Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 8

Superb win Dees! The collective defensive effort in all areas of the ground after midway through the second quarter, was just sublime. It set the foundation for us to play the attacking offensive game we like to play, therefore creating multiple scoring opportunities. The effort by the players, and Goody's coaching were both first rate. Now it's time to be the masters of our destiny (like the Saints are doing, currently sitting 5th on the ladder) and back it up with the same level of intensity against North Melb next week. Go Dees!

It was interesting hearing Roos talk about Jeremy Cameron's improvement in 2017 today. He said he'd started to lead up at the ball carrier and he is a much better player for it. I suspect Hogan will do the same. It's a bit of a mentality thing I think. He was doing it earlier in his career. That game against Richmond in the wet was a really good example of it.

I think this will come with a little more experience and a bit more of a clearer head. I hope Jesse has some good support around him.

It's great that we continue to show we can win without him, as I'm sure that takes some pressure off him. Particularly, in his time of need.

And no. Terrible idea. He is a forward and will work his way through this issue with the help of his coaches and team mates.

[censored]. This win shows what it takes. We'll still have our ups and downs this season though, but now we have a benchmark. And mixed feelings? Really? Maybe football's not for you then?

U dont understand,  the mixed feelings is how well we played tonight but how badly we played last week v a has been hawks side, but the game had the same elements that every one of our games have had, the first quarter and a half was very poor, only the crows bad kicking for goal is the reason we were 26 points down and not 40, great win non the less but it has to be back up next week or it means nothing.

Didn't see the whole thing, but hard to point out any negatives from a win like that and from what I saw, Tom and Frost had great games with Oscar supporting.

How about this.

Do it again next week! ; )

Stopped watching when we were 26 points down Steve!?

Four quarter effort that's all, we have the talent to beat anybody.

Petracca , Oliver Viney combo in the middle will destroy teams in the very near future.

Once Gawn comes back we will be extremely  hard to beat.

Just gotta rack up some wins in the meantime.

I am glad some posters haver acknowledged Neville Jetta. He is rarely beaten and is twrrific the wya he goes about his business.

Overall a terrific effort. Good coaching to put TMac up forward. Gave us a real strong body -> better contests. Jack W has to have room to move then he becomes super effective.

There was lot of Cyril tap ons during the game which do not show up in Stats columns. This can only be erffective if you have backup from other team mates. Well done all of you !!!

Just want to add that I picked this win last week in the changes thread.  I should do that every week...

Yes you did as well as a few others. I just could not see us doing it in Adelaide, More fool me! But I did put $20 Bucks on it in a last minute change of mind

A few Random thoughts

Killed in the ruck but quality clearancework should now give us plenty of food for thought regarding our setups in the midfield

T Mac was sensational as a forward and I really think he needs to play there more.

Oscar only made a two errors that I could see one costing a goal but I thought he played well.

Frosty is fast becoming my favourite player ( after Clarry Choo Choo) I loved his dash and breaking lines work of half Back

Clarry Choo Choo ........  WORDS FAIL ME what an unbelieveable player we have love his "Freak Goal of the year" and also loved his blend of kicking to position and deft handball

Pedo very handy

Viney best game this year, Jones similarly great

Weekend just got better at Bernie's , what a sensational shutdown game.

Hibbo WOW just fleet of foot across half back

Jordan L composed and steady when it counted

All PLAYERS did there bit and this is what will happen more often when we play 4 quarters Bring on the Roos NEXT WEEK!

Dunno about leave him there but he may well be becoming one of those swingmen we`ve lacked for more years than I can remember.

Agree with that HB. I really like the swingman thing. Makes us more unpredicable and makes TMac hard to match up.

Yeah we have rarely done it in decades Wadda, and never in the Roos era. There were many times in recent years where the match was screaming to pull a few moves like last nights to turn a game and it worked in spades.

Has anyone heard any reports on Truck?

He was hobbling badly at the end of the game and did seem to have cramping but also looked like his knee was a bit sore.

