he was never on their list, just a vfl player

But they train at the same venue and have direct alignment so i'm sure he felt connected with the AFL side? Perhaps he has something to prove to them for not giving him a shot at AFL

Old im not noting it as a precursor to an excuse.

Im just stating what is.

Given we've yet to play 4 qtrs of footy i think it is relevant however.

Start doing that bb and we will give the GF a shake.

? Should be playing then

Probably not but we have been short of able bodied soldiers!

Bernie is the type to say 'i'm right mate' and keep going and he is such a clever player for us, so he takes the field (without complaint).

A few others are in the same boat Petracca had knee bone bruising a month ago which usually takes a few weeks to recover but he kept playing.  Watts has been carrying an injury and hurt his ankle at training and he plays.

With our long injury list and no-one at Casey knocking the door down these guys soldier on (and for the most part have been critical in our wins).

Tough caper being an AFL player.

It's an increasingly multi-cultural world we inhabit. We must be tolerant of all in these times my good man.

Never thought I'd say that to a high flying demon named Beelzebub.

Hey I noted Neil 'The Reverend' Daniher barracking for us on Channel 7 last week on multiple occasions. Who could ask for a more revered reverend than that?

The owners of the stadium, the AFL, have set the price of Level 2 seating between $60 and $80 depending on the teams, so no is your answer

He was given a shot at  VFL from the VAFA by the Dogs and 'rumour' has it the Dogs were going to draft him, hence why we took him 'early', only interested in playing his role and staying in the team

Unchanged line up.

I'm happy with that.

No player deserved to be dropped.

I'm sure the FD would have weighed up match-ups to go in unchanged.

Up to the players now to repay the faith!

Interesting no change, I think they will bring spencer in next week then gawn week after

Only if Spencer dominates at Casey .... he also needs to deliver around the ground. One mark last week in a winning team was not enough to justify a change

Based on his non-selection, I'd be staggered if Spencer's still on our list next year. The FD think that we're better off being non-competitive in the hitouts, than having an immobile unskilled ruckman like Spencer. It makes no sense to perservere with him.

Hi. I have bought a general admission ticket for Sunday for $20 (via Telstra Sport Thanks), and 2 free tickets for two of my children.

Anyone able to tell me where I can sit?

Not sure on Spencer, would depend on form this weekend I s'pose. I posted earlier in the week that I didn't see Gawny on the flight to Perth, certainty now given he's not playing this weekend. Hopefully a run at Casey, and GTG against the Swans if fit.

Well prepare to be staggered because he's contracted for another few years

Given the Dogs don't have a huge ruck presence, i don't mind Spencer's non-selection. He will more than likely be selected for the game next week and depending on how Max is tracking, will probably make way for him against the Swans the following Friday.

Given we then have a 9 day break, it allows Max enough time to recover from his first game in a while, but if he doesn't, Pencil is good insurance to come in if Gawn needs a bit more time to recover.

I'm assuming the decision to not play Spencer was the fact we are playing at Etihad and against the Dogs who don't really have a dominant ruckman at all. That and the fact that Spencer didn't exactly bang the door down in the 2's

Yep - having read the match report, it was clear he was ok in ruck contests but struggled around the ground.  Dogs have gone quite tall with Cordy and Boyd in to join Roughead so will be interesting to see how it plays out.  Still feel better with a ruckman than without one but let's see...

I'd have preferred Spencer vs Boyd and Roughead. We gain so much from one inclusion... Pedo being able to stay inside fifty. Jack too. And TMac to go back to spoiling and rebounding. Also, I feel like the Dogs would have felt hard done by seeing a proper ruckman against them as they have hard working but only semi effective guys to call upon. As they say in chess, you should always make the move your opposition least wants you to make, even if you have one you think is better.

Having said that, after such a famous victory, I'm more than happy to show faith in Goody's calls. Going in unchanged... doesn't happen often... and is good reward for commitment from the 22.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
