Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Well it all depends on what we consider a walloping Wise. You might say 12 goals or more.  50 points or more is about what i would consider a jolly good flogging!

I reckon we won't get done by more than 5 goals.  Blind faith is my specialty.

Aside from the first quarter I think we didn't play too badly and it was a good contest. The Hawks played very well

More frustrating than anything but what can you do, unfortunately we haven't had the best of luck this year whether that be injuries or coming up against teams on song on the day or the game against Geelong where they played like rockstars pulling everything out of their ar*e

This is a strange season so you never know but we're starting to have to come from behind now which makes things difficult.

And then what happened? He played a nothing game and didn't threaten or make our attacks dangerous. To not kick a goal from 30m out summed it up.

Can't remember Tom Bugg having a shot at goal....

So frustrating being a Melbourne supporter, yet so predictable. Just looks like its going to be one of those years where things just dont fall our way. I know Goodwin has a lot of fans as a coach and I think he will be a good coach but his lack of experience is hurting us just as much as not having a ruckman.

Just reading the thread. I was at the game and I don't understand all the hate directed at Bugg. He won a lot of one-on-one contests and moved to good positions to receive the mark exiting the backline.

Anyone who disagrees watch the replay, you'll see his steadying influence.

I don't need to watch the replay i saw what i saw on TV and he was next to useless.

Will be out next week alongside JKH and Hannan.

we were outscored in all quarters except the third... simple mathematics as to why we lost.

As to teams being on song ... we must be selling the hymn sheets !!!

We were shown up today for our kicking. Hawks slowed the game down delivered pinpoint passes, played keepings off when we threatened to blow open the game. I could not believe the turnovers and kicks to open space where there was a Hawks defender. Talk about ambitions exceeding abilities. Jones did it 3 times in the first half kicking directly to the opposition. Bugg turned into play kicked into the corridor straight to the opposition and Bernie's switch which let Rioli in was beyond belief. There were others but too numerous to list. Decision making and poor execution kill us.

Their ability to take contested marks hurt us and our reliance on Gawn to take contested marks shows our lack of another marking key position player. When Gawn eventually gets back we will still need someone who can take a mark.

God I hate losing these close games

It's taken 10 years to get to this point, but being competitive is now no longer enough. We should be angry at any and every loss. Losing is now unacceptable for the club and its supporters. They had better fire up next week and pull of an upset win to pay us back for losing to the bottom of the ladder team at home today.

Continuously frustrated by our habit of hand-balling to players in limited time and space after we've already created some. Until this stops we will remain second rate easy beats.

Things I've learnt:

1) Our kicking into our F50 is a guessing game most of the time. There seems to be a lot of the "unknown" about our leading pattens & forward set up. Synergy just not quite there at the moment.

2) Definitely overused the handball today. Had plenty of opportunities to get ball-to-boot apossed to a stationery handball to a player in a far worse position.

3) Was very much supprised that the coaches stuck with JKH for another week... just not up to AFL standard which is a shame because he's a ripping kid. Will be dropped.

4) Based by the way he's played this year - Tommy Bugg has way too many tickets on himself. Play within yourself Tom! His intensity & all round desire for the contest this year has been way off compared to last year. Just doesnt look like it. Will be dropped.

5) Our side is just better with Dean Kent in it. The problem we have is that he's just not playing good enough two's footy to warrant senior selection. I do suspect tho that the coaching crew will bite the bullet & select him this week regardless of whatever he did today at VFL level.

6) Obvious one, but the loss of Maxy is becoming more telling each week now. We missed him like crazy today... & this sentiment will remain until he's back up & firing late in the year. HUGE loss.

7) We are only a 3QT team at the moment & its proved costly for the 5th time.

Just don't right us off yet... long season to play out. We'll still be there abouts for the 8 come the final rounds.

That's because he chose to drill one of his worm burning deadly left foot passes over someone's head who had an opponent velcroed to his jumper instead of shooting coming into an open goal on the run. Jumbo if you have't learned already we always take the least simple and instinctive option so as to increase the likelihood of improving our turnover and clanger stats.  And even when simple options present, we often prefer to just completely [censored] things up for fun! Especially when we are forward of center!

