Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He needn't have been worried.

I reckon Mahoney planned his entire trade meet around bringing in big May, and as such, it was always a massive chance of happening.

When you have a bloke who is willing to upset the nuffies, and take "unders" for a supposed star, and then pay "overs" for his target, he usually gets what he wants.

I am confident everyone on 'Land will be beside themselves once they realise just how good this animal is....

I did indeed want to keep jack. One of my favorite ever dees players. Certainly that was a factor but so was the fact that he was our best kicks and we lack good kicks.

His second last season with us was his high water mark and he made valuable contribution. Something that you might well remember I predicted. A prediction you took issue with leading to a losing bet and your jacky boy avatar

But I also made clear on multiple occasions that I understood and respected the decision to trade him and haven't complained once since it occurred.

And besides we all get things wrong PD. You for instance, in your inimitable way, dismissed completely my belief tmac could make an excellent forward when it was first tried. In fact IIRC you were quite adamant he could never be a forward's boot lace and the experiment would be short lived

I on the other hand, with my strong football analytic skills and many many hours of watching him live, was adamant that not only could he be a good forward he might even play that role going forward. I mean it was pretty obvious he had the ability if you were to take of your confirmation bias glasses.

Looks like I might have got that one right pd. You  - not so much.

Nadal and Federer.

A top spin forehand across court from Pro Dee and then a backhand slice down the line from Binman.

I genuinely love this bloke.

From nowhere, he’s virtually my favourite Demon.

Such a good pick up. I can’t believe how good this trade period was - simply par excellence.

Competence is such an attractive trait - thanks Josh, Todd, and JT.

Gosh Ron, you must be falling in love all the time.

Almost promiscuous.

Love at first sight.

Any other loves you can disclose?

Frost tidied up his disposal and decision making in the second half of the season considerably.

Agree that he does sometimes mis-judge marks (normally by running way under them), but also takes some rippers.  Would like to see how his % of winning marks stacks up against some of the key forwards he plays on, I recon it would be pretty fair.  Similarly some of the forwards he plays on grossly misjudge marks and he takes an easy one.  Either way it's a turn over, just looks worse for a backman at that moment, but equally  how many plays did Frost initiate, where he broke lines and we went practically coast to coast and goaled as a result?  It was a fair few.

I don't see why people don't think Frost won't continue getting better.  I recon there is more possibility of teaching an older dog new tricks, than turning a boxer into a greyhound.  At the end of the day, I also just love watching this guy play - seeing guys take the game on and go on big runs, taking big grabs and kicking big torpes is what makes the game exciting to watch and Frosty does all three pretty well.

Those who believe Frost may struggle for a game need to think again... I would play him on a Wing!!

Been reading my posts again PF? I also said in a pinch he could help out in the ruck as once the contest is over he becomes another mid.

Wing's he possie Roos played there so y not Sam

Roos played there as a developing player and played it well before making his name as an attacking defender.

I would think he has a little more footy smarts than Frosty...

I don't mean to offend, but reading Frost on a wing suggestions is the ultimate *facepalm moment for me.

He's a behind the ball player and that's it.  He doesn't have the smarts or skills to play anywhere else.

He's also been tried and failed (for the same reasons) in the ruck.

I recall reading on DL many posts as to what a crap player Frost is and should be traded at the end of the year. I posted he should be in the side, after Lever was injured and certainly ahead of Petty, who I think will become a very good player for us. After a few games back in the side, he was lauded by DL and the media, for his attacking  play in Defence. Suddenly he was a good footballer.

While he is capable of the odd Clanger, he is still a handy player for us. Just because he has some limitations, like all players, doesn’t mean that he hasn’t improved. Also just because he has not succeeded, say in previous stints in the ruck, doesn’t mean if needed there now, he wouldn’t handle it better.

I am not saying he is a ruckman or a winger, just that he might do ok there if needed to fill in,because of the attributes he has and that he has developed somewhat the last couple of years.

I think there is a tendency to categorise players and sometimes incorrectly. We all do it.

Balanced comments.

For me, Frost is best suited down back with his height and pace. However, that’s not to say he can’t be used in other positions if needed. Adaptability and versatility are important.

Over the years, there have been plenty of players with similar attributes as Frost that have played on the wing. Two that come to mind are Gary Crazyhorse Cowton of North Melbourne and Wayne Scotchy Gordon of Collingwood and Melbourne. Both played on the wing in the 70s. They were tall and quick but with limitations regarding mobility and ball use.  Also very common for blokes with spring being used as tap ruckman despite poor mobility and limited skills.

Players can play a role even if they are not ideally suited to a position.

Spot on, 'Balls! Frost should be our CHB in the new structural order.

He is a genetic mirror in the learning of May's game and thus, a great link man for May's game, Jetta's challenge and, run and carry, Lever's intercept, HIbberd's rebound. Better still, Frosty is getting better at almost everything needed and his run and carry is less easily intercepted, interrupted and interpreted. He is a boomer kick for clearances and a quick re-setting of the backline. If he was doing these things pretty well (love the understatement that you have used) then he is going to do these things bloody well in 2019.

I know there has been a lot of talk about the condition Steven May arrived at the club and I am probably only repeating what has been said but I have a contact at the club who told me today the state May showed up in was nowhere near AFL standard. The club was staggered at the state he was in, he was overweight & unfit. The club had to literally halve his workload to the rest of the playing group because he's body couldn't cope with the program. Apprently the current situation is they are having to start from scratch and rebuild & condition his body before he can play again which could be 5 weeks away

Disturbing. Waiting the year for free agency is looking better and better in hindsight. Can say I wasn’t keen at the time, though we didn’t know how badly this year would start (and that Moore would come back and play so well for the pies making May less of a need for them).

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
