Not super inspiring changes but ANB is much better at playing the forward role JKH is attempting to do. Melksham best on for Casey and I prefer him over bugg anyway.

Not sure Kent has done enough level and although I wouldn't mind stretch in I'm not too sure who makes way for him. Three unforced changes seems too many regardless for team stability.

He just needs to get a fair run at it without any head knocks for awhile to get his confidence back. It must take a big mental toll on yourself with how careful the doctors are with concussion now days, which I fully support.

JKH out, probably never to return. I didn't think giving him a third game was necessarily poor, but he has been very poor. I don't think he sees himself as a forward, but he's a long way down the list of our midfielders IMO.

It'd be nice to bring in Kent and Brayshaw, but they're not fit/in form.

Yeah definitely. I think about the mental side of things for the players a lot these days. We get word from coaches and from a lot of our own sources about the state of mind of the youth in the team. If you look at the Cats and Hawks in their best years recently, they recruited skilled players, but I don't think any more skilled than our list. The buzzword used to be "culture." Then it was that leading teams thing the cats brought in. Then under Roosy he spoke openly and often about keeping the kids on track mood wise. He said some of our players were mentally damaged through our worst years. Some of the things these guys can do are absolutely remarkable, but we're only able to see them switch on and off intermittently. More than ever the game is played between the ears.

I'm really confident with where we sit now though. We have confident players, who are fit, run out games, and back their skill very often. Some of our defensive players still have hospital kicks, which will never be ironed out. But overall I'm seeing a team taking the game on in a way we haven't seen, well, probably since 2000. Goody's getting great results from a mentally iffy player like Watts. Aside from him we have Hogan who's early season moodiness can now be forgiven (IMO). And we have Braysh who has medical concerns. But I don't see guys dropping their heads. I see them enduring through a really tough period. 

I think it's fair to say our youth is the most exciting, but also the most problematic part. We need leaders. We're still short in that area. And while we can trade one in in Lewis, who's been great when on the park, we really need to grow them ourselves so they can choose their team's footballing identity in the way Scarlett, Chapman, Ablett, Corey, Harley, and Enright did. I really think we're on the way there. We're just in the embryonic stages. Our future captain is in place. I'm not as down as some others... I'm really looking forward to seeing who we unearth now that we can.

It is time to bite the bullet and give young King a chance at what he is paid to do - be a ruckman. Yeah, he will find it very tough but we simply cannot continue to allow opposition ruckmen uncontested possession around the ground.  Tracs in the guts, Jonesy to take a break from the midfield and use his strength and physicality down forward. Pedersen always competes so is a target at CHF.  Lewis/Tracs/Hunt/Ollie/Jack/Tyson/ANB to rotate.  Several players there can provide a chop out in the ruck. A few left field options but maybe worth a shot?

Season pivots on the effort of this game. Make no mistake, go to Adelaide with the same mentally weak mindset and it won't be pretty.

On paper we had (bar a couple ) one of our supposedly best lineups.

Failed miserably.

Goody has his work cut out. Cant see he'd want to go home to be humiliated.

Didn't know that, thanks DD.  With that in mind, Hannan goes out for maybe Kent or ANB?

Again, I don't understand the dropping of a player, then having him as a carry-over emergency.  ANB was dropped, but hasn't been given the opportunity to go back to Casey and work on the deficiencies that got him dropped in the first place.  Now the opportunity has arisen (presumably) with JKH and Hannan a big chance of being demoted, but one of the blokes that would be in the group to replace them (ANB), has had to sit out of footy for a week with no opportunity to work on what's needed.  And don't give me this "resting" rubbish.  If they are being rested, why not call their non-selection "managed" (seems to be the latest [censored] word for rest this season).  I called them out on doing the same with Stretch last weekend and had my concerns confirmed with him playing at Casey this week.

I know one thing though, it'd be bloody nice to try and keep the same 22 together for a run of 3 or 4 consecutive games.

It may be best for him to take some more time off to get his head right.

I know in the NHL Sidney Crosby had a few concussions and ended up being out for a whole year to get himself right.

He has a bright future, he just needs to get through this period and get his confidence back.

I liked hunt and hannan forward with jeffy they provide max pressure to the defence

I want kent and stretch in for the same reason but have hunt and stretch higher / wings

I would make the following changes:

ANB for JKH - JKH is miles off. ANB finds more ball, is overall more consistent and has the ability to occasionally hit the scoreboard

Kent for Hannan - don't mind Hannan but his disposal is a bit of a liability at times. Think Kent is an upgrade even though Hannan isn't too bad

Stretch for Bugg - better disposal, better pace, better decision making. Bugg is ok but Stretch offers a lot more

Harmes for Wagner - Wagner just looked underdone. I like the theory of Wagner but have yet to see him play a really good game. I think we slightly overrate him at the minute but there is potential there. Harmes offers intensity and can take a mark despite his wobbly kick.

Would be a much stronger side on paper than the one we fielded yesterday.

As an aside, I think our defence looks much stronger with all three of the Macs and Frost in the same team.