No, he attempted to pass the ball to Hannan, I think, in the goal square, it was punched through for a point. I was fuming at the game, he should've gone back and had a shot from that distance.

I'm not big on bagging players, but I thought Salem was shocking today, for the first time I regretted giving away Kelly for Salem and Tyson. ?

And JKH? I don't know where to even start.

This loss has really left me flat.

Wat irks me is that we bring in players like Wagner, Bugg, JKH etc after coming back from injury with no real solid consistent form for Casey, but guys like Steetch who have the runs in the board and Trengove who gets 30 every week dont get picked.

I'll post something less emotional later, but you look at our two captains and Hawthorn's captain. Viney was a star and kept us in it in a putrid first half. Terrific to have him back in form. Roughead dobbed critical goals at the other end and then there was Jones.

Jones turned it over multiple times, cost us two goals and then missed a critical gettable shot on goal when the game was on the line in the fourth.

Many of us have said this before, but he really isn't a leader and he along with a few of our younger guys (JKH, Salem, Petracca and Wagner) made costly errors at critical time.

I get the emotion AF.  And congrats too by the way.

Viney was just an absolute Trojan today. So many times he was the guy putting his head down to wrench the ball out of hands, and forging through the congestion to get it out and free to a teammate. Just loved his game, so many times, from high up in the stand.

As for Jones - to me it was a story of 2 parts. The first qtr he had at least 3 very frustrating turnovers by foot, direct to opponents. Geez it was infuriating when we were on a burst and suddenly Jones managed to cough it up.

But then he got slowly back into the game.

And from then on, if you have a look at anyone under pressure when Jones is in the vicinity, who do they look to when they need to dish it off?  Jones. They always go back or sideways to Jones, whether he's in the clear or under pressure, because Jones is thier get-out clause. He is their hero. It happened several times today. They look to Jones because he above all will do something to get them out of the poo, quickly and usually effectively.  Jones willingly takes on the pressure situations that our other players can't deal with

And that's why I think they vote him as one of their leaders.

That's our game plan... when it comes off it looks good... sometimes even great but when it doesn't

In his defence he is taught to look for the spare player.. there was one... Rioli closed down the space and in spoiling pushed over the receiver. Moreover Lewis could not impact the play.

Their ability to take marks allowed them to slow down the game and stop us from getting the ball into space.

It also seemed to me that we got a few unlucky bounces.

Hell I don' think this season is going to be much fun

It's very difficult to try and be positive after again snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. I'd reckon that with a true ruckman, either Big Maxy or Jake Spencer,  we would more than likely have won.

Yes, JKH isn't up to it but now the FD doesn't have to wonder. Goody placed the ball fairly and squarely in his court and he fluffed it. Now it's time for a line to go through his name. He cannot blame lack of opportunity. It's a slow process giving opportunities to fringe players but it's really the only way to assess their value.

Somebody brought up the issue of small forwards. My view is that It's time for Nate Jones to fill a FP alongside Jesse with Jeffy in the other pocket. His strength and attack on the footy would place a lot of pressure on opposition defenders and help keep the ball inside our forward 50.

Having said all that, it's time for Petracca to take up Jonesy's job in the middle. He looked very good in there today. Rotating Ollie, Tracs, Jack, Don, Lewy and even Jayden Hunt through the middle would add to our clearances. Salem is not a mid yet though and is better suited to a HBF.

I am not unhappy with our progress. When we take into account our first season coach, young players and run of injuries we are doing OK. With a little bit of luck we could be 6 & 1 or at least 5 & 2.  I would love to see how we look playing 4 quarters of our best footy though.

Finally, we are in desperate need of a quality FB. We will never be truly competitive whilst we need to rely on Tom and Oscar.

Just got home after getting most of the post match post mortem done at a bar in the G. The thing I still don't get, is why we can play 2 halves of football that are so radically different from each other. What happened at halftime to make us hit targets, run harder and find space? If it was simply Jayden hunt going forward, why didn't that move happen earlier?

I'm just a fan, a ridiculously over invested fan, and I don't get it. Can someone explain?

Also, like the rest of you, I'm so utterly sick of losing. Looking at the ladder tonight is utterly depressing. Only consolation is that Essendon lost.

Can't stand the hawks supporters. Smug.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
