Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Need to find room for Hogan (presumably available) and Salem.

Don't think that'll be a problem. About 10 players who are behind those two on a bad day!

I hope Hogan is ready, but I wouldn't be pressuring him, same with Gawn. No way do we risk him. I reckon he'll play against Sydney and not before. They won't risk him on that awful Etihad ground, nor will they take him to Perth. I reckon Friday night against Swans, and Spencer will fit in until then.

If Spencer is somewhat fit, he is definitely worth risking against the Pies. We need our structure back!
Spencer in, Tom Mac to the backline, OMac out, Pedo backup/third forward, midfield feasting on the work of an actual ruckman. Happy days!

In: Spencer, Salem, Hogan (?)

Out: OMac, Bugg, Wagner

If no Hogan, then Wager stays, ANB to take over from Bugg and Salem into the middle!

Reckon Hogan will play, gut feel.    Gawn surely not, most likely return for him looks like the game vs West Coast.

In - Hogan, Salem

Out - O McDonald, Bugg

Bugg somewhat unlucky, but he has 10-12 clear opportunities to kick a goal the last two weeks and has come up empty every time.

In  game where games are played.. I'd love  Gawn to be selected on the extended bench , subject to a fitness test  that morning.

Would have Eddie's lads in a lather wondering, second guessing and sweating.

Any kicking skills will up us massively. lol

At one point in the second half Watts took a mark uncontested on the paint of defensive fifty. I was overjoyed. Love when he plays between the arcs.

So true. Whenever I see the ball in Watts' hands between the arcs my immediate thought is "okay, we're on here". He waits, sizes up the options, then generally hits the most dangerous one. How difficult it is doesn't matter.

I agree with majority that Wagner and Bugg are in the firing line for Salem who is a must in. Wagner was a little better on the weekend and Bugg is doing a lot right especially off the ball. Can't really question the endeavour of either player.

I'd go Wagner. Buggy would get another week but if he still can't find the big sticks he'll have to make way.

O Mac for Hoges/Gawn I'd be more than happy with.

He's having a lot of shots - surely he'll kick straight.....surely??

I like what ANB brings, he is very good as an inside mid, which releases Jones and Lewis and he can also kick goals.

He isn't the fastest, or cleanest, or most spectacular player, but I think he does his job really well, and certainly has been a solid contributor. I wrote him off last year as a bit of a nothing half forward, but have been very impressed with his inside work this year, which has given him a whole other dimension.

It seems that the rotating guys seem to be ANB, Melksham, Bugg and/or Harmes for the FD

A lot of the team wouldn't be getting a game on that basis :)

Would love Gawn, Hogan and Salem as INS. Doubt Gawn will come in but worried about Grundy's influence aka Goldstein.

Out i would suggest Oscar McDonald and then i hit a wall. Tom M I'd move back for Oscar and play Hogan, Pedo and Watts as 3 tall forwards with Pedo as relief ruck.

Nervous but excited for Queens birthday :) Go dees!

Unless something has gone awry with Spencer's rehab, he at the very least will be available.

Jake injured his right shoulder which I'm guessing is his main tapping arm so full range and power is critical.

The issue is that if pederson isn't working out in the ruck then tmac will need to take that position.

You then lose a tall from the backline.

If o mac isn't playing then you essentially lose 2 talls from last week.

I like OMac more than most on this site - but if a ruckman was available he wouldn't be playing.  When Frost and Hibberd became available and played well, he went out and he only came back in when Tmac had to go ruck/fwd.  He's played to my expectations this year, he's a young developing KPB and he'll be a good player for us. With a full list he's depth right now, which is very good.

Weideman has generally played below expectations though and Pedersen has played very well - his marking has been very strong.  Even with our tall shortage Weed can't get in.  He needs to work on his game at Casey.  It will be interesting to see how we go with Hogan, Pedersen and Watts as the tall forwards when a ruckman comes in.

Salem has to come in versus Collingwood but it's tough to nominate the out - I'm no Bugg lover and his conversion has been woeful the last 2 weeks but he is getting it in dangerous positions.  Bugg, Wagner, ANB, Harmes - someone will be unlucky.  Melksham not in this list - I think he could be a good contributor in the midfield/wing.

I agree re Bugg doing most things right except kicking goals that he is paid to kick.  IIRC he climbed back into the seniors on the back of a 5 goal game for Casey, so he has goalkicking somewhere in his repertoire.  Just needs to find it!

It's very frustrating - he kicked important goals against Adelaide.

Yep, i agree with this. Wasnt sure he had any real weapons, but the kid is a goer who is gradually learning where to position himself. Love his workrate and tackling.

Give him a decent run at it and i think we might be surprised.

not sure Im as optimistic as others on Spencer, he was listed as 2-3 weeks 5 days ago. youd want him to play a half at casey but we are desperate i guess!

if Hoges plays it would be massive.  We probably cant expect much from him but it will lift the team to have him out there

how you can compare Wagner with Hogan as a substitute I am dumb founded.

Wagner is improving and I want him in our Team as I do Bugg. Both are "hard nuts" at the ball.

Salem needs a rest I agree.

Spencer will only get one more game before Gawn comes  back...

totally agree. ANB was in our best players on the weekend and is is aware of the Coaches needs... We need hard at it players who give 100%

Spencer would be a terrific in against the pies . He would stop Grundy having a free run and allow us to have Pedo forward and Tmac back - a much improved structure.

Yes, would be nice to have Spencil back. We looked better with Pedo forward against Suns, he helped to straighten us up. TMac looked out of sorts in the forward line, move him back.

Depends upon the oppo match ups, but...

In: Spencil, Salem, and hopefully Hogan

out: OMac, Wags and maybe Bugg (especially his left foot)

Why is Salem an automatic inclusion, particularly after a win and no injuries?

I thought the club was no longer standing for cheap shots such as the Hogan and Lewis indiscretions.

Salem has been fantastic this year, and is a clear best 22 now. He's the perfect guy to have in next to Lewis, his skills are now much better than Lewis's but learning the leadership Lewis showed in the second half would be brilliant for the next 5+ years.

We'll have Gawn and Hoges come back as well (hopefully very soon) which will mean from the guys who played the suns on the weekend there'll be 3 who play at Casey until an opportunity opens up. That's what we need to push into the finals this year, quality depth. Pencil being ready will only help as well.

Pre-season everyone on here was excited about our depth and struggling to find a true best 22, that means there'll be unlucky guys, who hopefully put enough pressure on those just above them so who ever is in the team performs every week.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
