.

I was annoyed after our QB victory the Hair-oiled Scum paid more attention to Howe's mark than to our win.

What did we give up for him again... bargain! Again plenty on here thought he was a dud.

I think (think... because I know one day I'll say something silly about a player) I've learnt to hold back on under rating players early on or even medium term.

Deal was pick 23 in return for Frost and picks 40 & 53.

We drafted Neal-Bullen and Oscar Mac with those picks. GWS drafted Pat McKenna with pick 23 (who is currently on our injury list).

I think we did ok out of that deal.

Not too shabby. Hopefully young Pat can get on the park as well.

Sorry mate but this has been overplayed and is wrong. Bugg bumped Easton Wood after the goal, it was cheeky but not free kick worthy, Wood got him back and clearly hits him in the face with a round arm while bumping him from behind. That's too high and a free kick every day of the week. Bugg milked it but he also bled from the face so he milked it a lot less than both Cripps and Rowe against our players.

Brad Johnstone* clearly finds Bugg annoying and so failed to point out the high contact in the commentary but it was clear as day at the ground and the right decision. Stupid act from Wood who should've just bumped him back without smacking him in the face.

Don't buy into the Bugg-haters, it was a clear free kick and if it had happened to one of the media favourites they would be screaming for a suspension for high contact outside the play. The MRP would've suspended a MFC player for 3 weeks if they'd done it, but hey, everyone can see that double standard.

Edit: Brad Johnstone sooking it up about the Bugg hit not Johnno Brown

Bug came up from that bleeding.  Why wasn't Wood cited by the MRP? He was clearly hit in the face hard enough to draw blood.

Because he plays for the Bulldogs and Bugg plays for Melbourne. They're a protected species and we get suspended at the drop of a hat.

The MRP must be sending a secret message that Wood is in contention for the Brownlow. Get on now before the odds shorten.

Something overshadows us every time we get a decent win, some sort of scandal, or Richmond losing the unlosable or the team we beat is in crisis because they lost to us. So we get some small mention at best. That Talking Footy [censored] is the worst, I assume it'd be like a wake tonight with Darcy, like Classified was last week with Bucks.

360 is usually ok for a bit of a pump up.

So much love for Carlton. They beat Gold Coast. Who cares?

Just watched on the couch replay - good old Jonno Brown continues to pump us up. David Kind even brought up a graph titled 'premiership contenders?' (Notably though, showing we are #1 pressure side).

what with the nature of this season and the fleeting form lines of all teams, perhaps a tightly fitting lid is called for...

Can't wait to watch the replay.

Radio stations raving on Oscar.

Sounds like we had a serious spread of contributors, harder at the contest and faster on the spread, with a dominant backline and a creative forward line.

Why can't we win in Perth next week?

We can.

Who cares about the media? Let's just keep winning. The media will turn on you very quickly when something goes rotten so lets not hang out for some kind of parental approval from the doorknobs in the media.

We are coming from a long way back. I want to be a hated team because we are winning in a ruthless manner.

A lot of people do, that's why there's numerous footy shows on multiple channels.

I like to kick back during the week after a good win and see what's being said about us, and get some sick satisfaction from the schadenfreude of clubs I hate getting ripped into.

I don't necessarily care what the media say, I think a majority of them are buffoons, but I like to watch what's being said.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
