Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I really hate to harp on about this Bugg thing... But I've just taken another close look.

I'm pretty crap at uploading etc... not sure how to do short videos and captures. Here's a picture I took of my finger anyway.

That's Bugg I'm pointing at. He's behind Olly, Harmes ANB and Hunt as would-be chasers. When he crosses the paint of fifty he's still just jogging and the ball has been kicked to Sidebottom. I'd love it if someone could tell me the exact distance between the arcs, because in exactly 10 seconds (3:41-3:31 on the clock) he covers a bigger distance than that.

No-one anywhere else will single him out because he didn't make the tackle. Only just affected the kick... but bloody hell I hope Goody does.

Nice fingering Dappa! As others have said a clear reason he is in the 1s ahead of others.

This is mostly bs. But anyone here who thinks it's all bs is as blind as the video-maker. Almost every decision in the 4th went our way. We were better in the last but without a doubt had the run of the green. Absolutely felt it watching it at the time as well, because, well, it's unusual and stood out. Don't think it would have been the difference, but it invalidates genuine complaints about the umps when you don't accept when it falls in your actual favour. And, as we should appreciate, it's not always the balance of unfairness during an entire game, but when and how the bad calls are made. We got lucky. Be humble and hope it's a sign of things to come. Free kick, Melbourne.

I dunno that the ones paid for us really helped us that much. We kept turning over or not scoring off them. And the ones where they were inside their own fifty and gave one away didn't affect the scoreboard. Even the Greenwood one, had the umpire not called holding the ball it would have been a ball up, we'd have had time to get back and clear the ball.

As you say you "felt it" while watching. I have to say I felt when watching that it was a game neither team deserved to lose. Both put in amazing effort. Impartials watching it said it was exhausting and both teams should feel proud. Now looking back at those calls, I don't think they had the impact you say. Not on the scoreboard at least.

As others have said, it's a great pick up Dappa, and indicative of why he is in the side.  He got a hard hit in the marking contest and was actually sore when he got up, yet from the moment above he put that aside and sprinted between the arcs to affect the Treloar kick.  The FD would have noticed that and he should get plenty of praise for it.

It's a shame others can't see it, as Buggy is having a positive impact on our forward line at the minute.  Some want to drop him, which shows how little they watch the game.

The logical outcome of any analysis like that video is that the umpiring would not have been "fair" unless all the 50-50 incidents were paid as free kicks to Collingwood, and the count would have massively been to Collingwood's advantage.

Some of the "shots on goal" only resulted in behinds (e.g. Petracca). In some of the holding the ball complaints, there wasn't actually a lasting tackle effected (e.g Hibberd's). Jayden Hunt's run on for advantage actually resulted in a turnover from the kick and a goal to Collingwood. So I'll happily take that back if they like.

That doesn't even take into account the times that a free kick wasn't paid to Melbourne for holding the ball (e.g. twice on Treloar and once on Howe). Swings and roundabouts.

Anyway, I'm glad the money we raised for the bribes worked.  ^_^

The village elders tell us the playing surface (from goal to goal) is 160m. So minimum distance from arc to arc is 60m and that's if you're running straight down the middle. Longer if you're not. Plus the Bugger is about 12/13m inside the arc at the point where a giant cigar shaped object is about to do unspeakable things to him.

I have a distinct feeling, and it is pretty obvious, that Treloar wishes he had have gone to Melbourne. I noticed he was helped to his feet sometimes and he smiled and could have said thanks, i'll see you next year.

Buggy like Gawny and Wattsy is a happy player, i like happy players!!

Just watched the replay again.

The Pies got an unbelievable run in the 2nd qtr with frees. They shouldn't be squealing as they got goals from the errors.

Also, Callum Brown twice threw his head back before he even got tackled. He got one free but it was very poor form from a first gamer. Will end up like Mathieson from Brisbane or Lindsay Thomas

My only knock on Bugg was his set shot goal kicking but anyone can have a bad run with that.

