Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I actually think that Preuss is the more important pick up in terms of back up and game day options

I get that ..but May fills a void.. Preuss is a backup icing on the cake.

We would still play ok without Preuss... We're back to so-so down back without May.

Assumes Max can play the entire season plus finals. Much bigger hole without our key ruck.

Lets say that both are important and key acquisitions.

Preuss is so bloody important...   hes the only ruck we have besides Max and and a very,  very green Austin Bradtke.

Spoke to a very keen Nth Melb guy at lunch today who was saying the Pruess was a great pick up. Very tough, talented a little loose with his elbows but hard as nails. Very sad to see him go and thought he would do very good things for the Dees. Couldn't understand why he would go to Melb to be second fiddle though....

Having Hibberd, Jetta and May is going to be something special. There's compeditive backlines and then there's just mean, physical players who use their bodies incredibly well to beat their opposition. We now have 3x the latter.

Give these guys a look at finals where one on ones are crucial and it just gives you chills.

Imo there is also room for Frost which could result in Omac playing at Casey until he develops more of his game rather than in the seniors.

It's worth re-iterating that Steven May chose MFC over offers from Collingwood and Hawthorn who also made finals this year - really who would've thought that even 2 years ago?

And he cited the key reason was "the guy" Simon Goodwin, that means he preferred Goodwin over Clarkson and the reborn new age Buckley!

Wake me up, I must be dreaming!

May also said that Goody spoke to him about where they could improve/develop his game which no other team did. The others just spoke about where they want to get as a team.

Wise words from Goody which influenced Mays decision.

Great work for the MFC.

I remember how good I felt when I saw Big Carl run out in Demon Colours for the first time.

We finally had a guy to scare the pants off the opposition.

Ray Biffen did also but he created mayhem in the goal square whereas Big Carl was like a marauding Hannibal coming down from the Alps.

We are developing a take no prisoners team.

Yep he has like "Balls Grinter" some serious Caaaaarnnt

That is good to hear - new club, new teammates, new game plan; why wouldn't he blossom in 2019? Max will show him the way.

I’d like to see May up forward( where he played as a youngster)

I can picture him pole-axing a few backmen(eg Rance)

It seems to me we have more backline depth than forward, and he could be most useful in attack.

I'd like to see Charlie Spargo in the Ruck.

Equally pointless, but pizz funny.

Yeah, nah.

We targeted May, because we had a weakness in the backline that kind Freddy could see.  Mahoney acknowledged this in his SEN interview.

Our 2019 backline (when Lever's back) will be the best I've seen following the Dees (memory early 70s).

Let's give it a go, shall we.

A brief summary of the kind of character we're bringing into the club.

The AFL's only indigenous captain finds his voice

This is a excellent article about May’s journey. He seems like a quality human.

He is going to be huge for our team and the club as a whole. Steven May is the bloke who minds the huge forward that we haven’t had for so long. If he was at the club this year we wouldn’t have lost in Geelong and probably not against Sydney or Port either.

He makes us a hugely better side even taking into account the loss of Hogan.

I really believe that we are one of the best three teams in the competition going into next year along with Richmond and WCE. May adds that surety we have lacked. I can’t wait to see our backline when they are all fit. Him, Lever, Hibberd  and Jetta working together will be magic to watch. Some serious hard nuts!

I have just read this piece and it truly resonates with me on several levels. Although, the wisdom of Steven May’s recruitment will ultimately be determined by what he achieves on and off the field for the club in the future, his story puts paid to any debate about who wins in trading. If it’s all about what a club gains and adds to its community then we have added a wonderful asset to the Melbourne Football Club for the next five years.

Loved Sean, one of my all time faves. Looking at the clip I saw a bit of Hibbo. Goodwin would have absolutely loved him. With Harley Balic leaving 27 is free for May (or does he get 1 from Hogan?).

Of our current playing group, Frost is the one which most reminds me of Sean.  Brilliant athletisim, which he often uses to close in on an opponent and spoil the ball away with a late dive.

The thing where I recon Pruess will be happy to play second fiddle is that he wasn't even that at North last season.  I recon he's been told by Goodwin and Co that provided his form is up to it, there will be games where we will:

1. Play two rucks;

2. Rest Max and give him a whole crack; and

3.  Possibly see how he goes as a forward option if the Weid is either injured or out of form.

Like I say, any of is more that he was getting at North, where I'm guessing that Daw and perhaps others were in front of him for similar roles.  Plus he gets to learn from Max and Greg.

Regards the May be a forward thing, my take is that whilst he has been recruited to play primarily back and that's where he will most likely spend most game time, it certainly doesn't hurt to have some flexibility either in game or within a season to shuffle guys around if things are not going to plan.

Our defence is our weakest point. We were 9th for defence this year. We have recruited Lever and May in the last two trade periods. I think the club understands that we need better defensive than we get from Frost and OMac if we are going to be a strong side. May won't be going forward.

I assume you mean Blind Freddy...in any case it's not that obvious to some around here. We have a superstar backline. No need for May or Lever....

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
