Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Smith Jnr every day of the week over Omac. Showed more in a quarter of footy than Omac has shown all year. Omac super lucky we don't other alternatives at the moment.

I do like the look of Smith, but from what little I've seen of his disposal at AFL level, it's been pretty odinary.  Perhaps it's just nerves, a little uncertainty and struggling to pick up the faster pace of the game.  I'm certainly hoping he can tidy up this area of his game, because he looks like a more than handy prospect.

He laid 5 tackles, yeah, but was murdered in the ruck and failed to take a contested mark once moved forward.

I may have to check the tape, because maybe he did take some marks in the second half, but I certainly don't recall any.

It's such a strange comment from you, Adam.  Maybe it's because Pedo has had such a big month that he has set the bar too high, but to have a go at him about his ruck work when we both know he was giving up serious height to Witts on the weekend is harsh in the extreme.  What he lacked in height he made up for with his work around the ground, and while he may not have have had the same impact of previous weeks, he was still very handy on the weekend.

What is wrong with our contested marking inside 50 rarely took marks and spilled many easy ones Watts and Petracca the main offenders

Also why do we seem to stufff around with the ball just outside 50.It looks like they are scared to kick goals

Many times on Saturday we won the contest, space and time opened up and the players chose not to kick at the goals again Watts and Petracca the main offenders.Maybe I am not seeing things. Bugg needs to practise practise and Practise!!!!

Oh and some of Derms best comments:

On Bugg's kicking lining up for goal, "he's usually a very good kick is Tom Bugg".

After Watts kicked a goal, "he's not a renouned goal kicker, Jack Watts".

Last time I checked Watts was predominantly a forward who last year kicked 38 goals, and Tom Bugg is one of the worst kicks in our team! Very special comments there!

he's still better than Taylor and Hudson

Dermie often commentates by emotion, or the vibe of the thing, at least as it sits in his mind. Facts are for others.

The worst commentator in the land. He bizarrely thinks he is a wordsmith but completely mangles words, phrases and sentences. Makes up words and expressions. Sometimes just grunts if some bit of play reinforces some idea he has. Extraordinary stuff for someone paid to make comments. The best i can say is he is consistent.

When answering the question about why he thought Harmes' perfectly legal handball was illegal he mumbled something then said it 'correct indsiposal'.

Sometimes his analysis is actually ok. But often not. Loved the gem in the first quarter after the GCs third goal. He reckoned we were well on top because of the win. I can see what he was trying to say. I think. But we were 2 goals down!

Then in the third he was saying Oliver looked cooked and wow the dees were tiring. Just before we flicked the switch, looked the far fitter team and GC stopped like a train had them.

so at a reported figure of $500K plus travel expenses that is $100 per attendee. Somehow I think the NT government has better things on which to spend its money.

And please don't tell me they make it from Tourism ..... how many people watched that game against say two or three ads during the Richmond v Collingwood game

It is a good deal for them. What other chance do they get to get half a day on television and the national media to have NT front and centre, and the Alice presents really well on television. Since they have been televising Alice Springs games, I have certainly changed my view of it (admittedly superficial view), but isn't that what advertising and promotion is all about - perceptions rather than reality.

The NT deal is a good deal for them AND us!

Didn't like first half, loved our second half! We won, so I get to wear MFC tie to work. If Watts has a groin injury might explain lack of leap (and make some posts here look lame)

A groin injury suffered this week against the Suns wouldn't have impacted on his ability to stretch his arms out to take a mark last week against North Melbourne.

His contested work looks weak and disinterested. His body is rarely in the right position to make a contest and on a number of occasions just flung an arm at the ball as it went past

There seem to be whipping boys even when we play well and win (Coaching group were reasonably happy with first half, but we failed to convert and ball movement in the mid/fwd lines) Iam am extending Goody's words in his press  briefing.

