I don't need to watch the game to make this point. It is clear we were terrible for the first 2.5 quarters.

When we lose but play well, you are one of a few people who often post about how the way we play is irrelevant or not important when we lose. It seems, to me, that it is hypocritical to say that when we play poorly but win, the way we played is relevant.

Whatever. Get a life. I won't be celebrating the first half regardless of your feelings

I highly recommend for those that haven't been to Alice to come up and support - it's awesome. On a very personal note - not that anyone knew... nice win for the old man looking on - exactly one year on. Finally.

the negativity that pervades supporters drives me to drink (currently at Montes in Alice again, it's awesome)

its not about 2017 and yes finals makes me feel good - but they show grit, time and time and time again. From a coaching perspective they make relevant changes where appropriate- 2018 will be a cracker.

oliver is just sublime

harmes is stepping up

and remember - no defined ruck and no key forward for structure - glad we lowered our eyes in the second half. Melbourne have done effing well for the past 5 rounds without the services of some athletes that really are crucial to structure and planning. Personally  I commend the coaching staff with all things considered

Good post. Yeah we've had a few games where we've played like rubbish and seen ourselves 5 goals down - but in every single one of those games we've come back to level terms. We haven't won all the games but we've been in every one so far.

71 inside 50s today

What about Oliver's handball to ANB that led to Jeff's fourth goal? I thought Dermott was going to go all Bruce+Cyril over it every time he re-watched the footage.

I didn't see the game, but want to add my support to Oscar. 90% of what the kid does is excellent, 10% is horrendous. For a guy who has played 20-odd games, he does a hell of a lot right. With experience and confidence he will cut the errors and be a very good player. I already think he is tracking better than either his brother and Frawley at the same stage of their respective careers.

Nice to see the boys fight back from a poor half and get a decent win. However it is most concerning that they have gone well down in each of the past five games. It would be nice to lead at quarter time occasionally.

Watching Melbourne play is like having your wisdom teeth extracted without anaesthetic.

Plus nose restraightened without anaesthetic and I can vouch for that!!

We were pathetic in 1st half and had a training run in 2nd half due to gold coast being pathetic. Ĺwe wont beat collwood playing like that and they are a very poor team. Not impressed.

65 point turnaround, 35 point win and you're not impressed?

Melbourne supporters need psychological counselling package with the membership instead of a scarf next year

Omac can go and stand next to that Traeger Park tree and wait for the next electrical storm. Might spark some life into the boy.

Oscar McDonald: 11 x 1% ers. Double anyone else in the team. THAT'S why he's playing. He's ranked 4th in the AFL for average 1%'ers per game.

Does he need to improve other aspects of his game? Absolutely. But stop looking at what he doesn't do, and look instead at what he DOES do. The rest will come.

He was high in that stat when he was dropped after round 3.  If it was that important he wouldn't have been.

We're getting games into him, but it's at the expense of performance and because we have no-one else.

If you're going to focus on the negatives in a win, that's fine, but I don't think it stacks up with ignoring the positives in losses. That's all.

Agree. We've only won 4 first quarters this year (but, by contrast, we've won 7 third quarters).

I do like our resilience, we've fought back from 4+ goal leads a number of times now. But the fact we're doing that is a sign of our inability to play four quarters, consistently struggling early but righting the ship late (sometimes too late).

Tmac is not a forward. We learnt that last week didn't we? Fortunately goody read my post and moved him to the ruck. Took too long to do it. When we get a few back we might just be a team.

We looked better in 2nd half when Tmac went to the ruck and Pedo forward

It was important we got in front late in the third.

In a couple of other games we've got close, or even, but not in front.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