He certainly has many tricks.

He can take a hanger ,kick a goal, lay tackles, and his field skills are good. His tank is good and he works his [censored] off.

On the umpiring- it was unpredictable as ever so we take it and hurl abuse at our defeated opponents as much as possible!! Why be graciious against the filth!!

One of the things that made me so happy on Monday arvo was our gut running from so many players, Bugg, Harmes, Jones, Watts, Garlett etc etc.

When I watched Jack make that incredible run at the end and kick that goal (I'll never forget it), after lots of jumoing around and beers, it made me think of this article.
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/teams/melbourne/stinging-criticism-made-cameron-pederson-work-harder/news-story/0513bd33927554d21f594def39aa6978

THERE'S A RUTHLESS CULTURE AT OUR CLUB!

I could see the parallels with Pedersen (being told he won't play AFL or VFL until he drops 10kg) and Watts being held back at the start of the season to raise his intensity. He's delivered.
But when you watch the replay you can see it with so many of our team now.

I reckon Garlett might have had a similar talking to after he dropped away last year a bit too. He has been magnificent with his work ethic as well.

Then there's players like Bugg (what an effort at the end), Harmes, Jetta, Hibberd etc etc.
They'll never be considered champions but their efforts are relentless.

The bulldogs have been the same, We are now. We never let them get away from us and we hunted them down.
We are building a champion team.
It's a credit to all the leadership of our club.

One of the benefits of the game was the experience it gives to our younger players, playing in a game with finals like atmosphere, the noise was unbelievable and the pressure out on the ground must have been incredible. We've had a few games this year where there have been big crowds but mostly they've been in front of, mainly opposition supporters, Adelaide, Richmond and Essendon, this time I reckon we held our own and we cheered as loud as they booed.

Even though the Pies are a middle of the road club we won and should have won by more and we should not underestimate the value that we get having big Max in the side, he not only takes control of the centre, he also slips in for a couple of goals and takes some timely marks in the back line. There is one benefit we've gained from his injury I guess and that's the adaptability we've gained roving to the opposition ruck, we would probably be the best in the comp now.

Really love the way we fought back and the way we controlled the game in the last half, we missed out on a few opportunities and a couple of miss kicks cost us goals and a much bigger win. Love the arrogance of the younger brigade who know they are good and don't hold back, love the cool heads of the older players who know how to win close games.

I agree, but they were much much better than I expected. Looks like they've been trying to get to a game plan similar to ours, and if Monday was any indication, they're far closer to it now than they were earlier in the season. If they keep up that trajectory, they'll beat some good sides, and Round 23 will be another great contest.

Yes they were better than expected, but if Max plays we win by a lot more, as Goody said'They obliterated us around the packs in the first half", that wouldn't have happened.

Not certain if this has been pointed out already but I have lost count on the amount of times I have seen the Watts goal. The vision of it with the  K-Rock commentary is as good if not better than the 3aw version.

Surely we can watch it a few more times before our attention turns to the team selection soon.:)

And while I am at it Taylor Adams made some horrible blues throughout the match.

Fittingly it was he that was chasing Watts and was out on his legs.

Karma.

Taylor is their Dom Tyson.

No doubt both are very good players but they make a few howlers each game that make the fans tear their hair out.

I wouldnt trade Tyson for Taylor though, love me some Dom.

Need Brissie to beat Port at AO (unlikely but hoping) and the Swans to beat the Tigers at the G and ourselves to beat the Dogs will have us sitting in 4th on the ladder, giving us a 4 point gap on 5th.

We don't want the Swans to beat the Tigers. The Swans are just one loss away from making them to go into "rebuilding" mode for the rest of the season. I would much prefer that in three weeks time, than them on a roll into the 8.

The DeeBrief on Facebook has uploaded a video of Dappa Dan's fingering of Tom Bugg.

It really was a great run down, Bugg looked spent right at the start and there's no way you'd think he was about to make that chase.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