SO :

  • How come it is OMac's fault for every mistake on the ground .There are criticisms of his marking (but not Petraccas). I must admit there were a couple of times in the first half that I thought the Knockers may be right, but overall he was playing on either Lynch or" 2 metre pete" so Frosty and OMac really did their jobs teamwise. He had 11 1% and some people are being praised for massively less than that. If you want a high flying KPD who carries the ball 50 metres ( like Jayden Hunt ) , and kicks it 60 ( like David Neitz) at least 10 times a game , be prepared to pay 2 Miliom $. So be thankful we are grooming blokes like Frosty & OMac.
  • Our paucity of Ruckmen means that we have taken our main KPD out of his best area and have two "äpprentices" back there. Let us be fair to them. Jetta and Hibberd' have tightened the defence up really well.
  • Our paucity of Ruckmen means that we have also taken our main Fwd line ball distributor out of his most effective area. Jack Watts is not a natural ruckman and has competed extremely well in  that role for some weeks. Over that time he has assumed a "more than fill in role". I agree that he may have got a rocket at 1/2 time, but I also feel a few teamates were informed he was on the ground, makes good decisions and is our traffic director into the fwd line .so why was he not being used
  • Clarrie is in front of Jobe Watson at the same stage of his career and could be anything.
  • Petracca needs to take a leaf out of Nathan Jones/Clarries book because he could be anything. I was a bit critical of his input yesterday until i saw the replay and started to notice how stats can lie because he put really good pressure on when the ball is in his area.Just need to get more of it.
  • Nathan Jones. If he was Cyril dangerfield,, Bruce McAve... would have him as an All Australian. I just feel that the wider football group do not quite appreciate how he has shown enormous loyalty and committment to the Club. He has grown massively as a leader..
  • Peddo is our whole hearted team man. When Gawny comes back a fwd line with Peddo deep and Jack Watts high Half Fwd and Hannan and Gartlett crumbing and running we could be anything.

The future is bright !!!!

And Hoges!

I couldn't bring myself to watch the first half again, but I watched the second and you notice things you missed the first time around.

A few observations:

Oscar was worse than I thought.  He was spectacularly woeful.  Twice he missed simple overhead marks with no competition when the ball just went through his hands.  He kicked to Hunt but missed him and the ball went out of bounds.  There were countless others, including another missed kick under zero pressure, but I won't bore everyone with blow by blow descriptions.  He is so far off the pace of an AFL standard key defender it's not funny.

Neal-Bullen was much better than I remembered.  He and Oliver waxed a lot.  His ability to get his hands on the footy during our comeback was important and just as importantly he hit his targets with quality footskills.  I've never rated Neal-Bullen, but I'm starting to change.  He's much improved and much more composed than last year.

Rocket said in his post match interview that they had 15 players out and expect 6 back next week.  I checked the "outs".  Other than Ablett there are battlers like Rosa and Grant.  Day is OK (just) but may not play again and there's really no-one else of significance.  Rory Thompson was probably the most significant, but what midget in Melbourne's forward-line was he going to take ?  And Leslie played his role as well or better than he could.  The list doesn't include Ablett, but did include Swallow and Hanley, who both played.  Turn it up, Rocket !

He did say Watts set shot routine is in the top 3 in the league though. Hard to argue with that!

No offence Dan but really? Oscar would be near to the worst player in the comp. Would not get a game in any other team. Tom...so much hype but his decision making and disposal is very, very ordinary.

Oscar reminds me of Zac Dawson and he is actually the worst player in the league. I hope he proves me wrong in the latter part of the year.

This has always been my concern. We as the Melbournre Football Club should be Working with the Victorian Government to increase the profile of both the State and the club.

Geelong make over $600k every home game and get the state Govt to pay for their Grandstand.

The MFC simply has to increase its profile

The NT Deal was survival mode in 2012-13, we should have left it behind by now.

BUT are we the Melbourne Football Club  or The MCG Football Club?

We need to move to a marginal electorate to have that happen SWYL

I find it bewildering that supporters of the same team can see such polarisingly different things when judging an individuals game.

Oscar in this instance.

I think its to do with whether you have a supportive stance and can relate to the notion of development and are the type to forgive errors in the short term - vs those who see things in black and white, who want instant gratification and that the only place to develop is in the VFL as opposed to the context of developing skills under high pressure contexts. Also these same people are just really tired of mediocrity and are anxious about the future...

Dermott is your classic ex-player commentator. Doesn't put in the work, doesn't know the players, doesn't keep up with trends.

And who's going to contradict what he says? He's got the ultimate comeback: "you didn't play at the highest level, what would you know?"

Money for jam.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