His knee was sore early so he did very well to get through the match and remain powerful through those contests. Think his eft knee has been a bit iffy since the Richmond game. Is it the same one he had reconstructed?

AF, "even Tom McDonald"??

Really, even after that great win?

He was superb when he went forward. I don't think he won a contest or didn't not turn it over before moving there. Hence the 'even'.

Hannan is difficult to place. He looks so lost at times, but when you watch the replays, he is very physical in the air and at ground level.

TMac played his hunior footy as a CHF - is my memory correct here? Looked a natural forward and should stay there.

Who could believe that of all people, OMac would play a blinder on a gorilla? A great game from him tonight, when I thought he would get monstered.

Petracca is so strong through the hips and legs, he is almost impossible to bring down. And then his skill and decision making!!!

Some selection and position headaches coming up for coaches and selectors.

(Beeep), I  am a happy old bugger this morning. The missus isn't safe!

I loved that they gave him a run in the middle and he did okay. We're demanding versatility. It's so very Bulldogs.

I think so Luther he has strapping tape on it.

Hopefully it's manageable and not going to sideline him.

Fingers crossed!

He's such a competitive beast, it's an absolute joy to watch. And even with the knee his break away pace when required was very good.

I think you are being pretty unfair to Gary Lyon. He never wanted the involvement after the '186' game. He responded - reluctantly-, to his dying mate Stynes' call. It would have been extraordinarily difficult to refuse. As for the results of that involvement, does anyone actually think that Lyon didn't try to do his best for the club and his mate? When things don't work out, everyone involved look like they are fools or incompetents.

I listen to the SEN breakfast show for about an hour most days and all I have heard Lyon claim about Melbourne, is that he has a personal interest in and keeps a closer eye on the Demons than he does with other clubs, (for example, he has mentioned that he drops by training). I have not heard anything from him that could be classified as a destructive comment about the team, he has largely stated what all Melbourne supporters are aware of, but most other fans would not know.

That is the other thing that needs to be borne in mind, he is not just talking to Demon fans.

Well, as you may have anticipated, I don't agree.

Gazza had his finger in the pie prior to 186 (albeit he didn't have an official role). He was good mates with Cuddles, CS, Jimmy and Todd Viney so it would have been naive to think that he wasn't a power broker of some description.

He knew (or he should have known) EXACTLY what he was doing when he got on Triple M and ripped into the club post 186 while he was calling the Dogs vs. Eagles game at Eithad. Being good mates with CS, he would have known that he was getting the a**e and used his platform to change the focus onto the coach. He was one of the key people to talk Jimmy into sacking Bails but keeping CS on (Jimmy said as much in his book).

He then proceeded (after assuring us that he wouldn't be playing favorites) to keep Schwab in exactly the same role prior to 186. This meant that three people continued to report to him from the football department, instead of the standard one, and that the only recognizable change was that Whiteboard Wednesday was given the old yeller treatment. He then proceeded to 'sack' his other mate Chris Connolly but give him a paid job as a spruiker for the Melbourne/Casey relationship. Shame there was nothing for Bails to fall back on at the club (he wasn't even allowed to wear a club tie or have the club backdrop behind him when he did his part of the presser).

He then proceeded to buddy up with CS and Don and find a coach who conveniently mirrored all of CS's complaints about Bails. One who had not been psychologically profiled and had been knocked back by a few other clubs.

I agree that Gazza isn't Dastardly Dick (I wonder who his Muttley would be? Purple?) out to hurt the club. In fact, I think a lot of the vitriol launched at certain people has been over the top. I do think however that when Gazza decides to shoot from the hip like he does, it would be more intellectually honest of him to take a step back and remember what it was like when he was in the hot seat. He then might take a step back before branding all and sundry as mentally brittle.

Indeed, his audience isn't solely Melbourne supporters but I think the rest of his audience are being mislead if they laud Gazza as the be all and end all authority on what is wrong with the club.

I don't like getting into these discussions but I think sometimes that the record does need to be set straight.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
